  • In this study, we attempted to characterize the physical meaning of the design parameters used for automobile passive dampers by considering the slit, disc, and hole, which influence the pressure characteristics. We also analyzed the change in the pressure characteristics when mixing various slits and discs. Finally, we used a computer simulation to implement lag according to nitrogen gas and analyzed the dependence of frequency on the nitrogen gas pressure.

  • Automotive industry is a major business area in this country and it becomes more and more important. In order to maintain high quality of vehicles, every parts should be inspected. Among them the inspection job of the knuckle bracket holes of the outer tube of shock-absorber has been done manually until now. So, it takes long time and every product can not be inspected. An automatized inspection system was proposed utilizing machine vision technology, which was composed of a slit beam laser, CCD camera, image processing computer, special jig and illuminating back lights. An algorithm which could process images of the laser and bracket holes, then gave the position, radius, roundness of the holes, was developed. This system was applied for the good and no good products and the performance was confirmed.

  • The evaluation of the ride quality had been performed by the subjective method before ISO2631(International Organization for Stadard 2631) and BS6841(British Standard 6841) was precented, but many research programs have been performed by the objective method after that. On this study, the ride quality was evaluated related with the objective method which considered the vibration which the human body feels on the driver's seat while driving on the road. In particular, we made the shock absorber nonlinear model and also selected the suitable shock absorber in the part of the vibration which the human body feels into the simulation. The shock absorber of suspension was dealt with 3 cases respectively with the front wheel and rear wheel. The vibration of the car driving on the road can be transferred to the wheel, the suspension, the vehicle body, the seat and the human body. The signal which was gained from the seat(hip) and the floor(foot) of the human body was changed to the vibration signal which the human body felt through using the frequency weighting function. And then the performance of the shock absorber was calculated through the statistic processing.

  • In this paper, an optimum design technology is developed to find an optimal position of the shock absorber using ADAMS and VisualDOC. A vehicle with a torsion-beam rear suspension is modeled by using ADAMS. Design variables for the optimal positioning of the shock absorber are defined considering the hard points of the chassis structure and design positioning are specified through the sensitivity analysis using a bump-crossing simulation. The objective function is defined as the joint reaction forces of the shock absorber connecting joints of the chassis structure. Sequential Quadratic Programming and Genetic Algorithms are used for this study. To validate the optimized design variables, pothole simulations are performed. GA showed better results than SQP algorithms for this design purpose.
