A Numerical Study of Sandwich Injection Mold Filling Process (샌드위치 사출성형의 충전 공정 해석에 대한 수치모사 연구)

  • Sandwich injection molding is one of the remarkable polymer processes recently developed from conventional injection molding. But it is almost impossible to do theoretical investigation that we've researched it through numerical simulation. In this paper, numerical simulation on the study of sandwich injection molding is based on Finite Element Method and FAN/Control Volume method. In addition to conventional filling parameter that can confirm skin polymer melt front, new filling parameters have been introduced to confirm core polymer melt front advancement. These filling parameters are defined in each layer which is divided to solve temperature field along the thickness direction. One can notice different filling patterns resulted from the variation of material properties such as viscosities and power-law indexes, and processing conditions such as switch-over times and wall temperatures. It gives us a better understanding of the sandwich injection molding process. And we can recognize that it's the core polymer spatial distribution after the completion of filling that is the most important key point to use this process for industrial molding process.

Forming of Dome and Inlet Parts of a High Pressure CNG Vessel by the Hot Spinning Process (열간 스피닝 공정을 통한 CNG 고압용기의 돔 및 입구 부 성형)

  • The CNG pressure vessel is manufactured by a deep drawing and ironing (D.D.I) process for forming cylinder parts, followed by a spinning process for formation of the dome part. However, studies on the buckling phenomenon of the dome part and formation of the inlet part have not been performed yet, and the CNG pressure vessel is produced by the experience of the field engineers and the trial and error method. In this study, buckling phenomenon during the spinning process was predicted by comparing critical buckling loads obtained through theoretical analysis with axial loads from the FEA, and a method for preventing buckling of the dome part was proposed by employing commercial software (Forge NxT 1.0.2). Also, to form the inlet part, forming loads of the roller at contact point between the roller and the dome part were analyzed according to radii of the dome part, and the inlet part was formed by controlling the radius of the dome part.

Effects of Extrusion Process Parameters on Puffing of Extruded Pellets (압출성형 공정변수가 압출성형 펠릿의 팽화에 미치는 영향)

  • Pressure-puffing system or extruder has been used to puff rice kernel or rice flour. Most of the study on rice puffing were the effect of process conditions such as moisture content and heating temperature on physical and chemical characteristics of popped rice. The study on mechanism and development of instant puffed rice like popcorn has been limited. Extruded waxy rice pellets were puffed in a microwave oven after drying and conditioning. Extruded pellets were formed with extrusion conditions of $20{\sim}27%$ moisture content, 2.76 MPa $CO_2$ gas injection pressure and 200 rpm screw speed. Under these conditions, puffed waxy rice pellets in microwave oven had low density and soft texture. Density and texture of puffed waxy rice pellet could be optimized by control of moisture content, $CO_2$ gas injection pressure and screw speed that affect significantly when puffing extruded waxy rice pellet.

A study on the forming condition of a bone plate made of a glass/polypropylene composite (Twintex) (유리섬유/폴리프로필렌 복합재료 (Twintex)를 이용한 고정판 성형조건에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, tensile and bending tests of glass/polypropylene composite (Twintex) specimens fabricated by various forming conditions were carried out and the results were compared according to the forming conditions to find the appropriate condition for the forming composite bone plates. From the tests it was found that the most appropriate forming conditions were $230^{\circ}C$, 3MPa. Composite bone plates were formed using this condition by two different fabricating methods for screw holes: one was a net shape molding and the other was drilling. The forming and bending tests revealed that the drilling process provided much better bending stiffness of bone plates. This paper provided the most appropriate condition for forming composite bone plates and this result was also expected to offer informative data on forming of other Twintex structures.

  • The appearance of the negative differential pressure(NDP), in which the shot base pressure is higher than the breech pressure, indicates that a potential damage on the gun system is increased. In order to safeguard the gun system, the igniter must be designed to minimize the NDP during the firing process. From this reason, the effect of igniter's burning rate on the NDP of the interior ballistics has been investigated through the numerical simulations. The NDP has been increased with increment of the coefficient in the burning rate of the igniter. A sudden change of the chamber pressure has been shown in case of using a singular coefficient.

  • Tractrix dies, used in the deep drawing process, can be used to form CNG pressure vessels without a blank holder. Previous studies had only applied tractrix profiles to perform the first deep drawing process of DDI; but an optimal design of the tractrix die that focuses on improving die life and reducing production cost has not been performed yet. In this study, finite element analyses of deep drawing processes were conducted according to heights of the tractrix die by using translating asymptotes. In addition, researchers analyzed von-Mises stresses at the part of stress concentration of the die according to the forming punch loads in order to propose an optimal tractrix die design.

Baroplastic Properties of Core-double Shell Type Nanoparticles Consisting of Crosslinked PS as a Core and PBA and PS as Shells (가교된 PS 코어와 PBA 및 PS 셸로 이루어진 코어-더블셸형 나노입자의 압력가소성)

  • Polymer nanoparticles with cross-linked core and PBA/PS double-shell were synthesized and their baroplastic properties were characterized. PBA/PS, the inner and outer shell with cross-linked core consisting of St and DVB were synthesized by three-stage emulsion polymerization. The obtained materials exhibited pressure-induced mixing of their components and could be processed at $25^{\circ}C$ by compression molding which means there was no effect of the presence of cross-linked core. Interestingly, the Young's modulus of molded objects has found to be affected strongly by the size of double-shell nanoparticles. Furthermore, the molded object of higher PBA content was successfully recycled 5 times at $25^{\circ}C$ and showed 0.55 MPa of modulus and 1.81 MPa of strength at break.

  • 사출성형은 열가소성수지의 가공법으로써 정밀도나 고품질의 제품을 효과적으로 생산하는데 널리 이용되며 플라스틱은 현재 광범위하게 사용되고 있는 공업재료 중의 하나이다. 과거에는 플라스틱을 일회용품 및 외장재로 사용하였다. 그러나 산업기술이 발전하며 플라스틱은 금속을 대체 할 수 있는 재료로서 사용할 수 있다는 인식의 변화로 점차 기계요소용 재료로 사용되고 있으며 기계요소용 재료로 사용됨에 따라 플라스틱 제품이 정밀한 부품으로 사용되기 위해서는 금형의 가공뿐만 아니라 사출성형 시 용융수지가 금형의 각 캐비티에 균형적으로 충전되는것이 요구된다. 이러한 요구조건을 만족하기 위해서는 각 캐비티의 가공치수는 매우 높은 정밀도를 유지해야 하며, 각 캐비티에서의 충전과 냉각도 동일한 상태를 유지해야 한다. 충전 불균형은 성형품의 품질에 큰 저해 요인으로서 플라스틱 제품의 치수성, 밀도, 외관품질, 강도 등에 불균일한 결과를 가져오는 요인으로 지적되고 있다. 실제로 충전 불균형은 충전 단계에서 런너 내에서 발생하는 불균일한 전단분포에 기인하여 발생되므로 점도변화에 영향을 주는 수지의 물성, 런너의 배열과 같은 외부 요인과 사출압력, 사출속도, 수지온도, 금형온도와 같은 성형공정 조건에 의한 요인에 의한 충전 불균형의 양상이 달라지게 된다. 본 연구는 다수 캐비티 금형에서 충전 불균형 현상에 대한 원인을 검토하고 실제로 사출성형을 실시하기 전 사출성형해석 소프트웨어를 이용하여 시뮬레이션을 하여 다수 캐비티에 대한 충전 패턴을 미리 예측하여 보았다.

냉간단조에 의한 헬리컬기어의 새로운 성형방법과 이의 상계해석에 관하여

  • 냉간단조에 의한 새로운 헬리컬기어 성형공정이 제시되었다. 원형봉재로 부터 헬리컬기어를 압출함에 있어서 압출압력을 계산하기 위하여 상계정리를 적용하여 수치계산하고, 수치해석 결과와 압출하려는 기어의 금형을 설계 제작하여 실험한 결과를 비교 검토하고자 한다. 이론해석상 다이형상으로 인벌류트곡선을 사용한 이론해는 실험결과와 잘 일치하였다. 그리고, 다이의 형상을 평기어부와 헬리컬기어부의 이중구조로 된 신공정이 헬리컬기어부로만 된 사만타공정과 비교해서 금형강도를 향상시킴으로써 다이수명은 증가되었고, 자동차 변속기용으로 헬리컬기어는 KS 기어급수 4~5 급의 정밀도에 해당하는 기어를 가공했다. 이는 사만타공정의 정밀도 보다 향상된 결과를 얻었다.

Synthesis of Alumina-Silica ceramic material(II) (알루미나-실리카계 세라믹복합체 제조 연구(II))

  • In this study, to improve the ballistic efficiency of very brilliant alumina-silica armor material, forming press and sintering temperature were changed. After physical/mechanical measurement, we measured ballistic properties about KE(Kinetic Energy, L/D=10.7, tungsten heavy alloy) and HEAT(High Explosive Anti-Tank, K215) projectiles and analyzed them. As a result, in $1235^{\circ}C$, it appeared the highest ballistic efficiency about HEAT and it improved $22\%$ ballistic efficiency, better than invented alumina-silica armor material before.
