  • Magnetotelluric (MT) survey investigates electrical structure of subsurface by measuring natural electromagnetic fields on the earth surface. For the accurate interpretation of MT data, the precise three-dimensional (3-D) modeling algorithm is prerequisite. Since MT responses are affected by electrical anisotropy of medium, the modeling algorithm has to incorporate the electrical anisotropy especially when analyzing time-lapse MT data sets, for monitoring engineered geothermal system (EGS) reservoir, because changes in different-vintage MT-data sets are small. This study developed a MT modeling algorithm for the simulation MT responses in the presence of electrical anisotropy by improving a pre-existing staggered-grid finite-difference MT modeling algorithm. After verifying the developed algorithm, we analyzed the effect of vertical transversely isotropic (VTI) anisotropy on MT responses. In addition, we are planning to extend the applicability of the developed algorithm which can simulate not only the horizontal transversely isotropic (HTI) anisotropy, but also the tiled transversely isotropic (TTI) anisotropy.

Asymmetric Effect of News on Stock Return Volatility in Asian Stock Markets (최근 아시아 주식시장에서의 주식수익률 변동성의 비대칭적 반응)

  • This study investigates the recent asymmetric effect of news on stock return volatility in Asian five stock markets - Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia - since 2000. This study uses the GJR-M model which shows a different effect of a good and bad news on volatility. Empirical results show that the unexpected negative return has a more crucial effect on stock return volatility than the unexpected positive one does in all five stock markets. This implies that the bad news of the stock markets gives a more remarkable effect on volatility than good news does. This study finds that it is very important for market participants and regulation practitioners to distinguish between positive and negative return shocks in the stock markets since bad news might have a larger impacts on volatility than good news.

  • A test particle kinetic theory for reaction dynamics in liquids is presented at the repeated ring collision level for the hard sphere model. A kinetic equation for the equilibrium time correlation function of the reactive test particle phase space density is derived and the rate kernel expression for the reversible chemical reaction of the type A +B ${\rightleftharpoons$ C + D in the presence of inert solvent S is obtained by the projection operator method.

Estimation of the Removal Capacity for Cadmium and Calculation of Minimum Reaction Time of BOF Slag (제강슬래그의 카드뮴 제거능 평가 및 필요반응시간 결정)

  • This study was focused on the reactivity of furnace slag against cadmium to design the vertical drain method with reactive column for improving contaminated sea shore sediment. The kinetic sorption test was performed by changing the initial concentration and pH. Using pseudo-second-order model, the reactivity of furnace slag was quantitatively analyzed. Equilibrium removal amount ($q_e$) of furnace slag increased and rate constant ($k_2$) decreased with the increase of initial cadmium concentration. With the increase of pH, the equilibrium removal amount ($q_e$) and rate constant ($k_2$) increased in the same initial concentration. Required retention time was related to the inverse of the product of the equilibrium removal amount ($q_e$) multiplied by rate constant ($k_2$). The required retention time could be used to design the length of reactive column.

  • 최근 시각 장애인을 위한 인공망막 모델 구현에 관한 연구 중 시피질 자극기 기술은 시각 자극 전달의 중간 단계를 생략하고 직접 뇌세포를 자극하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 망막에서 시각 피질로 시각정보를 전달할 때 발생하는 시각 피질의 특성, 즉 방향성에 대한 반응 특성을 특징 데이터로 구성하여 인식함으로써 인간 시각 정보 처리와 유사한 영상 추출 및 인식 모델을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 영상의 특징을 추출 한 후 Delta-bar-delta 기반 오류 역전파 알고리즘을 적용하여 영상의 특징들을 인식한다. 제시된 방법의 성능을 분석하기 위하여 다양한 숫자 패턴들을 대상으로 실험한 결과, 제안된 망막 세포로부터 전달된 정보를 방향성에 대한 민감성을 고려하여 영상의 특성을 추출하여 인식하는 모델이 기존의 영상 추출 및 인식 모델보다 인식률에 있어서는 별 차이가 없지만 다양한 실험에서 확인할 수 있듯이 인간 시각과 같이 인식 성능이 민감하지 않는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • The conventional method of magnetic abrasive polishing is not suitable for non-magnetic materials because such polishing is basically possible when magnetic force exists and the magnetic force in non-magnetic materials is very low. The installation of an electromagnet under the working area of a non-magnetic material, which is called second-generation magnetic abrasive polishing in this study, can enhance the magnetic force. Experimental evaluation and optimization of process parameters for polishing magnesium alloy steel was performed by adopting the design of experiments and the response surface method. The results indicated that the intensity of the magnetic force and spindle speed are significant parameters that affect the improvement of surface roughness. A prediction model for the surface roughness of the magnesium alloy steel is developed using the second-order response surface method.

  • The present paper was carried out to investigate the inhibition of carcinogenic N-nitrosodimethylamine(NDMA) formation by Maillard reactiion products and nondialyzable melanoidins, obtiane dfrom the glucoseamino acids(Lys, Gly, Arg, His) model systems under different pH conditions(pH 1.2, 4.2 and 6.0). Maillard raction products and nondialyzable melanoidins, produced from the 4 model systems, had a inhibitory action of N-nitrosodimethylamine formation. The inhibitiondegree by the nondialyzable mealanoidins. at pH 1.2 was similar to that at pH 4.2 and that by ascorbic acid at pH 1.2 . Inhibitory action of N-nitrosodimehylamine formation by the reduced Maillard reaction products and nondialyzable melanoidins were lower than that of original samples. Accordingly, it is assumed that the inhibition of N-nitrosodimehtylamine formation of Maillard reaction products is due to their reducing powers.

Trichloroethylene Treatment by Zero-Valent Iron and Ferrous Iron with Iron-Reducing Bacteria - Model Development (영가철 및 철환원균을 이용한 2가 산화철 매질에 의한 TCE 제거 연구 - 모델수립)

  • Numerical simulation was carried out to study the trichloroethylene (TCE) degradation by permeable reactive barrier (PRB), and revealed the effect of concentration of TCE, iron medium mass, and concentration of iron-reducing bacteria (IRB). Newly developed model was based on axial dispersion reactor model with chemical and biological reaction terms and was implemented using MATLAB ver R2006A for the numerical solutions of dispersion, convection, and reactions over column length and elapsed time. The reaction terms include reactions of TCE degradation by zero-valent iron (ZVI, Fe$^0$) and ferrous iron (Fe$^{2+}$). TCE concentration in the column inlet was maintained as 10 mg/L. Equation for Fe$^0$ degradation includes only TCE reaction term, while one for Fe$^{2+}$ has chemical and biological reaction terms with TCE and IRB, respectively. Two coupled equations eventually modeled the change of TCE concentration in a column. At Fe$^0$ column, TCE degradation rate was found to be more than 99% from 60 hours to 235 hours, and declined to less than 1% in 1,365 hours. At the Fe$^{2+}$ and IRB mixed column, TCE degradation rate was equilibrated at 85.3% after 210 hours and kept it constant. Effects on the Oxidation Rate with Silicon Orientation and Its Surface Morphology (실리콘배향에 따른 산화 속도 영향과 표면 Morphology)

  • The $SiO_2$ films were prepared by ECR(electron cyclotron resonance) plasma diffusion method, Deal-Grove model and Wolters-Zegers-van Duynhoven model were used to estimate the oxidation rate which was correlated with surface morphology for different orientation of Si(100) and Si(111). It was seen the $SiO_2$ thickness increased linearly with initial oxidation time. But oxidation rate slightly decrease with oxidation time. It was also shown that the oxidation process was controlled by the diffusion of the reactive species through the oxide layer rather than by the reaction rate at the oxide interface. The similar time dependency has been observed for thermal and plasma oxidation of silicon. From D-G model and W-Z model, the oxidation rate of Si(111) was 1.13 times greater than Si(100) because Si(111) had higher diffusion and reaction rate, these models more closely fits the experimental data. The $SiO_2$ surface roughness was found to be uniform at experimental conditions without etching although oxidation rate was increased, and to be nonuniform due to etching at experimental condition with higher microwave power and closer substrate distance.
