  • The purpose of this paper is to extract the vowel formants of the ten young male speakers from the Buckeye Corpus of Conversational Speech [1] and to analyze them in comparison to earlier works in terms of various phonetic factors that are expected to affect the realization of the formant distribution. The first two formant frequency values were automatically extracted with a Praat script along with such factors as the place of articulation, the content versus function word information, syllabic stress information, the location in a word, location in utterance, speech rate of three consecutive words, and the word frequency in the corpus. The results indicated that the formant patterns from the corpus were very different from those of earlier works although the overall pattern was similar and that the factors were strongly responsible for the realization of the two formants. • From April 9th to May 4th 2007, making a random selection of three private dental clinics in Busan, this study investigated the fear for dental treatment for 178 adults over twenty. Using four items of General Characteristics and DFS of twenty items, the degree of fear for dental treatment was evaluated by self administrated questionnaire. The obtained results were as follows. 1. Reliability analysis of each factor in details was 0.662~0.921 in Cronbach' alpha Coefficients. For Cronbach' alpha Coefficients was over 0.6. Dental Fear Survey Scale was reliable. 2. Dental stimulus response scale of three factors appeared more fear than two factors of the rest. The fear for dental treatment was higher in wemen, older ages, high education level and high income. 3. Factor of dental stimulus response scale, avoidance of dentistry and physiologic response scale accounted for 66.1%($R^2=66.1$)of the variation in dental fear factor as a result from stepwise regression analysis.

  • The Mechanisms of whole body vibration on the human body is not clearly presented despite of the research result and there is not enough research that shows the effects of vibration on the kinetic changes of the lower joint. Therefore, this study focuses on finding out which lower joint is related with kinetic vertical jump ability. Five male and five female who didn't have orthopedic history were selected as the subjects. The subjects carried out three squat jumps before and after 5minutes of 30Hz whole body vibration. We have utilized a 3D motion analysis system to analyze the kinetic changes of the lower joint in the vertical jump. The height of subjects squat jump was improved after whole body vibration treatment. Also, the lower joint moment and power increased. However, there were no statistically significant changes in GRF, hip joint moment and power after the whole body vibration proved to have positive effect on the ankle and knee joints but showed negative effect on the hip joint.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors related in an urban resident's drinking state and drinking problem. Methods: The data was collected from Oct. 2008 to Sep. 2009. Data were collected by questionaire from 359 urban resident over 20 years old and drinking experience residing. The instruments for this study were the alcohol use disorder identification test(AUDIT), the related factors of alcohol drinking. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, hierarchical multiple regression with the SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The problem drinking were 35.7% on AUDIT. (a) Male had significant effect on drinking problem; (b) If you drank alcohol for the first time prior to high school graduation had significant effect on drinking problem; (c) Permanent rental or unlicensed residential had significant effect on drinking problem; (d) Experience in drunk driving had significant effect on drinking problem. Conclusion: It is nessary to education at early childhood for the prevention of drinking problems and regular management for high risk.

  • The purposes of this study is examining a wearing tendency of a progressive multifocal lens. We measured refractive error values using subjective and objective refraction method with subjects in 40-65 ages. Also, we investigated and analyzed distribution of addition power and wearing tendency of progressive multifocal lens. Detected addition powers were ranged of +0.75D - +3.00D. In case of average addition, they were detected with +1.18D in 40's, +1.55D - +1.97D in 50's and +2.38D in above 61's age. The distributions of visual ability at a distant were measured that the hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism 43%, the myopia and myopic astigmatism characteristic astigmatism 7% appeared highly with 36%. The male who uses the interior aspect multi focal lens with the short-range work were appeared the male 20%, the woman 19%.

  • Metabolic syndrome has been known as a major factor of cardiovascular disease. Several metabolic disorders, particularly chronic disease is complex, and from individuals that appear in our country, the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome is increasing gradually. Therefore, this study, using a multi-factor dimensionality reduction method, checks the major single risk factor of metabolic syndrome and suggests a new diagnosis results of metabolic syndrome. Data of 3990 adults who responded to all the questionnaires of health interview are used from the database of the 5th Korea national health and nutrition examination survey conducted in 2010. As the result, the most dangerous single risk factor for metabolic syndrome was waist circumference and the most dangerous combination factors were waist circumference, triglyceride, and hypertension. This is the result of a new diagnosis of the metabolic syndrome. Especially, waist circumference, low HDL-cholesterol and hypertension were the most dangerous combination for male. In particular, the combination of waist circumference, triglyceride and diabetes was dangerous for obese people.

  • In this paper, human exposure of wireless devices was analyzed for various positions of the transmitter. The scenario for the position of the transmitting antenna was decided after discussion with ADD(Agency for Defense Development), and Korean male phantom model developed by ETRI were used to conduct simulations. The SAR values were analyzed by changing the position of the transmitter, and compared with Korean EMF regulations and ICNIRP guidelines. Additionally, human exposure was also investigated for two typical postures which can be posed by war-fighter.

  • This study examines the perceptions on work-family balance and compares the differences of diverse groups in Korea. The success of work-family policies depends on employees' perceptions of both the tangible and intangible aspects of work-family supportiveness. A survey was conducted to produce a instrument that could measure the perceptions of work-family balance. The survey is a conducted random sample, with random selection of respondents who are working and over the age of 25 in Seoul and the metropolitan area. The research design employed ANOVA to compare the perceptions on work-family policies for supporting work-life balance in society. There was a difference in spillover levels between workers in different groups such as gender, employment status, age, the number of children, family type by employment status, company size, and industry. The findings will inform policy-makers as they continue to develop policies that positively affect working people.

  • Malignant fibrous histiocytoma rarely occurs in the jaws. Although the histogenesis of this tumor remains controversal, it is best regarded as a primitive and pleomorphic nature reflected by collagen production and occasional phagocytosis. It is common for metastatic foci to appear in lung and regional lymph node. There are variable treatments such as radiotherapy, surgical excision or combination therapy of surgical excision, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. With the review of literatures, the authors report the clinical study of two cases of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the jaw.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of scapular dynamic stabilization exercise(SDex) with electromyography(EMG) biofeedback on the upper trapezius(UT), pectoralis major(PM) and serratus anterior(SA) activities. Fifteen healthy male voluntarily participated in this study. A paired t-test was used for statistical analysis. The study showed, through EMG biofeedback, that EMG activity significantly decreased in the UT, PM and increased in the SA(P<0.05). These results suggest that SDex with EMG biofeedback is effective to selectively strengthen the SA. This article is meaningful in that it is the first article using SDex with EMG biofeedback.
