  • The $76^{th}$ National Treasure is consisted of seven volumes of Nanjung Ilgi (War Diary of Admiral Yi Sun-sin; each titled by the author based on the zodiac name of the year covered, i.e. Imjin Ilgi, Gyesa Ilgi, Gabo Ilgi, Byeongsin Ilgi, Jeongyu Ilgi, Sok Jeongyu Ilgi, Musul Ilgi), Seogancheob (Letters of Admiral Yi) and Imjin Jangcho (Drafts of Imjin War Reports of Admiral Yi). These are currently in the custody of Hyeonchungsa shrine, the state-managed memorial shrine of Admiral Yi, and has been added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Register in June 2013 in the appreciation of its historical and academic importance as a commander's hand-written battlefield accounts during Japanese invasions of Korea. Imjin Jangcho, among these nine volumes, is a record of battles, including observations on the enemy fleets, suggestions on naval matters, battle expenditure, and methods of battle preparation, transcribed by someone else according to Admiral Yi's instructions. It is Admiral Yi's honest detailobservations on the war situation during Japanese invasions of Korea from 1592 as a Naval Commander of Left Jeolla Province, till 1594 (Year 27 of King Seonjo's reign) as a Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces of the South. It is a draft of the war report to be submitted to the King in a single volume as a folio (each sheet folded once to produce one leaf) bound in a side-stitched binding with five holes and inner binding of twisted paper. This study explores the condition and the treatment performed on Imjin Jangcho which could have an implication for the conservation of cultural assets on paper of late Joseon Dynasty.

  • Korea has the glorious documentary cultural heritage including Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, Memory of the World, from old times. But We had been felt into serious situation, it is very difficult to find some records of late years, through rapid changes of society in modern history. Fortunately, in 1999, "law of archives management in public sector" was enacted but It is some difficult to apply to field. Accordingly, We studied archives laws and record management systems, education systems in Japan and China, neighborhood countries and compared them with Korea's. Life cycle of Gathering, Managing, Using records & archives is reflected in China's archives law, "Dangan" and It is useful to referred to Korea. On the other hand, Japan and Korea's archives law focus on administering and capturing records and archives. In case of Management agency of archives, China has a linear managing system from state to regional agency and Japan and Korea have different system in State and Region. We recommend following items ; reform archives law, status of government archives, professional education and arrangement etc.

  • This study is about the historical records of anchovy which has fluent nutritions as well as the representative side dish in Korean food culture and life. The formal first record about anchovy is in the Uhaeieobo written by Damjeung in 1803. Another important historical record about anchovy are Hyeonsaneobo(Jasaneobo) written by Jeong Yak-jeon in 1814, and Eomyeonggo(Fish name list) of Nanhoeomogji written by Seo Yu-gu in 1820. The anchovies were used for food in Korea even before the Chosun Dynasty, but they were not noticed by people. Because at that time, fishing tools and instruments such as nets were not developed enough to raise enough catches and food processing technology were not developed. Since then, in the Japanese colonial era, it has been actively developing agricultural fertilizers using anchovies. In addition, the processing technology that can be used as an edible food using anchovy has been rapidly developed. Now, the anchovy industry has very important position in Korea's fisheries industry. Among them, 'Jukbangryum anchovy' catching bamboo weir tool which has been existed for over five hundred years in Namhae province, not only creates great high economic value, but also has cultural value. Therefore, the historical literature study on anchovy can be used as an invaluable resource not only for the study of fishery from an industrial point of view, but also for the registration of world cultural heritage and GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System) of 'Jukbangryum' which is traditional fishery catching instrument in Korea.

  • This study looked at how the digital cultural heritage, which is being actively built by the government and public institutions, can be utilized in the metaverse service. Through an expert interview, we investigated how the digital cultural heritage of Bulguksa can be serviced with the four elements of the metaverse: augmented reality, mirror world, lifelogging, and virtual world. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that when digital cultural heritage is used in a virtual space called metaverse, interactive and realistic services can be provided to users. In addition, it was found that users can exhibit, experience, and educate online parts that are not available in real life in the same situation as if they were in the field. Through this, it was confirmed that if digital cultural heritage is designed as a metaverse service, it can provide functions and services of a different level than before. In particular, the result was obtained that it is possible to provide services considering the characteristics of each of the four elements of the metaverse. First, it is possible to obtain the convenience of augmenting the senses by using augmented reality, and secondly, it is possible to obtain the scalability and efficiency of reproducing the real space by using it as a mirror world element. Third, by using the lifelogging element, communication can be strengthened through the user's record and connection, and fourthly, through the virtual world element, roles and activities in the virtual world can be given to the user. Therefore, if digital cultural heritage is developed as a metaverse service in consideration of these factors, a more active and open experience environment can be provided to users.

  • Petroglyphs is an essential part of the worldwide cultural heritage since it plays a key role for the comprehension of prehistoric communities previous to writing. nowadays 3D data are a critical component to permanently record the form of important cultural heritage so that they might be passed down to future generations. Recent 3D scanning technologies allow the generation of very realistic 3D model that can be used for multimedia museum exhibitions to attract the users into the 3D world. In this paper, we develop the 3D petroglyph VR contents based on a novel gesture recognition method. The proposed gesture recognition method can recognizes the movements of the user using 3D depth sensor by comparing with the pre-defined movements. Also this paper presents new approaches for 3D petroglyphs data recording using 3D scanning technology as accurate and non-destructive tools.

  • Wild ginseng, grown in undisturbed forest environments, has been maintained for centuriesthrough human intervention and knowledge, leading to the development of current ginseng agriculture. The practice of ginseng farming has long been established in various regions of Korea. However, the ginseng farming specifically in Geumsan was recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 2018. This designation was granted after a thorough evaluation, which confirmed that Geumsan's ginseng farming met the necessary criteria, including historical importance, traditional knowledge system, agrobiodiversity, and agricultural landscape. Traditional ginseng farming in Geumsan practices the 'rotating agriculture system', a sustainable land use approach that has been developed over several cycles of long duration (10-15 years). It contains the knowledge to choose locations for cultivation that prioritize the direction of sunlight and wind circulation. Furthermore, it received significant recognition for its agricultural heritage value based on its maintenance of several traditional knowledge systems, including ancestral wisdom and knowledge regarding pre-planting field management techniques. As of December 2023, there are currently 86 locations in 26 nations that have been designated as GIAHS. Among these sites, Geumsan stands out as the first and only site in the world specifically recognized for the cultivation of ginseng crops. This historical record serves as a significant reminder of Korea's prominent position as a major producer of ginseng on a global level. This article first provides an overview of the concept of agricultural heritage, the designation criteria, and the status of the designation. It then identifies, among the GIAHS designation criteria, the agricultural heritage value of traditional ginseng farming in the Geumsan region from the perspective of local traditional knowledge systems.

  • In this study, the landscape characteristics of the sacred Dangsan forests at Singi-ri, Namwon-si were investigated as an agricultural heritage, and the management scheme for revitalization of the village was introduced. FAO established the term of 'GIAHS' (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) for conservation of each country's farmland, unique agricultural landscape, and cultural diversity. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of Korea evaluates that the Agricultural Heritage is a new means and potential for rural development. Dangsan forest, a traditional village forests of rural Korea is a representative 'agricultural heritage' with a history of more than several hundred years of Dangsan ritual. The Dangsan forests were closely linked with paddy fields. This forest was composed of two Dangsan forests, and one Bibo forest. Especially, the Dangsan forest 2 was established on the mounding with 395m in length and 15m in width. Although, most of Dangsan forests do not have accurate records about forest establishment, this forest has retained a stone monument that illustrated the history of the forest. These aspects of Singi-ri's Dangsan forest indicated clear difference and characteristics compared to other ones. This Dangsan forest has been left alone from the public attention. The Dangsan forest at Singi-ri need to be recognized for their valuable landscape characteristics. By linking the Dangsan forest with 'Jirisan trail', the trail path will lead people to the agricultural heritage at Singi-ri. Enhancing the management scheme will contribute to revitalize the village.
