Development of machining apparatus for ceramic ball bearing (자성유체 연마법을 이용한 세라믹볼 베어링 가공장치의 개발)

  • Recently a new process known as the magnetic fluid grinding has been developed, which can remove material from the surface of ceramic balls by fifty to one hundred times more rapidly than the conventional lapping process. In this study, the ceramic balls with various compositions are made and ground by using the magnetic fluid grinding technique with various machining parameters. In order to make well-round shaped balls by using the magnetic fluid grinding technique, the fundamental research to find out the machining factors has been carried out. Developing an equipment with higher efficiency and reliability in the machining could certainly lead to the higher productivity with excellent quality of ceramic balls.

Temperature Characteristics of High Speed Angular Contact Ball Bearing (고속 앵귤러 컨택트 볼 베어링의 온도특성)

  • This paper shows the temperature characteristics of a high speed angular contact ball gearing which is 7004C type with ISO P2 tolerance class. A built-in motor type high speed spindle which adopts an oil-air lubrication system was used to measure the temperature rise up to 60,000rpm. The gearing temperature was measured using thermocouples that were attached to the outside surfaces of the outer rings. The result showed that the continuous test method which was suggested in this paper is more effective than on and off method and the lubrication oil supply rate should be reduced in high speed rolling bearings as long as the seizure does not occur. And the result were confirmed that the bearings packed with ceramic balls are superior to those with steel balls in temperature characteristics.

  • 본 연구에서는 취성재료이면서, 세라믹과 유사한 성질을 가지며 내부균열관찰이 용이한 상업용 유리의 표면에 세라믹 플라즈마 용사 코팅한 후 입자 충격시험을 실시하였다. 코팅분말로는 매마모성 및 내충격성이 우수하여 산업계에서 널리 사용되고 있는 $Al_{2}O_{3}$ 분말을 사용하였으며, 충격입자로는 고경도의 STB2 볼베어링강을 사용하였다. 공기압축기를 장착한 입자 충격시험기를 이용하여 강구입자 충격시험을 실시한후, 실체현미경을 이용하여 손상정도를 분석하였다. 그리고 코팅입자의 크기 및 기공율에 따른 손상 정도를 분석 방법에 따라 손상정도를 비교${\cdot}$검토하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 전방항성 초음파 액추에이터의 제작, 시뮬레이션, 구동 드라이버 제작, 제어 방법에 대하여 연구하였다. 우선, 시뮬레이션 툴인 ATILA를 사용하여 전방향성 초음파 액추에이터를 설계하였고 구동 주파수, 어드미턴스 특성 그리고 액추에이터의 움직임을 분석하여 최적의 구동 주파수 영역을 파악하였다. 실제 구동을 확인하기 위하여 액추에이터 스테이지와 구동 드라이버를 개발 하였다. 전방항성 액추에이터 스테이지의 구조는 액추에이터와 4개의 볼 베어링이 알루미나 볼을 압착하는 형태이며 세라믹에 인가되는 사인파의 위상차에 의하여 4개의 방향으로 구동 할 수 있다. 또한, 액추에이터를 위치 제어를 위하여 로터리 엔코더 두 개를 사용하여 구의 움직임을 파악하였고 PID 제어기법을 사용하여 액추에이터의 움직임을 제어하였다. 스테이지 구조상 엔코더의 $70^{\circ}$ 내에서만 구동 가능하며, 실험 결과를 통하여 전방향성 초음파 액추에이터는 약 $1.2^{\circ}$의 분해능을 가지고 구동영역 내 원하는 좌표로의 이동이 가능했고, 향후 고 정밀 관절 및 인공 눈에 응용 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

Performance Analysis of High-Speed Ceramic Ball Bearings Under Thrust Loads in EHD Lubrication (축방향 하중을 받는 고속 세라믹 볼베어링에 대한 EHD 윤활영역에서의 성능 해석)

  • This paper presents a high-speed performance analysis of ball bearings with ceramic balls under thrust loads. The sliding velocity profiles between a ball and raceways were obtained by the 3-D quasi-dynamic equations of motion including both centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment derived by vector matrix algebra. The friction at the contact areas was obtained by the Bair-Winer's non-Newtonian rheological model and the Hamrock-Dowson's central film thickness in EHL analysis. The nonlinear equations were solved by the Newton-Raphson method and the underrelaxation iterative method. The friction torques and ball behaviors with various loads, ball materials, and contact angles were predicted by this model. It was shown that the friction torque was sensitive to thrust load and contact angle, and that the friction torque and the pitch angle of the bearing with ceramic balls are smaller than those of the bearing with steel balls.

  • In this study, a motor-integrated high-speed spindle system with .psi. 65mm*25,000rpm is developed by introducing the oil-jet lubrication method,ceramic angular contact ball bearing, a built-in motor and so on. And oil-jet lubrication experiments for evaluating the system performance are performed under various operation conditions. Especially, in order to establish the oil-jet lubrication conditions related to the development of a high-speed spindle system, the effects of oil supply rate and rotational spindle speed are investigated on the temperature rise, temperature distribution,motor current and so on.

  • A motor-integrated high-speed spindle system with .psi. 65*25, 000rpm is modeled for analytical and experimental studies related to the dynamic characteristics. And the systematic and rational identification processes for evaluating the material properties of spindle and built-in motor is introduced. The impulse excitation method is applied for the experimental model testing, and the dynamic characteristics of test model is theoretically analysed by using the finite element method based on Timoshenko theory. Especially, the experimental and theoetical results reveal that the test model under the required operational conditions has no critical problem for dynamic characteristics.

  • This paper presents the structural characteristics analysis of a high-speed horizontal machining center with spindle speed of 50, 000rpm and feedrate of 120m/min. The spindle system is designed based on the built-in motor, angular contact ceramic ball bearings, oil-air lubrication and oil-jacket cooling method. The X-axis and Y-axis feeding systems are composed of the linear motor and linear motion guides, and the Z-axis feeding system is composed of the servo-motor, ball screw and linear motion guide. The structural analysis model of the high-speed horizontal machining center is constructed by the finite element method, and the validity of structural design is estimated based on the structural deformation of the high-speed horizontal machining center and spindle nose caused by the gravity and inertia forces.

The spindle system is designed based on the built-in motor, angular contact ceramic ball bearings, oil-air lubrication and oil-jacket cooling method. The thermal characteristics such as the temperature distribution, temperature rise, thermal deformation and step response, are estimated based on the finite element model of machining center and the heat generation rates of heat sources related to the machine operation conditions. Especially, the thermal time constant assessed from the step response function is introduced as an index of thermal response characteristics.
