  • Since the modal pushover analysis (MPA) is introduced by A.K.Chopra in 2002, it has been the leading procedure for the seismic evalution of structures. However it has scarcely used on bridge structures dueing to its inherent limitation. In this paper, MPA is applied on cable-stayed bridges to check its applicability on such structures.

  • Lifeboat davit is composed of main frame, main arm, upper arm and support bar. In this paper, design parameters that affect the bending stiffness were set as plate thickness, width and hight of upper arm. To analyze the influence of parameter factors, FEM and Taguchi Method were used. This paper will help substantially in many industries.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 3차원 풍력터빈 블레이드 최적형상설계를 위한 실용적이고 효율적인 설계과정을 구현하는 것이다. 국내 연안의 해상풍력에 적용하기 위해서 통계적 모델을 이용하여 풍황자료를 분석하였다. 설계에 관련된 많은 수의 설계변수를 효과적으로 관리하기 위해서 설계과정은 운용조건 최적화와 블레이드 형상설계의 2단계로 구성하였다. 실험계획법에 의해 추출된 각 운용조건 설계점은 형상설계를 위한 입력 값으로 제공된다. 형상설계 단계에서는 최소에너지손실 조건과 결합된 BEMT를 이용하여 각 블레이드 단면에서의 시위길이와 피치각 분포를 최적화하였다. 블레이드 단면 익형은 NREL S830을 이용하였고, 익형의 공력성능은 XFOIL을 이용하여 예측하였다. 설계된 블레이드 형상의 성능해석을 수행하고 그 결과를 바탕으로 반응면을 구성하였다. 좀 더 나은 성능을 가진 블레이드 형상을 찾기 위해서 초기설계공간에서 확률적 방법을 이용하여 타당성 있는 설계공간까지 운용조건 설계변수를 이동시키고 구배최적화 기법을 통해 각각의 제약함수를 만족하면서 연간에너지생산량을 최대로 하는 최적블레이드 형상을 구현하였다. 제시된 최적설계과정은 풍력터빈블레이드 개발에 실용적이고 신뢰성 있는 설계툴로서 사용이 가능하다.

  • This paper presents a robust design procedure for minimizing warpage in plastic injection-molded products, where the Pick-the-Winner rule based on Taguchi's Orthogonal Array experiments and the Design Space Reduction Method are integrated for optimization. Two-step optimization approach is applied to reduce warpage in the part design stage and additionally to minimize the warpage in the process conditions design stage. Taguchi's S/N ratio is introduced as a design metric to evaluate robustness against process variations. The effectiveness of proposed optimization process is shown with an example of warpage minimization problem.

  • This study proposed the applicability of inverse stiffness method on the seismic design for steel frame with buckling restrained braces and the design results were compared with former research's. The concept of this method is simple and efficient. Furthermore it is able to reflect the high mode's effect and control the ductility factors of each story individually. Design results using the proposed method showed that according to increase of the given target drift, the areas of brace generally decreased but partially increased in some stories of the tall structure with very large ductility. And the post yield stiffness ratio's variation had more effect on the design results in the small post yield stiffness ratio.

  • Nonlinear static procedures (NSPs) basing on the concept of performance based seismic design have become one of the promising procedures for seismic evaluation of buildings. Although it needs much less computational cost compared to nonlinear time history analysis (NTHA), its usages are limited to simple structures by its inherent restriction to structures wherein the fundamental mode dominates the response. Several new nonlinear static procedures (Modal Pushover Analysis; MPA and Improved Modal Pushover Analysis; IMPA) which can consider higher modes effect were introduced. Nonetheless, its applicability for complex structures such as cable-stayed bridge has not studied yet. This paper focuses on applicability of nonlinear static procedures for the seismic analysis of cable-stayed bridges. Moreover, reliability indexes which can predict analysis procedure's accuracy are introduced.

  • An extensive effort is actively being made to implement permeable pavement systems in urban or residential areas of South Korea in order to achieve efficient water circulation system based on low impact development (LID) design concept. This study aims to establish the design factors and procedure for permeable asphalt pavements structural design. Based on the review of previous studies, the 1993 AASHTO design method is found to be adequate for permeable pavements structural design. In this study, the design program based on 1993 AASHTO design procedure in conjunction with domestic roadway design standards was developed to accommodate the characteristics of permeable asphalt pavements. Primary design parameters such as structural layer coefficients of permeable materials were successfully quantified based on literature reviews and parallel analyses. Comparable design thicknesses were obtained between the developed permeable pavement design (PPD) program and Korea pavement research program (KPRP) under different levels of traffic and subgrade load bearing capacity.

The Use of Piles to Cut Slopes Design in Cohesive Soils (억지말뚝을 이용한 점성토지반 절토사면의 설계)

  • A new design technique is presented to stabilize cut slopes in cohesive soils by use of piles. The design method can consider systematically factors such as the gradient and height of slope, the number and position of pile's rows, the interval and stiffness of piles, etc. The design method is established on the basis of the stability analysis of slope with rows of piles. The basic concept applied in the stability analysis is that the soil across the open space between piles can be retained by the arching action of the soil, when a row of piles is installed in soil undergoing lateral movement such as landslides. To obtain the whole stability of slope containing piles, two kinds of analyses for the pile-stability and the slope- stability must be performed simultaneously. An instrumentation system has been installed at a cut slope in cohesive soil, which has been designed according to the presented design process. The behavior of both the piles and the soil across the open space between piles is observed precisely. The result of instrumentation shows that the cut slope has been stabilized by the contribution of stabilizing effect of piles on the slope stability in cohesive soil.
