A study on the behavior of the piston with orifice hole in the cylinder of a gas spring (가스스프링 실린더내의 오리피스 홀을 갖는 피스톤 거동에 관한 연구)

  • A gas-spring has been used in many areas and its use is increasing because it can be designed for a range of purposes. In this study, the behavior of a piston with an orifice hole inside the gas-spring cylinder was predicted using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The piston was designed to reduce the reaction force if the gas-spring is compressed and to move at a low speed when it is returned. The analysis showed that if the initial gas pressure in the gas-spring is increased to a certain level, the speed of the piston would not decrease with time but will remain constant. The effects of orifice hall size on the piston return speed were investigated. Reducing the size of the orifice hole will increase the pressure difference on both sides of the piston, reduce the piston speed, and make it more constant. On the assumption of a constant speed of the piston, a theoretical solution to the return speed of the piston was derived according to the initial gas pressure, and the results for several initial gas pressures were compared with those of CFD. Comparison studies showed similar results for both methods.

Numerical Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Pavements Subjected to Transverse Post Tensioning (횡방향 긴장에 의한 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 포장의 거동분석)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the stress distribution in the prestressed concrete pavement (PSCP) when the transverse post tensioning was applied. By performing the structural analyses using a finite element model of PSCP, the effect of anchor spacing and the relationship between the longitudinal and transverse post tensioning were evaluated. The analysis results showed that as the anchor spacing became smaller, the stresses were more uniformly distributed and the ranges of the stress losses were reduced; however, the economy should be considered. As the anchor spacing became larger, the difference between the average transverse stress and the transverse stresses at various locations such as shoulder, wheel pass, and center of the slab, increased. The transverse post tensioning induced the additional tensile forces in the longitudinal tendons, but the magnitude was negligibly small, and the longitudinal and transverse post tensioning could be designed independently. The use of the transverse stress distribution for the design of the post tensioning was also discussed in this paper.

  • 복합분자펌프는 기존의 터보분자펌프 turbine blade에 spiral grooved를 추가하여 초고진공(10-8 Pa)에서 저진공(330Pa)까지 넓은 압력범위에서 사용할 수 있고 이 펌프를 사용함으로서 완전 oil free한 진공시스템을 만들 수 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 특히, 회전체를 비접촉으로 지지하는 자기베어링 방식을 적용함으로써, 진동은 극히 작고 베어링수명은 길면서 중저진공에 대한 배기속도가 크고 임의의 방향으로 접속이 가능하여 반도체 및 디스플레이 제조 공정과 같은 첨단산업의 다양한 분야에 쉽게 적용되고 있으며, 그 적용 분야와 시장은 계속 성장하고 있다. 고 진공과 배기 속도의 달성을 위해서, 고속으로 이동하는 격면과 기체분자를 충돌시켜, 기체 분자를 원하는 방향으로 유도하는 작동원리를 가지고 있다. 특히 공기분자의 밀도가 매우 낮은 희박가스 상태에서 고속 회전하는 blade로 공기분자를 쳐 내면서 작동됨으로써 날개의 상하 압력차에 의한 공기력보다도 날개의 고속회전이 매우 중요시 되고 압력으로는 10-1 Pa 이하의 분자영역에서 그 성능을 최고로 발휘 할 수 있다. 이러한 복합 펌프의 주요 장점은 다음과 같다. 1. 10-8 Pa (10-10torr)~10 Pa (1 torr) 까지 넓은 영역에서 배기가 가능하다. 2. 탄화수계의 대하여 높은 압축특성을 가지고 있고, 윤활유를 사용하지 않으므로 얻을 수 있는 진공상태가 고청정하다(oil free). 3. 정밀 5축제어 자기베어링으로 완전히 부상하여 회전함으로서 마모가 없고 진동이 최소화하였을 뿐만 아니라, 또한 운전음도 거의 없다. 4. 설치조건에 제한이 없고 고장이 거의 없다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 복합분자펌프의 개발을 위하여, 상기 연구기관에서 수행된 내용을 소개하고 있으며, 펌프 시스템의 기본 설계 및 자기베어링 시스템의 설계 결과 및 수치해석 결과를 나타내었다.

Simplifed Method for Estimating Energy-Dissipation Capacity of Flexure-Dominant RC Members (휨지배 철근콘크리트 부재의 에너지소산성능 평가 방법)

  • As advanced earthquake analysis/design methods such as the nonlinear static analysis are developed, it is required to estimate precisely the cyclic behavior of reinforced concrete members that is characterized by strength, deformability, and capacity of energy dissipation. However, currently, estimation of energy dissipation depends on empirical equations that are not sufficiently accurate, or experiment and sophisticated numerical analysis which are difficult to use in practice.0 the present study, nonlinear finite element analysis was performed to investigate the behavioral characteristics of flexure-dominant RC members under cyclic load. The effects of axial force, arrangement of reinforcing bars, and reinforcement ratio on the cyclic behavior were studied. Based on the investigation, a simplified method to estimate the capacity of energy dissipation was proposed, and it was verified by the comparison with the finite element analyses and experiments. The proposed method can estimate the energy dissipation of RC members more precisely than currently used empirical equations, and it is easily applicable in practice.

Development of a Direct-Connected Supersonic Combustor Test Facility (직결형 초음속 연소기 시험 설비 개발)

  • A direct-connected, continuous type combustion test facility was developed to test a supersonic combustor model used in scramjet engines. The facility requirements were determined by assuming the flight speed of Mach 5, yielding the combustor inlet flow speed of Mach 2. Also the cross-section of the supersonic combustor under test was assumed as $32mm{\times}70mm$. As a result, the facility was designed to have the flow total pressure of 548 kPaA, total temperature of 1,320 K, and flow rate of 0.776 kg/s. The facility consists of a turbo type air compressor, electric air heater, vitiation air heater and a two dimensional facility nozzle to accelerate the flow to Mach 2. Also, an oxygen supply system was added to compensate the vitiation. The exhaust de-pressurization system is not added. Designed pressure, temperature, and flow rate were verified through the test operation of the facility.

VLSI Design of DWT-based Image Processor for Real-Time Image Compression and Reconstruction System (실시간 영상압축과 복원시스템을 위한 DWT기반의 영상처리 프로세서의 VLSI 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a VLSI structure of real-time image compression and reconstruction processor using 2-D discrete wavelet transform and implement into a hardware which use minimal hardware resource using ASIC library. In the implemented hardware, Data path part consists of the DWT kernel for the wavelet transform and inverse transform, quantizer/dequantizer, the huffman encoder/huffman decoder, the adder/buffer for the inverse wavelet transform, and the interface modules for input/output. Control part consists of the programming register, the controller which decodes the instructions and generates the control signals, and the status register for indicating the internal state into the external of circuit. According to the programming condition, the designed circuit has the various selective output formats which are wavelet coefficient, quantization coefficient or index, and Huffman code in image compression mode, and Huffman decoding result, reconstructed quantization coefficient, and reconstructed wavelet coefficient in image reconstructed mode. The programming register has 16 stages and one instruction can be used for a horizontal(or vertical) filtering in a level. Since each register automatically operated in the right order, 4-level discrete wavelet transform can be executed by a programming. We synthesized the designed circuit with synthesis library of Hynix 0.35um CMOS fabrication using the synthesis tool, Synopsys and extracted the gate-level netlist. From the netlist, timing information was extracted using Vela tool. We executed the timing simulation with the extracted netlist and timing information using NC-Verilog tool. Also PNR and layout process was executed using Apollo tool. The Implemented hardware has about 50,000 gate sizes and stably operates in 80MHz clock frequency.

Correlations Between the Physical Properties and Compression Index of KwangYang Clay (광양점토의 물리적 특성과 압축지수의 상관성)

  • The correlation equation empirically proposed to obtain compression indexes has been proposed to conveniently obtain the value using the soil parameter that can be obtained through simple tests when the number of time of consolidation testing is low or the distribution is large but most of the analyzed regions are limited to certain regions abroad or in the country and multiple data were integrated for use in many cases, thus it is not very reasonable to apply it. Therefore, to establish a new design method considering the uncertainty of the ground, it was selected the Kwangyang port area of which the data have been collected recently thus are relatively more reliable as the subject region of the study in order to maximally reduce the uncertainty of test data. After performing the verification of the normality of the consolidation test data obtained from the selected region and the transformation of variables, a prediction formula was proposed through the regression model with the transformed variables and the proposed regression model with transformed variables was compared with existing empirical equations to verify the suitability of the proposed model formula. After analyzing, it was confirmed that the coefficient of determination was increased after the Box-Cox variable transformation, thus the explanatory power was being enhanced and through the root-mean-square-error method, it was confirmed that the proposed model formula showed the most closed value to the test value.

A Study on the Experiment of Represtressed Preflexional Composite Beams (RPF 합성보의 실험 연구)

  • The conventional preflex beams are designed by the method of paritial prestressing and allow the tensile stresses at the lower concrete of beams. As a consequence, most of preflex beams experience the tensile cracks under the service loads. This study was conducted to develop the most effective preflex beams, which do not allow tensile stress under the service load, by introducing additional prestressing called 'represtressing' at the lower concrete of beams. The objective of the study was accomplished by developing a computer analysis and design program and conducting experiments. Using the developed computer program, standard sections of the represtressed preflex beams were determined by computer modeling. In the experiment, two actual size of represtressed beams were tested under the imitated service loads. The results of test have shown that the performance of the represtressed preflex beams is generally excellent. A remarkable improvement was made in the design of preflex composite beams. Since the represtressed preflex beams(RPF) do not experience the tensile cracks under the service loads, the use of this beam for the bridge structures will lead to easy bridge maintenance and management. Furthermore, due to the low beam depth, high clearance and economical design can be realized in the bridge design using RPF.

Development of a New Commercial Grain Cooler (곡물냉각기의 개발)

  • The objectives of this study were to develop a new commercial grain cooler suited to domestic weather and post-harvesting conditions for paddy, and to evaluate the performance. A prototype grain cooler capable of cooling paddy of 200 tons within 24 hours was developed. The grain cooler was designed to control the refrigeration capacity from 0 to 100% by controlling the capacity of compressor with unloading solenoid valve and by changing the flow rates of hot refrigerant gas flowing into reheater and evaporator from compressor. And a controller with one chip microprocessor was developed to control temperature and relative humidity of cooling air. The maximum cooling capacity of the grain cooler was 35,284㎉/hr at condensing/evaporating pressure of 16.5/3.6 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Maximum flow rate of cooling air was 120 ㎥/min at static pressure of 279 mmAq. The total maximum required power was 22.8㎾, and total required energy was saved from 26.7 to 33.3% of maximum power depending on operating conditions. The coefficient of performance of refrigeration devices and total coefficient of performance of the grain cooler were 4.71 and 1.8, respectively.

Local Buckling Behavior of Stub H-shaped Columns Fabricated with HSA800 High Performance Steels under Concentric Axial Loading (중심압축력을 받는 건축구조용 고성능강(HSA800) 용접H형 단주의 국부좌굴거동)

  • In this study, the local buckling behavior of steel built-up columns, fabricated with grade 800MPa high performance (HSA800), was investigated to verify the suitability of width-to-thickness ratio limits adopted by the current design code. For this purpose, an experimental program was designed and performed for HSA800 steel column specimens with various width-to-thickness ratios. Then the experimental results were compared and verified with finite element analysis results. The parametric analytical studies with various width-to-thickness ratios were also performed to investigate the missing data from the limited experimental studies. From the experimental and analytical studies, It was found that the finite analysis models could reasonably estimate the test results within the 5.3% average differences. The local buckling behaviors of HSA800 steel columns were found to be largely depend on the values of initial imperfection introduced into finite element analyses.
