An algorithm to locate and estimate severity of damage in jacket-type offshore structures for which modal responses are availabit' for very few vibrational modes is presented. First, a theory of damage locaization and severity estimation(which yields information on the location and severity of damage directly from changes in mode shapes) is formulated. Next, the feasibility the damage detection algorithm is demonstrated by using a numerical example of an offshore jacket platform for which only three vibration modes are measured. Form the material presented here, two major results are observed. First, all damage locations in the offshore jacket platform are correctly predicted. Next, predicted damage is relatively correctly estimated.

This study proposed a damage location estimation method for automated image-based port infrastructure inspection. Memory efficiency was improved by calculating the homography matrix using feature detection technology and outlier removal technology, without going through the 3D modeling process and storing only damage information. To develop an algorithm specialized for port infrastructure, the algorithm was optimized through ground-truth coordinate pairs created using images of port infrastructure. The location errors obtained by applying this to the sample and concrete wall were (X: 6.5cm, Y: 1.3cm) and (X: 12.7cm, Y: 6.4cm), respectively. In addition, by applying the algorithm to the concrete wall and displaying it in the form of an exterior damage map, the possibility of field application was demonstrated.

In this paper, a two-phase structural health monitoring system using acceleration response signatures are presented to firstly alarm the change in structural condition and to secondly detect the changed location for full-scale concrete girder bridges. Firstly, Mihocheon Bridge which is a two-span continuous concrete girder bridge is selected as the target structure. The dynamic response features of Mihocheon Bridge are extracted by forced vibration test using bowling ball. Secondly, the damage alarming occurrence and the damage localization techniques are selected to design two-phase structural health monitoring system for Mihocheon Bridge. As the damage alarming techniques, auto-regressive model using time-domain signatures, correlation coefficient of frequency response function and frequency response ratio assurance criterion are selected. As the damage localization technique, modal strain energy-based damage index method is selected. Finally, the feasibility of two-phase structural health monitoring systems is evaluated from static loading tests using a dump truck.

This study propose the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme for steel girder bolt-connection member by using wireless acceleration sensor node. In order to achieve the objective, the following approaches are implemented. Firstly, wireless acceleration sensor node is described on the design of hardware components and embedded operation software. Secondly, the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme of the steel girder bolt-connection member is described. The damage monitoring scheme performed global damage occurrence alarming and damage localization estimation by the acceleration response feature analysis. The global damage alarming is applied to the correlation coefficient of power spectral density. The damage localization estimation is applied to the frequency-based damage detection technique and the mode-shape-based damage detection technique. Finally, the performance of the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme is evaluated for detecting the bolt-connection member damage on a lab-scale steel girder.

A damage estimation method of wind turbine tower using natural frequency and mode shape is presented for effective condition monitoring. Dynamic analysis for a wind turbine was carried out to obtain the response of tower from which modal properties were identified. A neural network was learned based on training patterns generated by the changes of natural frequency and mode shape due to various damages. The changes of modal property were calculated using a program for modal parameter estimation. Damage locations and severities could be successfully estimated for 10 damage cases including multi-damage cases using the trained neural network. The damage severities for very small damages generally tends to be slightly under-estimated however, the identified damage locations agreed reasonably well with the accurate locations. Enhancement of the estimation result for very small damage and verification of the proposed method through experiment will be carried out by further study.
A practical methodology to detect and localm da~nagc in rcinforced concrete structures by
utilizing modal response parameters of as built and tiamaged states is presented. First, a damage
detection algorithm which yields information on the, location of damage directly from changes in
mode shapes of structures is outlined. Next, the algorithm is implemented to detec and localize
damage in a real, 1 1/3 scale, reinforced concrete structure. A set of pre-damage and post damage modal parameters are used for I he damage detection exercise. The results of the damage prediction show that the proposed algorithm can correctly locate the damage inflicted in the test structure.
The objective of this research is to develop the impact monitoring techniques providing impact identification and damage diagnostics of smart composite laminates susceptible to impacts. This can be implemented simultaneously by using the acoustic waves by the impact loads and the acoustic emission waves from damage. In the previous research, we have discussed the impact location detection process in which impact generated acoustic waves are detected by PZT using the improved neural network paradigm. This paper describes the implementation of time-frequency analysis such as the Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) and the Wavelet Transform (WT) on the determination of the occurrence and the estimation of damage.

For a steel structure with long service period, structural performance can be changed or decreased by corrosion damage occurred under severe corrosion environment condition. In this study, to examine compressive strength and behavior of circular steel member depending on corrosion damage, compressive loading tests were conducted using circular steel member with artificial corrosion damage which was applied by mechanical process and hand drill. From test results, local corrosion area and pattern is related to their structural performance. Their lcoal bucklings were occurred near artificially sectional damaged part. Reduction in compressive strength of circular steel member was also suggested according to their corroded part and damage.
