A Study on Parameters Measured during Small Punch Creep Testing (소형펀치 크리프 시험중 측정하는 변수에 대한 연구)

  • An effect is made in this study to deepen understanding of small punch(SP) creep testing which has been a round for about 10 years as a substitute for the conventional uniaxial creep testing. Even though considerable numbers of SP creep test program have been performed, most of the tests were aimed at measuring creep rupture lives only. Very flew studies showed interest on the meaning of what we were really measuring during the SP creep tests. In this paper meanings of the parameters measured during the SP creep testing, such as punch load and punch displacement rate are investigated using finite element analysis. It was shown that the measured parameters must represent the stress and strain rates of the material at the annular region located at about 0.65 mm from the center of the SP specimen. The material in this location would go through constant maximum stress and strain rate during the testing. Experimental verification is also discussed.

Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Zirconia/Ni Sintering Materials at High Temperature (고온환경하에서 지르코니아/니켈 소결재의 기계적 특성평가)

  • 본 논문에서는 1673K에서 소결한 PSZ/Ni 복합재에 대한 종 탄성계수, 파괴강도, 파괴에너지 등의 기계적 특성을 평가하기 위해, 개량형 소형펀치시험을 행한 결과에 대해 논의한다. 또한 파면관찰과 AE법을 통해 이들 재료의 고온환경에서의 미시파괴과정도 조사하였다. 시험온도는 293K, 1073K, 1273K, 1473K의 4종류로 하였으며, PSZ/Ni 복합재료의 체적 조성비도 80/20, 60/40, 40/60, 20/80의 4종류이다. 이들 실험결과로부터, 1073K이상의 고온에서 Ni 함량이 60%인 PSZ/Ni 복합재가 파괴강도 및 파괴에너지가 가장 우수한 것을 알았다. 파면관찰에 의하면 이 재료의 조성비에서 파고거동이 취성으로부터 연성으로 천이하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Evaluation on Hydrogen Embrittlement of 5 Types of High Strength Dual Phase Steels by Small Punch Test (소형펀치시험에 의한 5종의 고강도 DP강 수소취성 평가)

  • The hydrogen embrittlement degree of 5 type high strength DP steel charged with hydrogen by electrochemical method was evaluated by small punch test(SP test). After SP test, SP absorbed energy was remarkably decreased from 363 kgf-mm to 209 kgf-mm with increasing hydrogen charging time from 5hr to 50hr at DP5 specimen under the $200mA/cm^2$ current density condition. It was investigated that the decrease of hydrogen charging amount and SP absorbed energy according to the increase of current density and hydrogen charging time had a linear relationship. And it also investigated that the change of bulb height appeared by the SP test was decreased from 1.79mm to 1.59mm with the hydrogen charging conditions. It was supposed that it could be used as indicator of the evaluation of hydrogen embrittlement because of the similar trend of the formal results of SP absorbed energy. From the SEM observation of fracture area by crack in bulb, the morphology of fracture surface according to increasement of the hydrogen charging amount was varied with the cleavage mode.

A Study on Evaluation of High Temperature Creep Properties of 9Cr1MoVNb Steel by Small Punch-Creep test (소형펀치-크리프 시험에 의한 9Cr1MoVNb강의 고온 크리프 특성 평가 연구)

  • This paper describes the high temperature creep characteristics for virgin material of 9Cr1MoVNb steel using small punch creep(SP-Creep) test technique which is developing recently. In addition, the several results of SP-Creep test are compared with that of 2.25Cr- 1Mo steel which is widely used as boiler materials and that of conventional uniaxial creep test. The obtained SP-Creep curves show the creep behaviors of three regimes like that obtained from conventional uniaxial creep test, and SP-Creep properties are definitely depended on applied load and test temperature. The correlation of SP-Creep rate and creep rupture life with applied load has been determined like the correlation between creep rate/rupture life and stress in uniaxial creep test, and also is satisfied with Power law. The creep rupture times of newly 9Cr1MoVNb steel are higher than those of 2.25Cr1Mo steel at the same creep temperature and applied loading condition, and the decrease extent of creep rupture life with loads is very lower compared with 2.25Cr1Mo steel.

  • 복합조직강의 미세조직제어를 통한 자동차용 고강도 강판재의 개발이 주요 연구과제로 있다. 하지만 고강도화에 따라 수소에 의한 지연파괴의 문제점이 있어, 이를 규명하고 해결하기 위한 많은 연구가 함께 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 연구, 개발되고 있는 복합조직강 중 DP강과 TRIP강의 수소취성에 미치는 미세조직의 영향을 분석하고, 수소주입조건에 따른 수소취성 및 지연파괴 거동에 대하여 조사하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 음극전기분해법을 이용, 주입수소량을 달리하여 주입수소가 복합조직강의 지연파괴에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. Hydrogen determinator를 통해 시편 내 수소량을 측정하였고, 소형펀치시험에 의한 기계적물성 변화를 조사하였다. 또한 파단부위의 넓이와 깊이를 비교측정하였고, 파단면을 SEM으로 관찰하여 수소지연파괴 거동을 평가하고자 하였다.

  • It has been well recognized that a long term service at elevated temperature of $350^{\circ}C{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ induces embrittlement damage due to carbide precipitation and/or P, Sb and Sn segregation at grain boundaries and thereby deteriorates the grain boundary strength of heat resisting components in the energy-related plants. Therefore, it is very important to assess quantitatively the extent of embrittlement damage of heat resisting components to secure the reliable and efficient service condition and to prevent brittle failure in service. However, because fracture tests are limited in size and number of specimen obtained from the structural components, nondestructive test method is required. In this study, the optimum electrochemical parameters are investigated and discussed to evaluate nondestructive embrittlement damage for aged 2.25Cr-1Mo steels by means of electrochemical polarization test method (ECPTM) in proper corrosive environment. In addition, the electrochemical test results are compared with embrittlement degree evaluated by semi-nondestructive SP test.

  • This research was undertaken to clarify effects of thermal aging on electrochemical and mechanical properties of superaustenitic stainless steel. The steel was artificially aged at $300{\sim}650^{\circ}C$ for $240{\sim}10,000hrs$. and investigated at $-196{\sim}650^{\circ}C$ using small punch(SP) test. Also, the change in electrochemical properties caused by effects of thermal aging was investigated using electrochemical anodic polarization test in a KOH electrolyte. Carbides and ${\eta}-phase(Fe_2Mo)$ precipitated in the grain bounderies seem to deteriorate the mechanical properties by decreasing cohesive strength in the grain bounderies and promote the current density observed in electrochemical polarization curves. The electrochemical and mechanical properties of superaustenitic stainless steel was drastically decreased in the specimen aged at $650^{\circ}C$.

Empirical Relationship Between SP-curves and Tensile Properties in Mn-Mo-Ni Low Alloy Steels (Mn-Mo-Ni 저합금강의 SP-곡선과 인장물성과의 실험적 관계)

  • An empirical relationship between parameters from SP curves and tensile properties has been systematically investigated by experimental tests and FEM simulations. A series of SP and tensile tests were performed. SP tests were also simulated by FE analysis with various tensile properties. It was found that the yield loads(Py) and the maximum loads( $P_{MAX}$) in SP curves were linearly related with the yield strength($\sigma$$_{o}$) and the tensile strength($\sigma$$_{UTS}$), respectively. The yield loads defined from the intersection point of two lines tangent to the elastic bending region and plastic bending region showed better relation to the yield strength than those from offset line. The maximum loads in SP curves showing plastic instability region was linearly related with the tensile strengths. The slope of SP curves in simulation results had a close correlation with the hardening coefficient and hardening strength as well.l.l.l.

  • In this study, a small punch creep(SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen(10${\times}$10${\times}$0.5mm) is described to develop the new creep test method for high temperature structural materials. The SP-Creep test is applied to 2.25Cr-lMo(STBA24) steel which is widely used as boiler tube material. The test temperatures applied for the creep deformation of miniaturized specimens are between 550∼600$^{\circ}C$. The SP-Creep curves depend definitely on applied load and creep temperature, and show the three stages of creep behavior like in conventional uniaxial tensile creep curves. The load exponent of miniaturized specimen decreases with increasing test temperature, and its behavior is similar to stress exponent behavior of uniaxial creep test. The creep activation energy obtained from the relationship between SP-Creep rate and test temperature decreases as the applied load increases. A predicting equation or SP-Creep rate for 2.25Cr-lMo steel is suggested. and a good agreement between experimental and calculated data has been found.
