This review introduces the empirical approach of rice yield forecasting and compares it with remote sensing approach. The empirical approach, was based on the results of the rice growth and yield monitoring experiment in 17 sites, estimated rice yield by recombination of yield components. The number of spikelet per unit area was from results of experiment sites and grain filling rate was estimated from linear regression with sunshine hours. The estimation results were relatively accurate from 2010 to 2016. The smallest error was 1 kg / 10a and the largest error was 19 kg / 10a. The largest error was caused by the typhoon. The empirical approach did not fully reflect the spatial variation caused by disasters such as typhoon or pest. On the other hand, remote sensing could explain spatial variation caused by disasters. Therefore, if there are not any disaster in rice field, both approaches are valid and remote sensing will be more accurate when any local disaster occurs.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop in vivo dosimetries using both chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei in mice to assess biological effects of radiations. Materials and Methods: Five each mice were irradiated with 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 Gy of Cs-137 gamma-rays. We scored numbers of chromosomal aberrations in metaphase spreads and numbers of micronuclei in bone marrow smears under light microscope, and obtained the dose-response relationships. We also examined the relationship between the two dose-response curves. Results: The frequency of both chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei increased with dose, in a linear-quadratic manner The delta, beta, and alpha coefficients were 0.0176, 0.0324, and 0.0567 for metaphase analysis (r=1.0, p<0.001) and 0.0019, 0.0073, and 0.0506 for micronuclei assay (r=1.0, p<0.001). The frequency of chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei in different radiation doses was significantly correlated (r=0.99, p<0.01). Conclusion: In vivo dosimetry using either metaphase analysis or micronucleus assay was feasible in mice. These methods could be useful to evaluate biological effects of radiation.

This cross-sectional descriptive study investigated the influence of romantic relationships' characteristics, self-esteem and sexual autonomy on limerence in dating relationships among female college students who had or were currently engaged in a dating relationship. The data was collected through self-reported structured questionnaires from 167 female Korean college students using convenient sampling methods from November 25, 2012 to December 20, 2012. The data was analyzed using t-tests, one-way analyses of variance, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression analysis with the IBM SPSS 23.0 program. The results showed that a significant difference was found in limerence according to the frequency of experiencing romantic breakup (F=4.16, p=.003), and limerence in dating relationships was negatively correlated with self-esteem (r=-.31, p<.001) and sexual autonomy (r=-.21, p=.006). Self-esteem and the frequency of romantic breakups explained 20% of limerence in dating relationships among the participants (F=8.03, p<.001). Therefore, as a strategy to solve the problems related to limerence during the period of dating, cognitive and educational interventions are needed to strengthen the self-esteem and sexual autonomy of college students who have had a high number of separations. In addition, early screening of college students with risk factors for limerence and providing problem-solving based counseling will help improve their psychological health.

This study analyzed the lpcd of 25 districts in Seoul using random samples of residents in Seoul selected by computer selecting system. By classifying these samples according to the type of houses(tenement houses, apartment houses and detached houses), the type of districts, the effects of the number of residents in a house and the type of the houses on tap water use are analyzed. From these samples, the consumption of tap water per capita day(lpcd) in Seoul can be estimated statistically. It is also observed that the lpcd decreases as the flat-dwellers increase. As the dwellers increase from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3, from 3 to 4 and from 4 to 5, lpcd has decreased by 47.6%, 20.8%, 16.9%, and 9.0%, respectively. The regression curve, which fits the tendency of decrease well, is represented by an power function. And the estimated linear regression equation shows that the average decreasing rate of lpcd as flat dwellers increasing is 12%.

Algal blooms of cyanobacteria (blue-green Algae) due to the eutrophication of rivers and lakes can cause not only the damage by its biological toxins but also the economic loss in drinking water treatment. The natural algae coagulant, a commercial product known as W.H. containing the algicidal and allelopathic material derived from oak, can control algal problems proactively through the coagulation flotation process. However, because there have been no applications of the process for pre-treatment in drinking water plants, we could find no report on the optimum injection dose of W.H.. In this study, we have conducted several sets of jar-tests while changing W.H. dose and concentration of chl-a for (1) Han-river samples and (2) subcultured cyanobacteria samples, and monitored the removal mechanisms of algae intensively. Based on these jar-test results, two linear equations with variables of chl-a and turbidity have been deduced to predict the optimal W.H. dose after the multiple regression analysis using IBM-SPSS. Also, prototypes of automatic control logic have been suggested to inject the optimal W.H. dose promptly in response to the variation of water quality.

This research was conducted to find the optimal condition in codigestion of food waste and sewage sludge with various mixing ratios. The analysis of degradation characteristics were based on the variations of methane production as well as methane production rate (MPR). BMP values were getting higher as the addition of foodwaste increased. But the lag-phase were prolonged when the foodwaste was over 40%, Nonlinear regression was conducted with the cumulative methane production data. Not only thermophilic but mesophilic condition, 40% of foodwaste addition showed maximum MPR. Higher mixing ratio which is over 50% were unprofitable in gaining higher MPR values. The most important factor in thermophilic co-digestion was substrate concentration. But in mesophilic co-digestion, both substrate concentration the mixing ratio had major effects on MPR. The most probable reasons of the synergetic effects in co-digestion of foodwaste and sewage sludge were the balanced nutrient expressed as C/N ratio and increased kinetic constants of hydrolysis by the mixed co-substrates.

Volcanic rocks formed from magma near the earth surface commonly show vesicular structures due to exsolution of gaseous phases in magma. The distinction and the amount of vesicles are greatly various, but there are few researches on the effect of volume percentage of vesicles on the mechanical properties. In this study, mechanical characteristics of volcanic rocks in relation to the porosity are investigated through experimental tests with Jeju basalt. Two methods (the buoyancy method and the caliper method) are adopted for measuring porosity. And unconfined compressive strength, elastic modulus, tensile strength, and elastic wave velocity are plotted against porosity in order to propose the empirical relations after the regression analysis. Also, unconfined compressive strength and the elastic modulus in relation to the elastic wave velocity are proposed with the analysis. In the case of vesicular rocks with more than 5% porosity, it is found that the buoyancy method provides more accurate estimation of porosity than the caliper method. The unconfined compressive strength, the elastic modulus, and the elastic wave velocity decrease curvilinearly with increasing in porosity. Also, the unconfined compressive strength and the elastic modulus increase linearly with increasing in elastic wave velocity.
We estimate how much KEPCO can save their loss and how much social welfare can be increased by applying the real-time pricing instead of current regulated retail price in the electricity market in order to analyze the problem of the regulated retail price which is fixed below the marginal cost. We estimate the demand functions of peak time and off-peak time in summer (June to August) and winter (December to February). We construct the supply function based on hourly step-wise linear marginal cost functions, too. We find that the increase of social welfare will be 67 billion won in summer if the fixed retail price is changed into the real-time pricing scheme. The total 705 billion won will be transferred from consumer surplus to producer surplus and the rest (67 billion won) will be saved from the reduction of deadweight loss among KEPCO's loss. In winter, the increase of social surplus will be 225 billion won and 1,174 billion won of KEPCO's loss will be transferred from consumer surplus. As a result, we conclude that the regulation of the retail price in the electricity market induces the social welfare loss and KEPCO suffers a huge loss.
The crustal structure of the southern part of the Korean peninsula has been investigated based on the results of processing and anlaysis of gravity data. The processing techniques involve i) seperation of regional and residual anomalies by polynomial fittings, ii) power spectral analyses to determine the mean depth to the crustal base, iii) a filtering operation called "high-cut filtering and resampling," and iv) downward continuation to determine the undulation of the crustal base. The Bouguer anomalies show a lineation in the NE-SW direction which is the same as that of most mountains and tectonic lines of this area. The mean crustal depth is found to be 34km. The depth of the crustal base is varying in the estimated range of 26km to 36km with a thinner crust below the east coast than that of the west coast. The relief of the crustal base is appeared to be correlated with the regional surface topography. The linear regression relations computed between elevations and gravity anomalies indicate that the crust of this area seems to be not in perfect isostatic equilibrium but a little undercompensated state.

This paper introduces a magnetic hysteresis monitoring result to apply an EM sensing technique for estimating tensile force of PSC girder to various class of PS tendon. The tensile force of PS tendon is a very important factor in the performance evaluation of PSC bridges. However, in this time, the tensile force was just measured only during construction and it does not monitored after construction. To measure the tensile force of PS tendons, the EM sensing based NDT method was developed but the proposed method cannot be applied to various class of PS tendons. Thus this study performed the magnetic hysteresis measurement according to the tensile force for class B, C and D PS tendons through experimental study. The specific tensile forces(50, 100, 150, 180kN) were induced to the each specimens and the magnetic hysteresis curve was measured at each point. The permeability of specimens were gradually decreased according to increase of tensile force. Especially, the slopes of permeability variation of class B and C were similar while that of class D was different.
