Evaluation of the Prediction of B-RISK-FDS-Coupled Simulations for Multi-Combustible Fire Behavior in a Compartment (구획실 내 가연물들의 화재거동에 대한 B-RISK와 FDS 연계 화재 시뮬레이션 예측성능 평가)

  • The prediction performance of B-RISK was evaluated for the fire behaviors of combustibles in a compartment using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). First of all, to predict the heat release rate (HRR) for two combustible sets, the HRR for one combustible set and the design fire curve were used as input values for B-RISK. Comparing results of B-RISK calculations with experimental data for two combustible sets, it was found that B-RISK results predicted insufficiently for fire growth rate of experimental data but there was good agreement for maximum HRR and total HRR with the experimental data. And the B-RISK results were used for input values of FDS to evaluate the fire behaviors of B-RISK results. Comparing results of FDS calculations with experimental data, the simulation results showed that the temperature and concentrations of O2, CO2 in the fire growth phase were different from the experimental data. However, when using the B-RISK result for percentile 70%, the simulation results sufficiently predicted the overall fire behaviors.

Electrode properties of various carbon anodes containing different sizes and distributions of pores (다양한 기공 크기 및 분포를 갖는 양극 탄소의 전극 특성)

  • Differences in electrode properties and in fluorine electrolysis behaviors of various carbon anodes, which were the YBD-like grade carbon, the YBD grade carbon and the P2X grade carbon, containing different pore sizes and distributions were investigated. The evaluations were performed by measuring their mechanical properties, cyclic voltammograms and chronoamperometries in 0.5 M $K_2SO_4$ solution with 1 mM $[[Fe(CN)_6]^\;{3-}/Fe(CN)_6$] $^{4-}$ redox couple and electrochemical behaviours of fluorine electrolysis in molten KF . 2HF electrolyte at $85^{\circ}C$. It was found that the P2X grade carbon anode showed better electrode properties in the cyclic voltammogram and chronoamperometry than the other carbon anodes while the YBD-like grade carbon anode which contained the pore size of 200~300$\mu$m showed superior electrode properties for fluorine electrolysis to the others. These differences in the electrode properties of various carbon anodes seemed to be owing to different sizes and distributions of pores on their surfaces.

Forecasting for the Demand on Water Amenity Zones in the Large Rivers Based on Regional Characteristics and Monthly Variation (지역 특성 및 월간 변화를 고려한 대하천 수변 친수지구 이용수요 예측)

  • It is suggested investigating method about the existing state of demand in this study. The total demand of 357 water amenity zones in 2014 is estimated based on the growth curve models. The effects of population density and distances between water amenity zones and metropolises populated over 1 million are investigated on each river system. The suitability like RMSE and MAPE of logistic and gompertz models are considered to select more suitable model for each water amenity zone. Demand for water amenity zones in 2014 is seemed to be rather high at Han Gang river system and Chungcheongbukdo after analyzing. The influence of population density is rarely effective except Geum Gang river system. The influence of metropolis on the demand for water amenity zones is higher at Geum Gang river system than others.

  • This study introduced speical characteristics of an epidemiologic study on blood pressure and compared several statistical methods for evaluating the tracking phenomenon of blood pressure for Korean children. While correlation coefficients adjusted for measurement error are commonly used for the evaluation of tracking, it is hard to interpretate the results when correlation functions for lag-difference are not monotonous. McMahan defined a tracking as maintenance of relative rank over time and calculated tracking index usng growth curve model. The tracking index in McMahan's model is complicate to calculate, and it is hard to determine the degree of growth curve parameter. Blomqvist showed the relationship between the rate of change and the initial value. This concept could be extended for the evaluation of tracking. However, it is not so easy to interpretate the estimates in his model when those are non-positive.

  • We have analyzed electrical characteristics of the amorphous $MgTiO_3$thin films deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique with the temperature of 400~$500^{\circ}C$. The electrical characteristics of $MgTiO_3$films heavily depend on the deposition temperature. We speculate that the density of anomalous positive charge (APC) substantially increases as the deposition temperature lowers, causing the HF C-V curves shift to the direction of the negative gate voltage. We further observed that both the degree of C-V shift as a function of the deposition temperature and the density of APC were minimized by the use of $SiO_2$with thickness of approximately 100 $\AA$ between $MgTiO_3$films and the Si substrate.

Task-Specific Influences of Robotics on Manufacturing Jobs (제조업 일자리의 과업 특성에 따른 로봇의 차별적인 고용 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This research examines the impact of robotics integration on job dynamics in the U.S. manufacturing sector, adding to the critical dialogue on technological evolution and the future of jobs. Anchored in the task-model framework, the study hypothesizes that robotic integration exerts differential influences on diverse occupational clusters, each identified by their unique task-specific attributes. An in-depth examination was undertaken to elucidate the interplay between robotic integration and the occupation clusters. Employing a multilevel growth curve model, our empirical investigation tracked employment dynamics from 2012 to 2022 across 52 U.S. regions, covering 307 manufacturing occupations. The findings suggest a pronounced job decline within occupations necessitating manual dexterity. Nonetheless, the evidence does not conclusively support that the extent of robotics integration exacerbates this trend. These findings imply that the employment shifts in the U.S. manufacturing sector are predominantly driven by long-standing trends of deindustrialization and functional specialization, rather than by the recent diffusion of robotic technologies.

Estimation of growth curve parameters and analysis of year effect for body weight in Hanwoo (한우의 성장곡선의 모수추정과 연도별 효과 분석)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the genetic characteristics of growth stages in Hanwoo, to provide useful information in farm management decisions. Data were taken from the nucleus herds of three farms, Namwon, Daegwalyong and Seosan, comprising 27,647 cows, 14,744 bulls, and 1,290 steers in between 1980 and 2004. According to the growth curve by year, the residuals for cows and bulls were 68.49 and 54.29, respectively, under the Gompertz model. The values were lower than in other years. Parameters, A, b and k were estimated as 423.6±5.8, 2.387±0.064 and 0.0908±0.0033 in cows and 823.3±15.3, 3.584±0.070, 0.1139±0.0032 in bulls, respectively. The fitness was higher under the Gompertz model than under the logistic model: monthly and daily estimation for cows were 379.3±7.509, 2.499±0.057, 0.114±0.0045 and 367.1±1.9003, 2.3983±0.012, 0.004±0.00003, respectively. Estimated residual mean squares were 31.85 and 998.4 in their respective models. Monthly and daily estimation of bulls were 834.6±22.00, 3.319±0.062, 0.104±0.0037 and 796.0±6.128, 3.184±0.014, 0.003±0.00003, respectively. Estimated residual mean square were 66.18 and 2106.5. Monthly and daily estimation of steers were 1049.1±144.2, 3.024±0.008, 0.067±0.0096 and 1505.1±176.6, 2.997±0.067, 0.001±0.0001, relatively. Squares, 186.0 and 1119.1. In terms of growth characteristic estimated by Gompertz model, body weight for cows and bulls were 139.53kg and 307.03kg, and the daily gains were 0.52kg and 1.04kg, respectively. Body weight for steers was 385.94kg at the inflection point. Body weight gain was 0.84kg in both models. Our results showed that cows had lower mature weight and daily weight gain, and reached the inflection point earlier than bulls or steers.

  • Thermoluminescent properties of $Li_2B_4O_7$ single crystal grown by Czochralski method have been investigated. The high quality $Li_2B_4O_7$ single crystal without core was obtained at rotation speed of 10 rpm for seed crystal and pulling speed below $0.18\;mm{\cdot}h^{-1}$. The structure of $Li_2B_4O_7$ single crystal was classified as tetragonal by XRD analysis. The TL glow curve was composed with three overlapped peaks which can be easily deconvoluted and the TL response of $Li_2B_4O_7$ single crystal TLD to X-ray radiation is linear within the range of $50\;mGy{\sim}1.5\;Gy$. Activation energies of three TL glow peaks analyzed by the various heating rates method and PL spectrum were 0.93, 1.78 and 2.25 eV, respectively.

A Study on Growth Behavior of Small Fatigue Crack in 304 Stainless Steel at Elevated Temperatures (고온하 304 스테인레스강의 작은 표면구열의 성장거동에 관한 연구)

  • Rotating bending fatigue tests of an authentic steel 304 were performed at various temperatures such as room temperature, $538^{\circ}$ and $593^{\circ}C$. The plastic replica method was also applied in order to estimate the fatigue life on the basis of serial observation of small fatigue crack initiation and growth on the pit specimen surface. The fatigue crack growth behavior of 304 stainless steel was investigated within the frame work of elastic-plastic fracture mechanics within a narrow scatterband in spite of different stress levels at elevated temperature as at room temperature. The growth law of small surface crack is determined uniquely by the term. $\DELTA\sigma^{n}a$ where $\DELTA\sigma$ is the stress amplitude, a is the crack length, and n is a constant. It is found that the small crack growth behavior is basically equivalent to the S-$N_{f}$ relationship, where S and $N_{f}$ are stress and number of cycles to failure, and the fatigue life prediction is in good agreement with the experimental results.

Analysis of Fatigue Crack Growth in a Viscoelastic Material using ${\Delta}J$-integral (${\Delta}J$-적분을 이용한 점탄성 재료의 피로균열 성장분석)

  • In this paper, ${\Delta}J$-integral is used to analyze fatigue crack growth of viscoelastic material. Using analytical integral value, the J-integral is calculated. So, reduction of calculation time and increase of accuracy are made possible. The stress intensity factor is calculated using the finite element method code. In difference with existed fatigue crack analysis using ${\Delta}K$, we were successfully able to analyze various load amplitude and the fatigue crack of load cycle only with two fatigue crack growth parameters and creep compliance. The analysis gives N-${\alpha}$ curve for simulation of crack growth, and the curve almost corresponds with test results.
