The Determinants of Change in Residential Size of Households in the Seoul Metropolitan Area: According to the Patterns of Residential Mobility (수도권 거주가구의 주거면적 변화 결정요인: 수도권 내 주거이동 방향에 따라서)

  • This study examined the determinants of change in residential size according to the patterns of residential mobility in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. Particularly, this study examined the upward and downward in residential size, which is emerging as an important factor in the era of increasing non-face-to-face environment. For the empirical analysis, I used 「2018 Korea Housing Survey」 and employed binary logistic regression model. The empirical analysis shows the change of residential size is statistically significant depending on the direction of geographic. In addition, there are differences in the determinants of change in residential size. When people move within Seoul, housing factors, accessibility, age of residents, and the number of household members can be the determinants. When people move from Seoul to Gyeonggi or Incheon, housing factors, safety, gender, and the number of household members work as determinants. On the other hand, when moving from Gyeonggi or Incheon to Seoul, whether it is studio or not, housing type, accessibility, the number of household members, and the disability of homeownership are the determinants. When moving within Gyeonggi or Incheon, housing factors, Accessibility to green areas, safety, age of resident, income, and the number of household members, are the determinants.

A study on Spatial Distribution Pattern of Urbanized Area using GIS Analysis: Focused on Urban Growth of Seoul Metropolitan Area (GIS분석기법을 이용한 도시화 지역의 공간적 분포패턴에 관한 연구: 수도권의 도시성장을 중심으로)

  • Nowadays, urbanized area expands its boundary, and distribution of urbanized area is gradually transformed into more complicated pattern. In Korea, SMA(Seoul Metropolitan Area) has outstanding urbanized area since 1960. But it is ambiguous whether urban distribution is clustered or dispersed. That is to say, it is difficult to understand spatial distribution pattern of urbanized area, although urbanized area has grown gradually. This study aims to show the way in which expansions of urbanized area impact on spatial distribution pattern of urbanized area. We use GIS analysis based on raster dataset, quadrat analysis, and nearest neighbor analysis to know distribution pattern of urbanized area in time-series urban growth. Experiments show that cohesion of SMA's urbanized area had increased to the early 1980s, but has decreased from the middle 1980s. Also, urban growth of SMA has been characterized not by spillover growth but by leapfrogging growth and road-influenced growth since the middle 1980s.

A Analytical Study on the Change of Regional Employment Rate in the Service Industry (서비스산업에서의 지역별 고용률의 변화에 대한 분석 연구)

  • For recent years, there have been considerable changes in the employment rate of the service industry and its relative ratio. These changes vary depending on the region whether it is Seoul metropolitan region or not. According to main results of this article, the average of employment rate in the service industry has been highest in the Seoul metropolitan region. And the changes by period of the employment-rate in the service industry have increased continuously for all the time in the Seoul metropolitan region whereas they have varied in other regions. Also the relative ratio of employment rate in the service industry to total employment rate has been more higher in Seoul metropolitan region and Gangwon region than other regions, and also the changes by period of the relative ratio have more increased in these two regions than other regions. Finally, comparing metropolitan city regions with do regions for the average of employment rate in the service industry or the relative ratio of it, they have more higher in metropolitan city regions than do regions, whereas the changes by period of them have varied with each other regions.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating role of trust and relational commitment on capital area and non capital area coffee shop. In order to meet its purpose, we surveyed 264 customers who visited coffee shop in capital area and non capital area. The results are as follows: First, trust was played a mediator role between a brand image and relational commitment. Second, Relational commitment was played a mediating role between trust and brand loyalty. Third, Trust and relational commitment was played a mediator role between brand image and brand loyalty.

A Study on the Characteristics of the Spatial Distribution of the 4th Industry (4차 산업의 공간적 분포특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in the fourth industrial revolution, expected to have a significant impact on society. However, there are only a few studies on spatial distribution and location of the fourth industry. This study tried to classify the spatial distribution of the fourth industry by using LQ, a non-geographical method, and Getis-Ord's Gi*, a geographical method. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, there are the specialized areas of the fourth industry in the non-Seoul metropolitan area as well as the Seoul metropolitan area. Second, industrial clusters and neighborhood areas of the fourth industry were located mostly in the Seoul metropolitan area. Third, industrial clusters were concentrated on the southern part of Gyeonggi Province and Seoul, and there are no industrial clusters in the northern part of the Seoul metropolitan area and the nature conservation area. This paper shows that the cluster area of the fourth industry is concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area. Therefore, policies for the 4th industry are needed to solve this unbalanced spatial distribution of the fourth industry.

  • The external diseconomy has been accelerated by the megaspatial structure of metropolis such as Seoul Capital Region(below SCR), Korea in which the more than 10 million populations inhabit. The main course for It could be elaborated by the overconcentration of the urban and regional function of various kinds. The study is performed to analyze quantitatively the status quo of the region as described above and proceed into forecasting the future population trend, the land use at location for the increment of regional population and to set the location of new towns in Seoul Capital Region System projected by the methods in computer algorithm of descriptive models such as the simple and multiple regress ion analysis models, the gravity model and the facility location on a plane model analysis. The goal and object ive of the metropolitan planning are to decentralize the regional growth management to the optimum degree, which will not hinder the economic growth of the region, but the result of the study is that we can not discourage the functional concentration of Seoul Capital Region and, we have to provide the region with the appropriate new towns.

  • An average of 20 million individual transit unit activities per day on the Seoul-Gyeonggi-Incheon public transportation network are provided as transportation card analysis data by the metropolitan district (99.02% by 2014 standard, Humanlive, 2015.4). The metropolitan transportation card data can be employed in a comprehensive analysis of public transportation users' current transit patterns and by means of this, an effective use plan can be explored. In enhancing the existing information on the bus and rail integrated network of the metropolis with public transportation card data, the constraints in the existing methodology of metropolitan transit analysis, which functions on a zone unit origin and destination basis, can be overcome. Framework for metropolitan public transportation card data based integrated public transportation analysis, which consists of bus and rail integrated transport modes, is constructed, and through this, a single passenger's transit behavior transit volume can be approximated. This research proposes that in the use of metropolitan public transportation card data, integrated public transportation usage, as a part of individual passenger spatial movements, can be analyzed. Furthermore, metropolitan public transportation card usage data can provide insights into understanding not only movements of populations taking on transit activities, but also, characteristics of metropolitan local space.

A Regulationist Interpretation on the Changes of the Regional Inequality between Seoul Metropolitan Area(SMA) and Non-SMA after 1981 (1980년대 이후 수도권/비수도권 지역격차 변화의 조절이론적 해석)

  • This paper aims to interpret the changes of the regional inequality between Seoul Metropolitan Area(SMA) and Non-SMA after 1981 on the regulationist approaches that examine institution changes and power dynamics that motivate regional disparities in South Korea. Despite the restrict laws and aims that alms to reduce the concentration into SMA before 1988, the acts were not executed effectively due to the structural selectivity of the bureaucratic authoritarian state of those years. Thus, the regional concentration phenomena of SMA was intensified in the 1980s. However, the democratization in 1987 invoked Non-SMA regions to claim their regional development and it also forced the state to mediate the conflicting interests between the regional agents protesting the SMA concentration and the Capital agents supporting the SMA deregulation. From the early 1990s. the state launched a series of national strategies and policies to diminish regional inequality. They included execution of the existing acts mitigating SMA concentration and construction of industrial complexes in the underdeveloped areas of Non-SMA. Thus, the equalizing polities led the reduction of the concentration of SMA from 1989 to 1997. However, the financial crisis of Korea in 1997 intensified the claims of the Capital agents to deregulate the SMA control. The circumstance also forced the state towards the Capital side that request the deregulation of SMA control. As the result, the regional disparity between SMA and Non-SMA has been enlarged again since 1998.
