A Study on Fault Tolerance System for Flight Control Computer and Memory of Small Drones (소형 드론용 비행 제어기 및 메모리를 위한 고장 감내 시스템 연구)

  • The market for small unmanned aerial vehicles (SUAVs) is growing rapidly as technology advances and makes it possible to use them in various fields. However, due to the rapid increase in small drones, breakdowns, collisions and falls are also increasing year by year, and technologies for reducing accident and securing safety are being actively researched. In particular, the application of a fault tolerance system to cope with unexpected failures during flight is essential. According to data released by the US Department of Defense, accidents caused by errors in flight control computers account for about 28% of all accidents. This paper describes the proposal of flight control computer system's dual structure design to tolerate flight control system failure.

  • Recently, UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle) has evolved into various figure and become miniaturized. On using existing design method, it is hard to make modelling and standardizing design of flight control system of the figure including cylinder like pipe. These problems are caused by uncorrect express of nonlinearity in controller design. Therefore, it is developed through step of correct modelling and simulation on real time sing high efficiency computer in aircraft development of various figure. This is reducing period and expense of aircraft development. For the shake of solving these problems, in-design method has been devised by H.M. Wang. In this paper, an object of control is cylindrical UAV instead of the general figure of aircraft. It was analyzed flight condition, specification about level flight of the UAV and was presented algorithm to find control value.

A UAV Flight Control Algorithm for Improving Flight Safety (무인항공기 비행제어컴퓨터 알고리즘 개발을 통한 비행안전성 향상)

  • A UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle) requires higher reliability for external effects such as electromagnetic interference because a UAV is operated by pre-designed programs that are not under human control. The design of a small UAV with a complete resistance against the external effects, however, is difficult because of its weight and size limitation. In this circumstance, a conventional small UAV dropped to the ground when an external effect caused the rebooting of the flight-control computer(FCC); therefore, this paper presents a novel algorithm for the improvement of the flight safety of a small UAV. The proposed algorithm consists of three steps. The first step comprises the calibration of the navigation equipment and validation of the calibrated data. The second step is the storage of the calibration data from the UAV take-off. The third step is the restoration of the calibration data when the UAV is in flight and FCC has been rebooted. The experiment results show that the flight-control system can be safely operated upon the rebooting of the FCC.

  • This paper presents the pose estimation of a small UAV utilizing visual information from low cost cameras installed indoor. To overcome the limitation of the outside flight experiment, the indoor flight test environment based on multi-camera systems is proposed. Computer vision algorithms for the proposed system include camera calibration, color marker detection, and pose estimation. The well-known extended Kalman filter is used to obtain an accurate position and pose estimation for the small UAV. This paper finishes with several experiment results illustrating the performance and properties of the proposed vision-based indoor flight test environment.

  • 유/무인기가 통합되어 운용되는 환경을 고려한 시뮬레이션 시스템 설계 방안을 제시하였다. 기존의 관제 공역 내의 유인기를 대상으로 하는 항공 교통 시뮬레이션 시스템의 기능과 무인기 시스템의 기본적인 기능을 고려하였으며, 이를 기반으로 유/무인기 복합 운용의 새로운 개념을 적용하여 모의할 수 있는 시뮬레이션 환경을 구성하였다. 모의 환경의 확장성을 고려하여, 무인기는 관제 공역에 진입하여 유인기와 복합 운용되는 무인항공기 시스템과 비관제 영역에서 운용되는 소형 무인비행장치로 구분하여 구성하였다. 시뮬레이션 시스템을 구현하기 위한 운용 개념에 대해 서술하였으며, 이를 기반으로 필요로 하는 주요 기능 요소들을 구성하고 각 요소에서 고려되어야 하는 주요 요구 사항을 제시하였다.

  • 구형무인비행체는 다중 모터를 이용한 무인항공기에 비행 소형화, 경량화, 경제화 등의 장점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 구형무인비행체의 경로 추종을 위한 제어기 설계 및 성능에 대한 내용을 다루고 있다. 먼저 구형무인비행체의 운동방정식이 제어기 설계를 위해 유도되었고, 유도된 운동방정식을 이용해 경로 추종 제어기를 설계하였다. 구형무인비행체의 자세제어는 무게중심을 변화하는 방법을 사용하였다. 요구 경로를 설정하여 설계된 제어기의 경로 추종 성능을 MATLAB 시뮬레이션을 통해 확인하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 제시된 제어기가 설정된 경로를 추종하고 있음을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, polar converting logic of bank-to-turn with skidding is provided for small size UAV. In general, original polar converting logic has problems of singularity, safety and flight data analysis when acceleration commands diverge at the end of terminal guidance. To solve those problems, new methodology of polar converting logic of bank-to-turn with skidding is presented. It can easily solve singularity problem, increase safety and provide intuition of data analysis. Simulation and flight results are presented to verify proposed polar converting logic for bank-to-turn with skidding method.

  • Samsung Thales has developed a small-sized autonomous underwater vehicle "BOTO" verified by a mathematical model simulation. The hydrodynamic coefficients and drag force were experimented at circulating water channel for validating cruising performance of the AUV. Based on the mathematical model, we simulated turning radius and way-point tracking on horizontal plane using way-point tracking algorithm. In this paper we introduce the vehicle system and the sea trial test results will be shown.
