Launch Environment Test and Evaluation of Fuel Feeding Unit for Electric Propulsion System to Small-Satellite Applications (소형위성용 전기추진시스템을 위한 연료공급부의 발사환경 시험평가)

  • A Fuel Feeding Unit of electric propulsion system has been developed for the small-satellite applications. The fuel feeding unit stores the xenon gas with high pressure and density as a fuel. Xenon can affect to system stability since xenon has the transient condition under the critical point which is in ambient temperature on the launch environment. The functional and structural stability on the launch environment needs verification through the ground tests. The design points and verification tests of the system were discussed and test results were described on this text. The system stability on the launch environment was verified through these verification tests.

  • Fuel tanks for rotorcraft have a great influence on the survivability of crews. The philosophy of crashworthy rotorcraft design evolved from the long term effort of the US Army. US army established MIL-DTL-27422D for specifying detail requirements related to crash resistant fuel tank especially for military rotorcraft to prevent post crash fire which is the greatest threat to life in rotorcraft crash. Crashworthiness of the rotorcraft fuel tank could be guaranteed through the crash impact tests which are specified in the MIL-DTL-27422D. Fuel tanks for Korea Helicopter Program have been developed and tested according to MIL-DTL-27422D with minor modifications of flexible fittings. The present study shows some results of the mandatory crash impact tests of the fuel tanks to verify their performances.

A Study on the Determination of Construction Depth of Vertical Drain by Cone Resistance (콘 관입저항치를 이용한 수직배수재 타설심도 결정에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, piezocone penetration test is frequently used in order to estimate the characteristics of soft ground with standard penetration test; generally used in the past In this study, standard penetration test, piezocone penetration test, driving resistance of vertical drain were used in order to increase the confidence for determination of soft ground depth. And the compressible layer was determined by the comparison between the preconsolidation pressure and the designed increase pressure. As the results, the relation between standard penetration test and piezocone penetration test shows $q_c$=(1.09~1.63)N at the soft ground, determined by 5/30 N value. And $q_c$(1.21~1.98)N was shown at the point of compressible layer, evaluated by the preconsolidation pressure. And driving resistance of vertical drain is 70 f/$cm^2$ which is equal to 10kgf/$cm^2$ cone penetration resistance.

Simulation of shield TBM tunneling in soft ground by laboratory model test (실내모형시험을 통한 연약지반의 쉴드 TBM 터널굴착 모사)

  • This paper presents the shield TBM technology in soft ground tunnelling. In order to perform this study, a scale model test was carried out using the developed small scaled shield TBM machine. The various instrumentations were conducted during the simulation of tunnelling. In addition, the ground behavior due to the shield TBM operation parameters was measured during the simulation. Based on the simulation results, the stability of the ground was evaluated and the fundamental shield TBM tunnelling technique in the soft ground was suggested. In conclusion, design's reliability through laboratory small scale model test about Shield-TBM section was obtained, and both the improvement plan for safety during construction and the construction plan for securing airport runway's safety during tunnel passing by Shield-TBM propulsion were suggested.

  • Evaluation of the asphalt mixture modified with crumb rubber modifier(CRM) was performed to estimate possibility of using it as a paying material. OACs(optimum asphalt content) of CRM modified asphalt mixtures by dry process and wet process were determined by Marshall mix design and Wheel tracking test and moisture susceptibility test by freezing and thawing were carried out with CRM modified asphalt mixtures at OACs. The results from these tests, resistance of permanent deformation of CRM modified asphalt mixtures were superior to one of AP-5 while showing very low resistance of moisture sensitivity by freezing and thawing. This means that CRM modified asphalt mixtures are very sensitive to freezing and thawing. However, CRM modified asphalt mixture with anti-stripping material showed high improvement to resistance of moisture susceptibility by freezing and thawing. Therefore, it is recommended that when CRM mixtures were used in domestic, CRM modified asphalt mixtures should be with prevention against freezing and thawing resistance by moisture susceptibility.

  • This study intends to evaluate of the characteristics of pavement deformation and develop the model for prediction model in the asphalt layer using a regression analysis. In test, there are two different asphalt binders and 5 different aggregate types. The air voids of hot mix asphalt are 6% and 10% for target value. Repeated triaxial compression test with 3 different confining pressures was used for test at 3 different test temperatures. It is going to verify the main parameters for permanent deformation of HMA and to develop the distress model. This paper is to figure out the factor affecting the pavement deformation, and then to develop model the pavement deformation for asphalt mixture. Also, the reliability of prediction model has been studied. The permanent deformation prediction model for asphalt mixtures with temperature, loading time, and air voids has been developed and the proposed permanent deformation prediction model has been validated by using the multiple regression approach which is called Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS).

  • The application of an adhesive calcium carbonate-based hybrid insulation board with quasi-combustibility in the external thermal insulation composite system(ETICS) ensures effective thermal performance and fire safety. This study aimed to conduct a mechanical test of the quasi-non-combustible hybrid insulation board as well as its constituent materials to obtain the basic data for the structural design of the adhesive ETICS. Test specimens were fabricated based on domestic and foreign test standards to examine and evaluate their tensile, compressive, flexural, and shear strengths. The strength characteristics of the quasi-non-combustible hybrid insulation board were identified from the test results, which verified that the minimum required physical properties suggested by the current KS M ISO 4898 were met. Furthermore, the quasi-non-combustible ETICS used in this study was found to be suitable for use as an external insulation system for walls unless subjected to continuous gravity load, such as a heavy exterior finish.

  • As the use of drilled shafts for foundation of a large size structure increases, the evaluation of the reliable bearing capacity of the pile has become important. The purpose of this study is to verify the reliability of bearing capacity equations for drilled shafts socketed in weathered rock by comparing the bearing capacity values from static load tests with values from bearing capacity equations. In this study, twelve data from static load test were selected from four field sites, and the data of load test and the properties of weathered rock were analyzed. Three methods widely used in practice were selected for analysis, namely the AASHTO method (1996), Carter & Kulhawy method (1988), and FHWA method (1999). The comparison of the bearing capacity values from the bearing capacity equations to those obtained from load tests showed that the Carter & Kulhawy method (1988) was the most reliable in giving conservative design values and smaller COV (Coefficient Of Variation).

In this study, the correlation of standard penetration test, piezocone penetration test and driving resistance of vertical drain is analyzed in order to increase the confidence for determination of soft ground depth. As the results of each zone, the relation between standard penetration test and piezocone penetration test shows qc=(1.09~1.63)N at the soft ground, determined by 5/30 N value which is decided for soft ground criteria. And qc=(1.21~1.98)N was shown at the point of compressible layer, evaluated by the preconsolidation pressure. And driving resistance of vertical drain is $65{\sim}70kgf/cm^2$ which is equal to $10kgf/cm^2$ of cone penetration resistance.

Effective Strength of 3-Dimensional Concrete Strut (3차원 콘크리트 스트럿의 유효강도)

  • For the reliable design of the structural concrete by the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes, the effective strengths of concrete struts must be determined with sufficient accuracy. Many values and equations for the effective strengths have been suggested until now. As those are for the two-dimensional concrete struts, however, it is inappropriate to employ them in the strut-tie model designs of three-dimensional structural concretes. In this study, an approach, that determines the effective strengths of three-dimensional concrete struts consistently and accurately by reflecting the state of 3-dimensional stresses, the 3-dimensional failure criteria of concrete, the degree of cracks (or tensile strains of reinforcing bars crossing the struts), the strut's longitudinal length, the deviation angle between strut orientation and compressive principal stress flow, compressive strength of concrete, and the degree of concrete confinement by reinforcing bars, is proposed. To examine the validity of the proposed approach, the ultimate strength analyses of 115 reinforced concrete pile caps tested to failure by previous investigators were conducted by the ACI 318-11's strut-tie model approach with the existing and proposed effective strengths of concrete struts.
