  • This study attempted to investigate the perception of safety of regular polish and gel polish and degree of nail damage. For this, a questionnaire survey and an experiment were performed against women in their 20-50s, and the results found the followings: In terms of effectiveness, safety and degree of nail damage, gel polish was higher than regular polish. In addition, moisture/sebum levels and trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) decreased after the experiment. Specifically, such reduction was greater in gel polish. When the nail surface was observed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) after polish removal, gel polish revealed severe nail damage. The above results confirm that gel polish is greater than regular polish in terms of influence on the degree of nail damage. Therefore, it is anticipated that the study results would be available as basic data in keeping nails healthy and beautiful.

  • This paper proposes a nail detection algorithm using OpenPose and implements virtual nail art using it. Based on the key points detected by OpenPose, the finger area is detected using skin color characteristics for each finger. The nail region is detected from the edge image of the detected finger region. Then, a virtual nail art is implemented by synthesizing nail tips in the nail area. In a somewhat controlled shooting environment, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm detects nail areas well and implements virtual nail art well.

  • The study was conducted to investigate the improvement nail health in middle-aged women aged 40~60 years who intake soybean koji by incubating Aspergillus oryzae(황국균), and utilized non-fermented soybeans as a control group and soybean koji as an experiment group for eight weeks. After clinical trials, the lifting and cracking conditions of the nails in the experiment group were improved, The moisture content increased 5.1 times compared to the control group, The water loss was 1.4 times less the reduction to the control group. and nail thickness increased by 1.9 times compared to controls. Wrinkles on the surface improved by about 2.4 times compared to the control group. In conclusion, consumption of this soybean koji of A. oryzae's has been shown to have an impact on improving nail is expected to be used Therefore, I propose this soybean koji of A. oryzae's as an inner beauty for improving nail is in middle-aged women aged 40~60 years.

  • From 1988 to 1997, we experienced 11 cases of glomus tumor in fingers(10 cases) and toe(1 case). All patients were female, and showed typical pain, tenderness, and cold sensitivity of the lesions. The locations were subungal in nine cases and in pulp from distal phalangeal bone in two cases. Three patients had histories of one or two failed previous operations, and two patients had another glomus tumor in their bodies. All except one had satisfactory results subjectively and without complications. One patient was operated by the excision of the tumor including germinal matrix and surrounding tissues of nail bed, and had a nail deformity in follow-up. The glomus tumor is not malignant to recur or metastasize in the case of complete excision. However, the surgeon should be alert not to injure or repair the nail bed meticulously after the excision of the tumor to prevent a late deformity of nail.

  • Selenium species in hair and nails were extracted, separated and analyzed with HPLC-ICP/MS. The result showed that Se species was mostly SeCys and the information related to the change of selenium concentration in a body could be obtained. The Se fortification study was performed for 5 participants during 12 months. The average of Se concentration was 858.6 ± 201.2 ng g-1, which did not change much during the research period nor the difference between the individuals was striking. In the case of hair, the average concentration was 205.3 ng g-1 which was lower than nails. Se supplement of 22 ㎍ day-1 was taken for 3 months by the volunteers and the difference between before and after (3 months period for each) the taking of supplement was not striking. However, when the dose was increased to 300 ㎍ day-1 for 2 months, the concentration was increased noticeably to 1,230 ng g-1. It can be thought that the analysis of finger nail for Se can provide valuable information for the long period (several months) of exposure or intake of Se for a human body.
