Design and Implementation of Equation Chatting System for Remote Mathematical Education (원격 수학 교육을 위한 수식 대화 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • Based on recent fast development of computer and telecommunication technologies, the Distance Education System(DES) was introduced and utilized widely in the area of education. For an immediate and fluent communication between the teacher and the student under DES, the chatting subsystem was effectively used. However, the current chatting systems are not able to receive and transmit the mathematical symbols despite their indispensability in the process of problem and solution setting under remote mathematical education. In this study, thus, Equation Chatting System that can receive and send the mathematical symbols under the graphical user interface was designed and implemented.

Development of the Internet-Based Educational Software Package for the Design and Virtual Experiment of the Digital Logic Circuits (디지탈 논리회로 설계 및 모의 실험 실습을 위한 인터넷 기반 교육용 소프트웨어 패키지 개발)

  • In this paper, we developed the internet-based educational software package (DVLab) for design and virtual experiment of the digital logic circuits. The DVLab consists of the LogicSim module for design and simulation of digital combinational/sequantial logic circuits, micro-controller application circuits and the BreadBoard module for virtual experiment and the Theory module for lecture and the Report/ReportChecker module and some other utility modules. All developed modules can be run as application programs as well as applets in the Internet. The LogicSim and the BreadBoard support real time clock function, output verification function on the designed circuits, trace function of logic values, copy-protection function of designed circuits and provide various devices including logic gates, TTLs, LED, buzzer, and micro-controller. The educational model of digital logic circuit design and experiment using the DVLab is also presented in this paper.

  • The objective of this study was to propose a new framework for the creative engineering in the product family design coursework. The idea of product family design is a good solution to fulfill customer's requirements and to respond quickly for the technology change. Mass customization based on product family and product platform is a new paradigm with variety and customization through flexibility and quick responsiveness. In this study, the subjects of product family, product platform, product family map, platform leveraging strategy, morphological matrix and module based product family design were reviewed and presented. A new idea generation scheme utilizing SCAMPER method was combined with the morphological matrix approach. For the effective product family and platform design, creative efforts and approaches were utilized and implemented in the coursework process. This will help students to develop creative thinking and approaches in the engineering problem solving.

  • In this paper, we describe a case study of a new lab. project that improves efficiency for education and interest on learning in image processing and pattern recognition related subjects by using LEGO Mindstorms. In addition we verify the validity with analysis of the practical application. LEGO Mindstorms is already used in many educational institution of several countries since about 10 years ago and various case studies have been published. The use of LEGO Mindstorms is generally positive but the negative comments about this exist. The main cause of negative opinion is from unpredictability. The unpredictability from mainly analog characteristics of robot can degrade the effective learning. The describing lab. project suppresses occurrence of unpredictability by minimizing dependence on robots. Students can concentrate on learning the related algorithms by minimizing the learning content and further consideration.

  • This paper surveys the state-of-the-art in korean commercial Internet of Things(IoT) services for deriving the core elements of a curriculum for major courses of IoT using RaspberryPi3. First, we survey the state-of-the-art of IoT researches and commercial services in three korean major telecommunication corporations such as Korean Telecommunications (KT), LGU+ Telecommunication (LGT), and SK Telecommunication(SKT). Second, we consider the components and advantages of the RaspberryPi3 which is popular as a representative educational tool. Concludingly, this paper derives the core elements of curriculum for major courses of IoT using RaspberryPi3 from above both processes. The corresponding elements consist of platforms, hardwares, softwares, and big-data network. Based on the important design elements of the IoT curriculum using Raspberry Pie 3, we taught embedded system course to junior students for one semester. It was successfully completed and more than 90% students were satisfied with its contents and amounts.

  • This study aims to analyze the types of college admission that should be strengthened or reflected in universities and to suggest the direction of entrance examination by identifying the actual implementation of the literature-science integrated 2015 revised national curriculum. In order to do so, in-depth interviews on the current state were executed to five curriculum experts. As a result of the interview, it was found that the introduction and adoption of clear admission types look into the inner side of high school life are necessary. Also, it is required to establish specific criteria for student selection expand in-depth interviews related to learning activities in high school, strengthen evaluation competence of admission staffs and recruit more evaluation personnel. In addition, in order to revitalize the 2015 revised curriculum, it is necessary to evaluate how many subjects, especially in career-related subjects, students have taken in order to expand the school record-focused system. For this, it is required to extract evaluation elements and criteria of universities that can grasp continuous and active role performance, and to design a typical design that can objectively judge them. This study can contribute to the settlement of the selection process that can revitalize public education. And it is expected that the selection of the talents desired by the university will be used as a possible basic data.

Analysis of Students' Perception of Landscape Construction Education (조경시공과목 교육에 대한 학생들의 인식 분석)

  • As a professional occupation, landscape education focuses on fostering professional human resources and is one of the major axes of the landscape industry. In this study, a survey of landscape students on their learning and pedagogics was conducted with the aim to present basic information for the improvement of teaching on landscape construction. A total of 348 people answered 14 questions in the category of the impression of landscape construction classes included in the questionnaire. The results showed that the students found landscape construction classes academically important and recognized the necessity for completing these classes, but they were not satisfied with the learning environments and pedagogics used in these classes. They found what they learned not readily applicable to actual practice and saw these classes as part of their preparations for the landscape engineer qualification test. Their demands in relation to the classes included field practice-oriented teaching and participation in various programs for field practice, which highlights the necessity for human resource management-oriented classes that cover planning, design, construction, and management. Challenges in relation to field practice included the provision of environment, for example offering a variety of opportunities and improving treatment in practice. This study has significance in that it analyzed the views of students and discussed directions for future improvement since there is a lack of studies and discussions about education in the field of landscape construction. This study also has a limitation that only four-year universities were included in the study. Comprehensive studies including investigating junior college and graduate school curricula and case studies of landscape construction curricula overseas are needed in the future.

Effects of Convergence-based Integrated simulation Practice program on the Clinical decision making, Problem solving process, Clinical competence and Confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance for Nursing Students (융복합 기반 통합시뮬레이션실습 교육이 간호대학생의 임상의사결정능력, 문제해결과정, 임상수행능력, 핵심기본간호술 수행 자신감에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was performed to examine that convergence-based integrated simulation practice program curriculum effects the clinical decision making, problem solving competence, clinical competence and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance for nursing students. After the convergence-based integrated simulation practice program, there were significant increased in problem solving process(t=-3.052, p<.01), clinical competence(t=-4.279, p=.000), and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance(t=-2.416, p<.05). The finding of this study verified that the integrated simulation practice program curriculum can be used for improvements of problem solving competence, clinical competence and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance for nursing students. It is necessary to develop a scientific analytical evaluation tool and program, and it would be necessary to have a system for scientifically analyzing the integration of simulation practical courses by nursing college students by grade level and subjects.

Performance Evaluation of Premier Global Construction Engineer Training Program (글로벌 건설 엔지니어링 고급인력 양성사업의 성과평가)

  • This paper aims to evaluate the performance of S University's Premier Global Construction Engineer Training Program. The net impact of the program is evaluated through a quasi-experiment design approach. The competency level of an individual participant is compared with that of a non-participating expert with similar professional background. The results show that the training program contributed to a significant improvement in the professional competencies of the participating students. The competency level was regressed on the subjects of curriculum. The achievements are attributable to a group of subjects focused on the skills for project development such as PPP, feasibility study, and project financing. Another group of subjects found to have significantly contributed to the improved competencies can be categorized as subjects focused on nurturing global perspectives. The paper shows it is possible to quantify the contribution of the program and the results provide a set of information that can be useful in designing and operating similar programs.

  • In recent years, space planning ability using 3D sketch software is required in the working field of interior design. However, vocational high school do not respond appropriately to changes in the industry, because the class of vocational high school consists of hands-on practical classes and 2D CAD based classes. There is a shortage of 3D sketch software-based instruction programs that can improve students' spatial planning skills. Therefore, this study is to develop instruction program using 3D sketch software for 'Planning for Residential Space' unit of NCS-based on interior design subject and to find out the effect on students' academic achievement by applying to vocational high school class. The 3d sketch software based instructional program developed in this study was developed through four stages of preparation, development, implementation and evaluation according to the PDIE model process. The experimental design model used nonequivalent group posttest-only design in this study. Experiments were conducted on vocational high school students in construction and 9 hours of interior design subjects were applied. After the experiments, students were tested for academic achievement in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor areas. As a result, the instruction program using the 3d sketch program developed in this study was found to be more effective in improving students' academic achievement than existing manual instruction program in both cognitive, affective, and psychomotor areas.
