This study was carried out to investigate carcass grade of pigs according to gender, feed intake, backfat thickness, carcass weight, etc. Data from a total of 26,983 heads in 5 farms were collected. The results obtained were as follows; The difference was significantly found in carcass quality grade between barrows and gilts (p<0.001). The meat grade $1^+$ was high in gilts, but meat grade 1 was high in barrows, respectively. The carcass weight of 85.8 kg was lightly shown significantly (p<0.05) in group I taken little quantity of feed consumption. However, that of 89.5 kg was heavily shown in group IV taken plenty of feed consumption. Meat grade 2 was significantly (p<0.001) high ratio in group of backfat thickness with less than 15 mm (67.5%). However, the ratio for the grade 1 was high in group of 15~19 mm. The ratio for the meat grade 2 was highly shown in group of carcass weight with more than 85 kg (54.3%). On the other hand, that of grade 1 was highly shown in group of 78~84 kg. In conclusion, pigs for marketing to enhance high quality have been appropriately raised with the optimum system in consideration of feed intake, carcass weight, backfat thickness, etc.

Sentence repetition is a way of evaluating speech sound production to improve the limitation of word tests and spontaneous speech analysis. Speech sounds produced by children can be evaluated using several indicators. This study examined the progression of the percentage of correct consonants-revised (PCC-R) and phonological whole-word measure in different age and gender groups after setting consonants in various vowel contexts and implementing sentence repetition tasks that were designed to give all phonemes the chance to appear at least three times. For this study, 11 sentence repetition tasks were applied to 535 children aged 3 to 7 across the country, after which the resulting PCC-R and whole-word measure were analyzed. The study results showed that all the indicators improved in older age groups and there were significant differences depending on age, however, no significant differences dependent on gender were found. The sentence repetition conditions data used in this study were collected from across the country, and the age difference between each age group was six months. This study is noteworthy because it collected a sufficient amount of data from each group, highlighted the limitation of the word naming and the spontaneous speech analysis, and suggests new criteria of evaluation through the analysis of each whole-word measure in sentence repetition, which was not applied in previous studies.

The purpose of this study was to establish regression equations and probability charts for predicting the sum of mesiodistal crown diameters of unerupted unilateral canine and premolars from the sum of mesiodistal crown diameters of four mandibular incisors in Korean male and female. The plaster casts of 162 children(75 boys and 87 girls) among the contestees in 1994-2001 Healthy Dentition Contest in Seoul were measured. Sex differences are compared and the following results were obtained: 1. Bilateral comparison of sum of widths of permanent canine and premolars showed no significant differences for either sex(p>0.05). Sum of widths of permanent canine and premolars of male were significantly larger than that of female(p<0.01). 2. Regression equations for the prediction of sum of widths of permanent canine and premolars in each sex were as follows Male ${\Sigma}Maxillary$ 345 y= 10.45+0.53x Male ${\Sigma}Mandibular$ 345 : y= 10.07+0.51x Female ${\Sigma}Maxillary$ 345 : y=12.65+0.42x Female ${\Sigma}Mandibular$ 345 : y=11.70+0.42x Male+female ${\Sigma}Maxillary$ 345 y=11.01+0.50x Male+female ${\Sigma}Mandibular$ 345 : y=9.87+0.51x

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of temperament and stress coping strategies on adolescents' psychological well-being. Three hundred and ninety nine middle and high school students in Seoul participated in this study. Temperament, stress coping strategies, and psychological well-being were evaluated by self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using Cronbach's alpha, frequencies, percentiles, means, standard deviations, two-way ANOVAs, Pearson's correlations and hierarchical multiple regression analyses. The results were as follows: First, there were significant differences in psychological well-being as a function of gender and school levels. Second, temperament and stress coping strategies were related to psychological well-being in adolescents. In the sub factor of temperament, activity and persistency were positively associated with psychological well-being, whereas rigidity was negatively related to psychological well-being. Among stress coping strategies, problem-focused strategy was positively associated with psychological well-being, whereas emotion-discharge strategy and affective-regulation strategy were negatively related to psychological well-being. Third, hierarchical multiple regression revealed that problem-focused strategy and emotion-discharge strategy were influential factors in explaining the level of psychological well-being controlling for gender, school levels and temperament of the adolescents. These findings suggest that stress coping strategy should be considered to promote the level of psychological well-being of adolescents.
This study investigated what effects multiple intelligence, through which the diverse intelligence abilities of a learner are identified, has on technological problem solving ability according to sex. And it was carried out to present a way to reduce the gap between boys and girls in technological problem solving ability. The subject was 833 middle school students in the third grade (boys: 423, girls: 410) whose schools are located in a megalopolis or more large area. And the instruments developed by Yong-Lyn Moon(2001) and in CRESST(1998) were used. The results of this study are as follows. First, it appeared that there were statistically meaningful differences at six items in multiple intelligence between boys and girls. The six items were bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, naturalistic intelligence, musical intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and introspective intelligence. Second, in technological problem solving ability, it appeared that boys and girls showed statistically meaningful differences at self-regulation and problem solving strategy. Third, it appeared that logical-mathematical intelligence, linguistic intelligence, introspective intelligence, and natural intelligence had an effect on boys in the way of self-regulation and logic-mathematical intelligence, introspective intelligence, naturalistic intelligence, and linguistic intelligence did on girls. Fourth, it appeared that logical-mathematical intelligence, musical intelligence, and bodily-kinesthetic intelligence had an effect on boys in the way of problem solving ability and linguistic intelligence and musical intelligence had on girls. Fifth, it appeared that logical-mathematical intelligence did an effect on both sexes in drawing up the understanding of contents. On the basis of the results of this study, the area related to multiple intelligence directly or indirectly should be developed in the course of designing the primary and secondary curriculums to reduce the gap between boys and girls in multiple intelligence. With these efforts, the scholastic attainments gap caused by the difference of multiple intelligence will be overcome.
This study was performed to develop the molecular marker for sex determination of hare (Lepus coreanus) distributed in Korea which focused on sexual dimorphism between X and Y chromosomal homologous genes, zinc finger-X (ZFX) and -Y (ZFY). The intron 7 regions of ZFX and ZFY genes exhibited differential amplification patterns between male and female hares. The lengths of intron 7 region of ZFX and ZFY genes were 538 and 233-bp, respectively. Especially, the ZFX intron 7 contained a repetitive sequence identified as member of RNA-mediated transposable elements which was similar to CSINE2 commonly found in the rabbit genome. However, it was not present in intron 7 of ZFY gene. The molecular sex typing by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was also carried out to determine the sex of hare based on difference in lengths between the intron 7 regions of ZFX and ZFY genes. All DNA samples tested had common band amplified from ZFX. However, the male hare DNAs had two distinct bands which amplified from ZFX and ZFY genes, respectively. The results from ZFX-ZFY PCR sex typing were identical to those from phenotypic investigation and from amplification patterns using male-specific sex determining region Y (SRY) gene as well. Finally, this study suggested that the sexual dimorphism between intron 7 regions of ZFX and ZFY could be useful genetic marker to determine sex of hare.

The purpose of this study is to redefine 7 social exclusion factors and to derive association between social exclusion factors and depression of middle and older elderly, focused on gender differences. The elderly aged over 50 years old were extracted from the data of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA) in 2016. The data was analyzed by descriptive analysis, chi-squared test, and binary logistic regression analysis, using SAS 9.4. As a result, the elderly who were excluded from labor, residence, health, and relationship were found to be associated to depression. In addition, male with resident exclusion were associated with depression compared to non-excluded. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the local community programs in which elderly people can participate in labor and cultural activity. It is necessary to improve labor and culture exclusion by increasing the participation opportunities of various cultural programs. In addition, it is needed to establish specific guidelines for eliminating the social exclusion of overall elderly.
This study sought to investigate whether mean speaking fundamental frequency (SFF) can be predicted by parameters of voice and speech range profile (VRP and SRP) in Korean normal adults. Moreover, it explored whether gender differences exist in the absolute differences between the SFF and estimated SFF (ESFF) predicted by the VRP and SRP. A total of 85 native Korean speakers with normal voice participated in the study. Each participant was asked to perform the VRP task using the vowel /a/ and the SRP task using the first sentence of a Korean standard passage "Ga-eul". In addition, the SFF was measured with electroglottography during a passage reading task. Predictive factors of the SFF were explored and the absolute difference between the SFF and the ESFF (DSFF) was compared between gender groups. Results indicated that predictive factors were age, gender, minimum pitch and pitch range for the VRP (adjusted $R^2=.931$), and pitch range (in semi-tones) and maximum pitch for the SRP (adjusted $R^2=.963$), respectively. The SFF and ESFF predicted by the VRP and SRP showed a strong positive correlation. The DSFF of the VRP and SRP, as well as their sum did not differ by gender. In conclusion, the SFF during a passage reading task could be successfully predicted by the parameters of the VRP and SRP tasks. In further studies, clinical implications need to be explored in patients who may exhibit deviations in SFF.
