To study distribution of bacterial flora and their biochemical characteristics in the Antarctic soilecosystem, these experiments were performed during the austral summer(Feb., 1989) on the King George Island, Antarctica. The numbers of heterotrophic bacterial colonies and extracellular enzyme actibities were estimated from the Antarctic terrestrial soils which were sampled from 17 different locations near Sejong station (Korea) and Teniente Jubany station (Argentina) on the King George Island. The numbers of heterotrophic bacterial colonies were extremely variable with sampling sites and incubation temperatures. Arithmetric average numbers were $2.5\times 10^{4}$, $2.7\times 10^{7}$ , $6.9\times 10^{5}$ CFU/$cm^{3}$ soil at the incubation temperature of $37^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$ and $4^{\circ}C$, respectively. The activities of extracellular $\alpha$-glucosidase, $\beta$-glucosidase and N-acetyl-$\beta$-glucosaminidase were shown as similar mean percentage in the colonies obtained at different temperatures. Mean value of protease activities, however, was remarkably higher (92%) in the colonies grown at $4^{\circ}C$,.

The purpose of this study is to review the current status of disseminating knowledge on Korean people by analyzing biographies for juvenile and general audiences with the subject term 'Korea' in WorldCat. Languages and topics of 15,007 bibliographic records and topic facets, biographees, and holding libraries in the U.S. of 487 biographies for juvenile audiences were analyzed. Major findings are as follows: 1) 30 English biographies are held by may libraries in the U.S. and the most popular subjects are Kim Il-song and Kim Jong-il, 2) 457 Korean biographies are not held by many libraries, and King Sejong and the General Yi Sun-sin are the most popular subjects, 3) many Korean biographies are picture books for the very young readers with the focus on Korean folklores and anecdotal biographies, and 4) there are some errors in topic facets, dispersion of biographees, and inaccurate holding lists of bibliographic records. Therefore, there seems to be little to read with an interest and promote the diffusion of knowledge on Korean people through libraries.

This study was carried out to investigate the backgrounds and spatial characteristics of the sericulture in the rear garden of the palace in Joseon Dynasty. Joseon Dynasty made the various efforts not only to enhance the promotion of agriculture but also sericulture since the main industry of Joseon Dynasty was farming. At the very beginning, Joseon Dynasty planted mulberry trees and built a silkworm-raising room(蠶室) around the Donggung(東宮). Then, King Sungjong(成宗) made Chaesangdan(採桑壇) in Changgyeong Palace and performed Chinzamryae(親蠶禮). The location of Chaesangdan varied as time goes on until the king Gwanghaegun(光海君). Lastly, King Yeongjo(英祖) made Chaesangdan and Junghaechinzambi(丁亥親蠶碑) in Gyeongbok Palace. Yeongjo(英祖) showed a strong attachment to Gyeongbok Palace and actively encouraged the sericulture. Chaesangdan was built in the east side of the palace which was appropriate for planting mulberry trees. Furthermore, a silkworm-raising room was located in this place at the era of King Sejong(世宗).

We are to build an unsupervised machine learning-based language model which can estimate the amount of information that are in need to process words consisting of subword-level morphemes and syllables. We are then to investigate whether the reading times of words reflecting their morphemic and syllabic structures are predicted by an information-theoretic measure such as surprisal. Specifically, the proposed Morfessor-based unsupervised machine learning model is first to be trained on the large dataset of sentences on Sejong Corpus and is then to be applied to estimate the information-theoretic measure on each word in the test data of Korean words. The reading times of the words in the test data are to be recruited from Korean Lexicon Project (KLP) Database. A comparison between the information-theoretic measures of the words in point and the corresponding reading times by using a linear mixed effect model reveals a reliable correlation between surprisal and reading time. We conclude that surprisal is positively related to the processing effort (i.e. reading time), confirming the surprisal hypothesis.

This paper analyzes the relationships among the energy consumption, renewable energy production, real gross regional domestic product(GRDP), and greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions. It uses the metropolitan city and province level data for Korea from 2010 to 2018, employing a panal vector autoregressive(VAR) model. We find that an increase in energy consumption has a limited impact on boosting renewable energy production or gross regional domestic product, while it leads to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions. A rise in renewable energy production can increase gross regional domestic product, but it has no meaningful effects on energy consumption and the reduction of green house gas emissions. Our finding indicates that it is crucial to expand the supply of renewable energy as well as to decrease energy consumption in order to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reaching economic growth.

In active sonar, time delay estimation is used to find the distance between the target and the sonar. Among the time delay estimation methods for active sonar, estimation in the frequency domain is widely used. When estimating in the frequency domain, the time delay can be thought of as a frequency estimator, so it can be used relatively easily. However, this method is prone to rapid increase in error due to noise. In this paper, we propose a new method which applies weighted dictionary and sparsity in order to reduce this error increase and we extend it to two receivers to propose an algorithm for estimating the time delay between two receivers. And the case of applying the proposed method and the case of not applying the proposed method including the conventional frequency domain algorithm and Generalized Cross Correlation-Phase transform (GCC-PHAT) in a white noise environment were compared with one another. And we show that the newly proposed method has a performance gain of about 15 dB to about 60 dB compared to other algorithms.

In this study, four Korean black raspberry wines were developed from different regions in Korea; Gochang (G), Heongsung (H), Jeongup (J), and Sungchang (S). Their flavor profiles were determined using a combination of volatile analysis and sensory evaluation. From the volatile analysis of the developed wines, 8 acids, 17 alcohols, 12 esters, 9 terpenes, 3 aldehydes and ketones, and 4 miscellaneous compounds were identified. Preferences of appearance, aroma, full-body, and overall acceptability in the developed wines were determined using 9-point hedonic scale by 43 panelists, compared with one commercial black raspberry wine (Sunw). The sweetness, sourness, astringency levels were also evaluated using 9-point just-about-right (JAR) scale. The mean overall acceptability score of Sunw (5.58) was the highest among the tested wines, followed by G (4.81), S (4.44), H (4.41), and J (4.13) (p<0.05). Sweetness levels in the developed wines were overall lower than JAR level, while sourness and astringency levels were overall higher than JAR level.

The museum, run by the archives, should show historical facts about the president through objective records that are not fully evaluated. The wartime atmosphere should maintain solemnity to highlight the evidential value of records about history, but include an interesting element that allows visitors to come comfortably. It would be possible to accommodate 360 viewers at the same time, and it would be an option to limit the number of visitors considering the operation of weekend events and the donor honor hall. In this study, we established and presented an image integration plan centered on the color plan and the signature plan. Although the real image integration plan is a case study that starts with symbols and logos and is conducted through an integrated and systematic system through the basic design and application design system, it is considered to be a meaningful study in terms of practical use.

In the many countries including United States, numerous librarians participate as research project members and publish papers in related/non-LIS journals. In recent years, the quantity of papers published by librarians in LIS journals and the non-LIS journals is similar. This study analyzed whether librarians join the research team in various academic fields in South Korea, carry out the research together, and publish the papers in co-authorship. This study collected and analyzed 319 articles of the authors affiliated with libraries published in the last 10 years from the Korea Citation Index. As a result, there were not many articles published by the authors in the non-LIS journal. Nonetheless, specific examples of librarians collaborating closely with other disciplinary research teams were observed; Medicine, Architecture, Materials Engineering, etc. Librarians' contribution in research projects in South Korea is expected to increase in the future. Therefore, it is desirable to prepare for this such as opening courses on research projects in the library and the department of LIS which is training librarians as well.

"사실 국가건축정책위원장 책임을 떠안는 것에 고민을 많이 했습니다. 작금 건축의 본질에 관해 꽤 진지하게 논하는 결정권자들이 많아진 상황에서 직을 맡은 이상 그냥 시간만 보내진 않을 겁니다. 평소 생각한 건축계의 부족한, 불합리한, 불비한 부분을 임기 중 완전히 고치진 못한다 하더라도 시작은 해놓고 끝내려 합니다." 작년 4월 취임한 승효상 대통령소속 국가건축정책위원장이 국내 건축계 현안에 대한 생각과 앞으로의 계획을 설명했다. 그가 걸어온 삶의 궤적에는 건축의 공공성 문화적 가치라는 단어들이 새겨져 있으며, 이는 그가 활동해 온 건축계 여러 운동 모임에서도 살펴볼 수 있다. 지식인으로서 마땅히 지녀야 할 건축사(Architect)의 책무에 관해서는 쓴소리도 서슴지 않았던 그다. 2014년 서울시 '초대 총괄건축가'로 선임돼 서울시의 도시정책과 건축문화, 공공 공간조성 등 도시계획 전반에 대해 역할을 했다면, 이젠 국가 건축정책의 목표와 관계 부처간 건축정책의 심의.조정까지 그 역할범위가 커졌다. 필드의 건축사라면 승효상 국가건축정책위원장에게 기대하는 바가 큰 게 사실이다. 실제 그의 취임 후 정부 내 국건위의 위상은 과거와 달라졌으며, 작년 9월 4일에는 문재인 대통령이 서울 은평구 구산동 도서관마을에서 열린 '대한민국 국민생활 SOC현장 방문, 동네 건축현장을 가다' 행사에 참석해 도서관, 체육관, 경로당 등 '생활 SOC 혁신의지'를 강조해 눈길을 끌었다. 최근 정부세종신청사 설계공모 관련 논란에는 "국토부에 소관 설계공모 규정을 고쳐야 함을 권고했다. 고칠 거다! 안 고치면 안 되게 돼 있다!"며 목소리에 힘을 주어 재차 강조했다. 제5기 대통령소속 국가건축정책위원장으로 선임돼 지난해 4월부터 역할을 해온 승효상 건축사를 종로구 동숭동 (주)종합건축사사무소 이로재(履露齋)에서 만났다.
