Implementation of Pipeline Monitoring System Using Bio-memetic Robots (생체 모방 로봇을 이용한 관로 모니터링 시스템의 구현)

  • We present a pipeline monitoring system based on bio-memetic robot in this paper. A bio-memetic robot exploring pipelines measures temperature, humidity, and vibration. The principal function of pipeline monitoring robot for the exploring pipelines is to recognize the shape of pipelines. We use infrared distance sensor to recognize the shape of pipelines and potentiometer to measure the angle of motor mounting infrared distance sensor. For the shape recognition of pipelines, the number of detected pipelines is used during only one scanning of distance. Three fuzzy classifiers are used for the number of detected pipelines, and the classifying results are presented in this paper.

  • WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network) is a network which is to consistently monitor body signals with implanted or attached sensor nodes. Especially, nodes that are used in medical services have to operate with low power consumption since they are hard to replace, and have to guarantee high data rate and low transmission delay for consistent signal monitor. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that aims to reduce transmission delay and power consumption, and guarantees stable throughput, by assuming the number of active nodes, and followed by dynamically adjusting the random access period and transmission possibilities in a superframe. The assumed number of active nodes may be incorrect since it only relies on the channel status of a previous superframe. Therefore, we assume the number of active nodes and define a pattern. And revise the number of the active nodes with the defined pattern. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we have implemented a WBAN environment with the MATLAB. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides better throughput, low power consumption, and low transmission delay when compared to the slotted ALOHA of the IEEE 802.15.6.

An Efficient Multiple Event Detection in Sensor Networks (센서 네트워크에서 효율적인 다중 이벤트 탐지)

  • Wireless sensor networks have a lot of application areas such as industrial process control, machine and resource management, environment and habitat monitoring. One of the main objects of using wireless sensor networks in these areas is the event detection. To detect events at a user's request, we need a join processing between sensor data and the predicates of the events. If there are too many predicates of events compared with a node's capacity, it is impossible to store them in a node and to do an in-network join with the generated sensor data This paper proposes a predicate-merge based in-network join approach to efficiently detect multiple events, considering the limited capacity of a sensor node and many predicates of events. It reduces the number of the original predicates of events by substituting some pairs of original predicates with some merged predicates. We create an estimation model of a message transmission cost and apply it to the selection algorithm of targets for merged predicates. The experiments validate the cost estimation model and show the superior performance of the proposed approach compared with the existing approaches.

  • In the present work, a sensor system composed of an oscillator sensor and a Lamb wave sensor is proposed for the purpose of structural health monitoring. The oscillator sensing system detecting the shift of a structural resonant frequency in proportion to the amount of defects in the structure is a pretty sensitive and simple device, but its detectable range is limited to its local zone. The Lamb wave sensor system, however, is applicable to global detection of the defects. This study is aimed at investigating the feasible combination of the two systems to exploits their merits simultaneously. The scheme to use PZT patches as the oscillator sensor as well as the Lamb wave sensor was proposed to identify the position, length and number of cracks by means of TOF and amplitude of signals, and its validity was confirmed through experiments.

  • 본 논문은 얀센 메커니즘을 이용한 라인트레이서를 빠르고 정확하게 주행하게 하기 위한 연구를 토대로 작성되었다. 설계변수는 다리 링크길이에 따른 GL(Ground Length)의 크기, 로봇의 크기, 센서의 위치와 개수 그에 따른 Arduino cording으로 결정하였다. 연구는 이 설계변수들과 결과값의 상관관계를 예측하고 실험을 통해 검증하는 방식으로 진행되었다.

  • The multicarrier direct sequence code-division (MC-DS/CDMA) is a well-known multiple access and data transmission scheme that is applicable for various mobile and wireless communications. Particularly for modern, smart vehicles equipped with multiple sensors, MC-DS/CDMA is one of the possible means for giving the sensors to get connected one another for sending and receiving messages and control information. For intra-vehicalur communicaiton and networking applications, we have proposed a novel MC-DS/CDMA multiple access and data transmission scheme incorporating a new idea of inserting sub-symbol based cyclic prefixes for compromising inter-symbol interference. In the performance investigation of our MC-DS/CDMA, we have looked into system performances related to bandwidth utiltzation, coding gain, and multiple number of sensors. Since the channel delay is comparatively shorter inside of vehicle than any other general mobile channels, the proposed scheme can be a successful candidate for networking wireless sensors simultaneously operting in an intelligent vehicle.

  • In the present work, a nonlinear inverse perturbation method which has been used in the structural optimization, is adopted so as to identify the structural damages. Unlike the structural optimization, a larger number of constrained equations than the number of unknown parameters are often required detect structural damage. Therefore, nonlinear least squares method is utilized to solve the problem. Because only a limited number of sensors are available I real situation of damage detection, the determination of sensor location becomes one of the most important issues. Hence, this work concentrates on the issue of sensor placement in the framework of nonlinear inverse perturbation method, and the performances of various methodologies concerning to sensor placement are compared with each other. The comparisons show tat the successive elimination method gets good performance for sensor placement. From the several numerical studies, it is confirmed that the inverse perturbation method, combined with the successive elimination method, is very promising in structural damage detection.

Star Detectability Analysis of Daytime Star Sensor (주간 활용 별센서의 별 감지가능성 분석)

  • This paper discusses the daytime atmospheric conditions and the possibility of daytime star detection with the purpose of practical use of the star sensor for daylight navigation. In order to estimate the daytime atmospheric data, we use the standard atmospheric model (LOWTRAN 7), from which atmospheric transmittance and radiance from background sky are calculated. Assuming the star sensor with an optical filter to reduce background radiation, different separation angles between the star sensor and the sun are set up to express the effect of the solar radiation. As considerations of field of view (FOV) of the star sensor, the variation of the sky background radiation and the star density of the detectable star are analyzed. In addition, the integration time to achieve a required signal-to-noise ratio and the number of the radiation-caused electrons of the charge coupled detector(CCD) working as the limit to daylight application of the star sensor are calculated.

  • In structural health monitoring, the safety of structural members are assessed by the level of stress measured by various strain sensors based on different sensing mechanisms. Since most existing strain sensors used for health monitoring system can cover a relatively small range of structural members, it is very difficult to measure the maximum value of the member subjected to varying amount and types of loads with those point sensors. The reliability of assessed safety of a member may be improved by increasing the number of sensors. It may not be also realistic to increase the number of sensors to overcome these drawbacks. In this paper, a stress measuring method for beam-column members is developed by estimating the maximum stress based on the average strains obtained from long gauge sensor. The average strain from long gage fiber optic sensor is transformed into the maximum strain by multiplication of the modification factor derived in this research.

RFM for High Resolution Satellite Sensor Modeling (RFM을 이용한 고해상도 인공위성 센서모델링)

  • In general, in order to obtain position information from satellite images, satellite sensor model which represents the geometric relationship between sensor and targeted area should be established in the first place. However, it is not simple for modelling pushbroom satellite sensor due to the image capturing process. In recent development of new generation imaging sensors, a generic sensor model, which is applicable to all types of sensors such as frame, pushbroom, whiskbroom, and SAR is in great need to the remote sensing and photogrammetry community. In this paper, the RFM as sensor model was implemented with KOMPSAT EOC and SPOT satellite images and analyzed in cases where the number and distribution of ground control points were varied. The test results of RFM were presented and compared with those of Direct Linear Transformation(DLT).
