Development and Application of Cone Penetrometer with Impact Penetration Rod for Evaluation of Track Substructure (철도궤도 하부구조물 평가를 위한 타격식 관입 롯드가 체결된 콘 관입기의 개발 및 적용)

  • To minimize the cost of maintenance, repair and over-design of track substructure, an accurate evaluation of strength and stiffness of the track substructure is necessary. In this study, a cone penetrometer with impact penetration rod (CPI) is developed for the evaluation of track substructure. For applicability test, the chamber and field tests were performed. As the experimental results of the CPI, dynamic cone penetration endex (DCPI), cone tip resistance ($q_c$), friction resistance ($f_s$) and friction ratio (Fr) were obtained. In the chamber test, the experimental results show reasonable values for the simulated track substructure. In the field test, the CPI clearly detects the interface between the ballast and the subgrade. Also, discontinuous layers are detected in the subgrade. It is expected that the developed CPI may be an effective tool for the evaluation of track substructure by evaluating the ballast layer by dynamic penetration and the subgrade by static penetration of the inner rod.

  • The technical regulation and conformity assessment procedure of our country on ICT equipments is currently required to have more innovation due to the request of main trade countries, the second phase conclusion of MRA, necessity of expansion of conformity assessment service market and demand of manufacturers. The world's leading advanced countries have already proceeded with innovation based on privatization plan. According to the comparative analysis of the level, it turned out that Japan obtained the highest level of privatization while South Korea ranked the lowest level. According to the research result of examination and certification ability of private institutions of our country, it turned out that our country is expected to have possibility of achieving higher level of privatization than that of the present. Moreover, according to the questionnaire survey conducted to the persons concerned regarding privatization direction, they gave positive response to all the indicated survey contents of privatization direction in terms of "delegation of certification services to private sectors (contracting-out)", "transformation of EMC into private voluntary standard" and "changeover of conformity assessment agent". However, from the view of acceptance and conflict model, it is estimated that starting from "delegation of certification services to private sectors (contracting-out)" seems to be the most advisable plan. Also, prior to privatization, it is required to improve relevant systems such as certification examiner system.

Effects of Vinyl Chloride to Human Health and Aquatic Ecosystems (염화비닐(Vinyl Chloride)의 인체 및 수생태계 영향 연구)

  • Vinyl chloride (VC) is a known human carcinogen, and it is released to multi-environmental media via several exposure routes. VC was potentially evaluated as a water quality pollutant based on human health risk assessment in Korean water environments. In this study, we investigated physicochemical and toxicological properties of VC, human health and ecological risk assessment, and the regulation of VC as a water quality pollutant in developed countries. Currently there are no standard or guideline values of VC in Korean legal system for the protection of human health and aquatic ecosystem, except that it is designated as a specific toxic substance and a water quality pollutant. Human health risk assessment of VC was previously performed based on the limited water quality monitoring data. The monitoring level of VC in Korean water system is more higher than other countries'. VC was assessed as potential hazardous chemical based on the US EPA's cancer risk assessment. There were a few ecotoxicity data of VC available using very limited kinds of aquatic organisms, and the toxicity results obtained seem to be overestimated without considering the losses of VC in open exposure system. Therefore it is needed to monitor the VC in various areas and to carry out the ecotoxicity research using multi-level organisms. We expect that these results can be useful information for implementing VC as a water quality pollutant in legal system for the protection of human health and aquatic ecosystem in near future.

Evaluation for Deformability of RC Members Failing in Bond after Flexural Yielding (휨항복 후 부착파괴하는 철근콘크리트 부재의 부착 연성 평가)

  • A general earthquake resistant design philosophy of ductile frame buildings allows beams to form plastic hinges adjacent to beam-column connections. In order to carry out this design philosophy, the ultimate bond or shear strength of the beam should be greater than the flexural yielding force and should not degrade before reaching its required ductility. The behavior of RC members dominated by bond or shear action reveals a dramatic reduction of energy dissipation in the hysteretic response due to the severe pinching effects. In this study, a method was proposed to predict the deformability of reinforced concrete members with short-span-to-depth-ratios, which would result in bond failure after flexural yielding. Repeated or cyclic loading produces a progressive deterioration of bond that may lead to failure at lower cyclic bond stress levels. Accumulation of bond damage is caused by the propagation of micro-cracks and progressive crushing of concrete in front of the lugs. The proposed method takes into account bond deterioration due to the degradation of concrete in the post yield range. In order to verify bond deformability of the proposed method, the predicted results were compared with the experimental results of RC members reported in the technical literature. Comparisons between the observed and calculated bond deformability of the tested RC members showed reasonably good agreement.

Investigation of Viscoelastic Properties of EPDM/PP Thermoplastic Vulcanizates for Reducing Innerbelt Weatherstrip Squeak Noise of Electric Vehicles (전기차 인너벨트 웨더스트립용 EPDM/PP Thermoplastic Vulcanizates 재료설계인자에 따른 점탄성과 글라스 마찰 소음 상관관계 연구)

  • Due to enormous market growing of electric vehicles without combustion engine, reducing unwanted BSR (buzz, squeak, and rattle) noise is highly demanded for vehicle quality and performance. Particularly, innerbelt weatherstrips which not only block wind noise, rain, and dust from outside, but also reduce noise and vibration of door glass and vehicle are required to exhibit high damping properties for improved BSR performance of the vehicle. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), which can be recycled and have lighter weight than thermoset elastomers, are receiving much attention for weatherstrip material, but TPEs exhibit low material damping and compression set causing frictional noise and vibration between the door glass and the weatherstrip. In this study, high damping EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer)/PP (polypropylene) thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV) were investigated by varying EPDM/PP ratio and ENB (ethylidene norbornene) fraction in EPDM. Viscoelastic properties of TPV materials were characterized by assuming that the material damping is directly related to the viscoelasticity. The optimum material damping factor (tanδ peak 0.611) was achieved with low PP ratio (14 wt%) and high ENB fraction (8.9 wt%), which was increased by 140% compared to the reference (tanδ 0.254). The improved damping is believed due to high fraction of flexible EPDM chains and higher interfacial slippage area of EPDM particles generated by increasing ENB fraction in EPDM. The stick-slip test was conducted to characterize frictional noise and vibration of the TPV weatherstrip. With improved TPV material damping, the acceleration peak of frictional vibration decreased by about 57.9%. This finding can not only improve BSR performance of electric vehicles by designing material damping of weatherstrips but also contribute to various structural applications such as urban air mobility or aircrafts, which require lightweight and high damping properties.

Development of a Prototype Automatic Sorting System for Dried Oak Mushrooms (건표고 자동선별을 위한 시작시스템 개발)

  • 한국과 일본의 경우 건표고를 외관의 품질상태 에 따라 12등급에서 16등급으로 구분하고 있다. 그리고 등급판정 작업은 임의로 추출한 샘플을 대상으로 전문 감정가에 의해 수작업으로 수행되고 있다. 건표고의 품질을 결정짓는 외관의 품질인자들은 갓과 내피에 고루 분포하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 컴퓨터 영상처리 시스템에 의거하여 개발한 건표고 자동 등급판정 및 선별 시작시스템의 구조와 기능 그리고 성능에 대하여 설명하였다. 개발한 시작시스템은 표고의 이송과 취급자동화를 위한 진동이송기, 반전장치, 컨베이어 이송장치와 두 세트의 컴퓨터 영상처리 시스템, 그리고 시스템 통괄제어를 위한 IBM PC AT호환 컴퓨터, 디지털 입출력 보드, 전공압실린더 구동제어를 위한 PLC등으로 구성하였다. 등급판정의 효율성 및 실시간 작업시스템을 고려하여 건표고의 등급판정은 두 세트의 컴퓨터 영상처리 시스템을 이용하여 이송되는 건표고의 갓 또는 내피 중 어디가 위를 향하는 지에 따라 두 단계에 걸쳐 독립적으로 판정을 수행하도록 하였다. 첫 번째 영상처리부에서는 갓표면 영상으로부터 4등급의 고품질 표고를 분류하며 두 번째 영상처리부에서는 내피표면 영상으로부터 중간 및 저품질 표고를 8개의 등급으로 분류한다. 실시간 영상정보처리를 목적으로 기존에 개발한 신경회로망을 이용한 등급판정 알고리즘을 시작시스템에 적용하였다. 개발한 시작기는 88% 이상의 등급판정 정확도를 보여 주었으며, 전공압시스템의 구동제약으로 인하여 표고 1개당 약0.7초의 선별시간이 소요되었다. 일조 선별라인의 경우 본 연구에서 제안한 시작기의 선별능력은 표고가 일차 처리부로 갓이 위로 올라와 있는 상태로 계속 공급된다면 시간당 대략 5,000여 개의 표고를 처리할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.보강하여 가능하면 B-Pillar의 Middle이 Bending type collapse을 방지하여 Pelvis와 Door가 먼저 접촉하는 방법 등이 적용가능하다. 제작하기 이전에 설계된 부품에 대한 스프링 상수 및 내구특성을 체계적으로 규명하여 제품 시험의 횟수를 줄이고, 보다 정밀한 제품을 제작할 수 있도록 하기 위한 것이다.세포수는 초기 배반포기배에서 팽윤 배반포기배로 진행됨에 따라 두배에서 세배 정도 증가되었음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, differential labelling과 bisbenzimide기법에서 얻어진 각각의 총세포수를 비교하였을 때 총세포수는 발달의 진행 정도에 따라 증가되며 그와 동시에 동일한 군 간의 세포수도 거의 유사함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서, ICM과 TE를 differential labelling하는 기법은 수정란의 quality를 평가하는데 매우 유용한 기법으로서 착상전 embryo 발달을 연구하는데 효과적으로 이용될 수 있다는 것을 시사한다. 고도의 유의차를 나타낸 반면 비수구, 초생수로구 및 Bromegrass 목초구 간에는 아무런 유의차가 인정되지 않았다. 7. 농지보전 처리구인 배수구와 초생수로구는 비처리구에 비해 낮은 침두 유출량과 낮은 토양유실량을 나타내었다.구보다 14% 절감되는 것으로 나타났다.작용하는 것으로 사료된다.된다.정량 분석한 결과이다. 시편의 조성은 33.6 at% U, 66.4 at% O의 결과를 얻었다. 산화물 핵연료의 표면 관찰 및 정량 분석 시험시 시편 표면을 전도성 물질로 증착시키지 않고, Silver Paint 에 시편을 접착하는 방법으로도 만족한 시험 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.째, 회복기 중에 일어나는 입자들의 유입은 자기폭풍의 지속시간을 연장시키는 경향을 보이며 큰

Comparison of Agronomic Characteristics, Productivity and Feed Values of Summer Sowing Sorghum Hybrids in Gyeongbuk (경북지역에서 여름 파종 수수류 교잡종의 생육특성, 수량성 및 사료가치 비교)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate on agronomic characteristics, dry matter (DM) and digestible dry matter (DDM) yields of summer sowing sorghum hybrids (Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench) at Seongju in Gyeongbuk from 2013 to 2014. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications. Sorghum hybrids were seeded $31^{st}$ of July, 2013 and 2014. Sorghum hybrids were harvested on $3^{rd}$ November, 2013 and $5^{th}$ November, 2014. The observed average heading date was October 5, 8 and 9 for Sordan79, Sprint and SX17 respectively. The DM yield of 'SX17', 'Sordan79', and 'Sprint' was 24.2, 23,9 and 23.4 ton/ha, respectively and DM yield of those were significantly higher (p<0.05) than other three cultivars in 2013. DM yield of 'SX17', 'Sprint' and 'Sordan79' was 20.8, 20.0 and 19.3 ton/ha, respectively and DM yield of those was significantly higher (p<0.05) than other three cultivars in 2014. The DDM yield of 'SX17', 'Sordan79', and 'Sprint' was also higher (p<0.05) than other three cultivars in 2013 and 2014. ADF content of sorghum hybrids was low, whereas DDM was high. The results of this study indicated that traditional sorghum-sudangrass hybrids ('SX17', 'Sordan79') and sudan grass-sudangrass hybrid ('Sprint') than late flowering sorghum-sudangrass hybrid ('PACF8350') and sorghum-sorghum hybrids ('SS405', 'Sugar grazer') would be recommended for DM and DDM yields in the southern Korea.

  • FRP is a new material that is lightweight, has high strength and high durability, and is emerging as a third construction material in many countries. The composite material panel targeted in this study was a curved member and is the most frequently used arch-shaped member of a structures, such as tunnels. Composite curved panels can be produced in high quality and large quantities through automation operations. On the other hand, the frequency of application is low, and the design criteria and experimental data are lacking. Therefore, this study examined the mechanical performance of the member unit first to verify its performance as structural members of the FRP curved panel. For this purpose, tensile, compression, and connection performance tests were carried out. The tensile tests showed greater tensile strength of specimens with larger curvature, and the compression tests showed that the composite section of a composite material has greater compressive strength than the concrete section. Finally, the test of the performance of the connection showed that the attachment performance of the connection was more than equal to that of the FRP composite material panel.

Selection of Appropiate Plant Species of VFS (Vegetative Filter Strip) for Reducing NPS Pollution of Uplands (밭 비점오염저감을 위한 초생대 적정 초종 선정)

  • This study focused on the selection of appropriate plant species of VFS (vegetative fiter strips) and the assessment of VFS effects for reducing NPS (non-point source) pollution from uplands. The experimental field was constructed with 1 control and 6 treated plots in the upland area of $1,500m^2$ with 5% slope which is located in Gunwi-gun, Gyeongbuk province. Six vegetation including Chufa, Common crabgrass, Barnyard grass, Turf grass, Tall fescue, Kenturky bluegrass, were applied to install VFS systems during the study period from June 2011 to Dec. 2012. The results of this study showed that 6.1~77.8% in runoff and 15.6~90.3% in TS, 49.9~96.6% in T-P, and 6.7~91.1% in T-N were reduced from the VFS treated plots. Generally high reduction effects were observed from TS, T-P, T-N, and SS, while BOD, TOC, and $NO_3^-$ showed low reductions. The best vegetation type was Turf grass showing higher reduction effects of NPS pollutions and having relatively easier maintenance efforts compared to other vegetations selected in this study. Based on these results, VFS technique found to be an effective management practice for reducing agricultural NPS pollutions in Korean upland conditions. Further study needs to be performed through various field experiments with long term monitoring in order to develop a design manual of VFS system for practical applications.

An Experimental Study on Seismic Damage Indicator Considering Cumulative Absolute Velocity Concept (누적절대속도 개념을 고려한 지진손상표시기의 실험적 연구)

  • The nuclear power plant(NPP) should be shut down for inspection and tests prior to a return to power if the earthquake exceeds the operating basis earthquake(OBE). The OBE at the plant is considered to have been exceeded if the computed cumulative absolute velocity(CAV) from the earthquake record is greater than 0.16g-sec. However, the CAV criterion should be determined considering the seismic and structural characteristics of the plant. An experimental study using shaking table is conducted in this study to evaluate intensity of CAV criterion. Appropriate level of CAV is evaluated based on the test results using the developed seismic damage indicator(SDI) model. The model consists of stacked acrylic cylinders and is developed to behave consistently for each directional seismic load. The result of the experimental study in dicates that the CAV criterion of 0.16g-sec is conservative enough to be applied to Korean NPPs since the CAV value of the seismic input motion of the Korean standard NPPs ranges from 0.3 to 0.5 g-sec. The developed SDI is expected to be useful not only in easily determining OBE exceedance but also in evaluating earthquake damage quantitatively to provide guidelines for better post-shutdown inspection and test.
