The effectiveness of a new fiber-steel composite plate designed specifically to be used for strengthening of reinforced concrete members has been investigated. Twelve reinforced concrete beams were tested. Seven of the beams were strengthened with carbon fiber-steel composite plate(CSP), four of the beams were strengthened with glass fiber-steel composite plate(GSP), and one beam was used as a control specimen. The experimental results showed that new strengthening system controls the premature debonding and provides a more ductile failure mode than other conventional strengthening systems. The observed ductility ratios were $3.01\sim3.81$ and $3.55\sim4.95$ for strengthened beam with CSP and GSP, respectively. The maximum load was increased by 115% and 107% for strengthened beam with CSP and GSP, respectively, comparing with control beam. In addition, experimental and analytical results were well agreed.
To investigate the flexural behavior of RC beams strengthened with glass fiber sheets, 1 control beam and 8 strengthened beams (4 NU-beams without U-shaped band and 4 U-beams with U-shaped band) are tested. The variables of experiment are composed of the number of glass fiber sheets and the existence of U-shaped band, etc. The maximum load was increased by 48% and 34%, and the flexural rigidity by 920% and 880% for NU-beam and U-beam, respectively, compared with those of the control beam. The ductility ratios were 1.43$\sim$2.60 for NU-beam and U-beam. The experimental results showed that the strengthening system with U-shaped band controls the premature debonding and provides a more ductile failure mode than the strengthening system without U-shaped band. It can be found from the load-deflection curves that as the number of fiber sheets is increased, the maximum strength and the flexural rigidity is increased. The experimental results are compared with the analytical results of nonlinear flexural behaviors for strengthened RC beam. The experimental and analytical results were well agreed.

Uniaxial compression tests for ultra-high performance hybrid steel fiber reinforced concrete (UHPC) were performed to evaluate the compressive behavior of UHPC. The UHPC for testing contains hybrid steel fibers with a predetermined ratio using a length of 19 mm and 16 mm straight typed steel fibers. Test parameter was determined as a fiber volume ratio to investigate the effect of fiber volume ratio on the strength and secant modulus of elasticity. Test results showed that the compressive strength and elastic modulus of UHPC increased with increasing the fiber volume ratio. Based on the test results, the compressive strength and modulus of elasticity equations were proposed as function of the compressive strength of unreinforced and fiber reinforced UHPC, respectively. The simplified equations for predicting the mechanical properties of the UHPC were a good agreement with the test data. The proposed equations are expected to be applied to the SFRC and UHPC with steel fibers.
Organic fiber reinforced concrete is applicable to many applications for construction material. In general, organic fibers have low tensile strength and elastic modulus, but they have many advantages such as high crack resistance, impact resistance, chemical resistance, flexural behavior and corrosion resistance. In this study, hybrid organic fibers were prepared by mixing polyamide (PA) fibers and high strength polyester (PET) fibers. Then, flexural performance test of fiber reinforced concrete containing hybrid organic fiber was performed. The energy absorption capacity of the hybrid organic fiber reinforced concrete was evaluated.

Short discrete fibers compounded with concrete can enhance the tensile resistance and ductility of concrete. Recently, the effectiveness of the reinforcement has increased according to the increasing length of steel fiber. However, the lengthening of steel fiber requires reducing the ratio of the fiber content to remain the workability and quality of concrete. Thus, the present study evaluated the flexural performance of fiber reinforced concrete with less than l.0% fiber volume ratios of steel fiber, 30mm and 60mm long, and polypropylene fiber, being evaluated as a good reinforcing material with chemical stability, long-term durability, and cost effectiveness. Concrete with more than 0.25% steel and 0.5% polypropylene fibers improved the brittle failure of concrete after reaching cracking strength. Concrete reinforced with polypropylene exhibited deflection-softening behavior, but that with more than 0.5% polypropylene delayed stress reduction and recovered flexural strength by 60 to 80% after cracking strength. In conclusion, concrete reinforced with more than 0.75% polypropylene could improve structural flexural performance. In particular, energy absorption capacity of reinforced concrete with 1.0% polypropylene fiber was similar to that with 0.5% and 0.7% steel fibers.

There has been a growing interest in thick composite materials especially for primary structures. Fiber waviness is one of the manufacturing defects frequently encountered in thick composite structures and affects the mechanical properties such as stiffness and strength significantly. Therefore, nondestructive evaluation technique that can detect fiber waviness of thick composite is very important for the integrity of structures. In this study, efforts were made to understand ultrasonic wave propagation in thick composites with uniform fiber waviness by adopting the ray and plane wave theories. Both theoretical and experimental investigations were conducted to understand the wave propagation in thick composites with uniform fiber waviness. The experiments were conducted on specially fabricated thick composite specimens with various degrees of uniform fiber waviness using the conventional through-transmission method to verify the predicted results. The experimental results showed good agreement with the theoretical predictions.

This study was performed to evaluate the flexural behavior of Hybrid fiber sheet (HFC) and Hybrid fiber bar (HFB) strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams. According to test results, Hybrid fiber reinforcement strengthened RC beams showed approximately 60 to 200% higher reinforcing effects than that of un-reinforced specimens. In addition, the reinforced beams showed the ideal failure pattern, which is failed presenting the ductile behavior after yielding of the reinforcing bar. More specifically, in the case of HFB reinforced RC beams, the difference with puttying method was not apparent since HFB beams reinforced using the injection of epoxy and bonding of putty showed the similar failure patterns.
Oxidized-PAN fiber reinforced composite(OFRP), carbon fiber reinforced composite(CFRP), aramid fiber reinforced composite(AFRP), and glass fiber reinforced composite(GFRP) were fabricated with phenolic resin matrix by hot press molding. We tested the friction coefficient and wear rate varying with fiber weight fraction and observed the effect of fibers according to characteristics of individual reinforcement. When the amount of aramid fiber was 45wt%, average friction coefficient was maximum value of 0.353~0.383, where as, when the amount of pitch based carbon fiber was 45wt%, average friction coefficient was the lowest value of 0.164~0.190. The wear rate of AFRP and CFRP was low, but that of GFRP and OFRP increases drastically in the case of increasing of fiber weight fraction. Wear diagram of OFRP was unstable, but that of CFRP and AFRP was a bit stable. Through very unstable diagram of GFRP, we found that friction stability of GFRP was the lowest.

This paper investigates experimentally the confining effect, strengthening capacity and rebound rate of sprayed Fiber-Reinforced-Polymer (SFRP). From the method, resin and chopped fibers are sprayed separately from the nozzle with high pressure, and then they are attached to the concrete surface, so structure could be repaired. To evaluate the strengthening effect of sprayed FRP, cylindrical specimens and beam specimens were strengthening with SFRP. As main material of FRP, glass fiber and polyester resin are used. To investigate the optimum condition of sprayed FRP, the effects of fiber length, coating thickness, fiber volume ratio and concrete strength were examined. Capacities of sprayed FRP method were also compared to the FRP sheet method. In case of the sprayed FRP, rebound rate is important parameter considering economical efficiency and constructibility, so rebound rate of was discussed. From the test results, optimum conditions of sprayed FRP were determined. SFRP method showed superior strengthening capacities than FRP sheet method.
