Film restoration is to detect the location and extent of defected regions from a given movie film, and if present, to reconstruct the lost information of each regions. It has gained increasing attention by many researchers, to support multimedia service of high quality. Among artifacts, scratch is the most frequent degradation. In this paper, an automatic film line scratch removal system is developed that can detect and restore all kind of scratches. For this we use the spatial information of scratches: The scratch in old films has lower or higher brightness than neighboring pixels in its vicinity and usually appears as a vertically long thin line. Our systems consists of scratch detection and scratch restoration. The scratches of various types are detected by neural network based texture classifier and morphology-based shape filter and then the degraded regions are restored using bilinear interpolation. To assess the validity of the Proposed method, it has been tested with all kinds of scratches, and then experimental results show that the proposed approach is robust to various scratches and efficient to apply a real film removal system.

In this paper, we propose a multi-scale crack detection method using scaling. It is based on morphology algorithm, crack features, and scaling. We use a morphology operator which extracts patterns of crack. It segments cracks and background using opening and closing operations. Morphology based segmentation is better than existing integration methods using subtraction in detecting a crack it has small width. However, morphology methods using only one structure element could detect only fixed width crack. Thus, we use a scaling method. We use bilinear interpolation for scaling. Our method calculates values of properties such as the number of pixels and the maximum length of the segmented region. We decide whether the segmented region belongs to cracks according to those data. Experimental results show that our proposed multi-scale crack detection method has better results than those of existing detection methods.

To evaluate whether or not their product is in conformity with its drawing, today's factories manufacturing rubber and/or plastic products use manual process. In manual conformity inspection process, a person decides conformity as comparing drawing to image of product with his eyes. The manual process is tedious and time-consuming in addition that it is impossible to automatically record various informations related to inspection. To solve such problems, this paper proposes automatic drawing conformity inspection system based on computer vision technologies such as image feature matching and bilinear interpolation. The test results show that proposed system is a lot faster when comparing with manual system.

The analysis of power spectrum based on linear AR model is applied widely to quantize the response of autonomic nerve noninvasively, In this paper, we estimate the power spectrum density for heartrate variability of the electrocadiogram and pulse wave for short term data(less than two minute), The time series of heart rate variability is obtained from the time interval(RRI, PPI) between the feature point of the electrocadiogram and pulse wave for normal person, The generated time series reconstructed into new time series through polynomial interpolation to apply to the AR mode. The power spectrum density for AR model is calculated by Burg algorithm, After applying AR model, the power spectrum density for heart rate variability of the electrocadiogram and the pulse wave is shown smooth spectrum power at the region of low frequence and high frequence, and that the power spectrum density of electrocadiogram and pulse wave has similar form for same subject.

In this paper, we first analyze the differences of underwater acoustic (UWA) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems and conventional terrestrial OFDM system, and give a simple introduction of the backgrounds. By considering the real UWA channel environments, the measured channel data is used to generate the UWA channel model and calculate the relative parameters for underwater OFDM systems. Practical least square (LS) based channel estimation with linear interpolation are adopted to obtain the channel state information (CSI) at receiver side. As multi-input multi-output (MIMO) processing techniques, Alamouti code is implemented and evaluated to perform for space time block coding (STBC) and space frequency block coding (SFBC) for UWA OFDM systems with the MIMO configuration of $2{\times}1$, at the same time, $1{\times}2$ maximum ratio combining (MRC) is performed for the purpose of comparison. The simulation results show that, with perfect channel estimation, SFBC failed to work duo to the serious frequency selectivity of UWA channel environments. When the practical channel estimation is applied, in the case of STBC, the proposed 4-column pilot pattern gives better performance about 7dB than SISO system.

Motion estimation and compensation in the spatial domain check the searching area of specified size in the previous frame and search block to minimize the difference with current block. When we check the searching area, it consumes the most encoding times due to increasing the complexity. We can solve this fault by means of motion estimation using shifting matrix in the transform domain instead of the spatial domain. We derive so the existed shifting matrix to a new recursion equation that we decrease more computations. We modify simply vertical shifting matrix and horizontal shifting matrix in the transform domain for motion estimation of half-pixel accuracy. So, we solve increasing computation due to bilinear interpolation in the spatial domain. Simulation results prove that motion estimation by the proposed algorithm in DCT-based transform domain provides higher PSNR using fewer bits than results in the spatial domain.
This paper presents a method to display the 3D vector fields by analyzing phase space. This method is based on the connections between ordinary differential equations and the topology of vector fields. The phase space analysis should be geometric interpolation of an autonomous system of equation in the form of the phase space. Every solution of it system of equations corresponds not to a curve in a space, but the motion of a point along the curve. This analysis is the basis of this paper. This new method is required to decompose the hexahedral cell into five or six tetrahedral cells for 3D vector fields. The critical points can be easily found by solving a simple linear system for each tetrahedron. The tangent curves can be integrated by finding the intersection points of an integral curve traced out by the general solution of each tetrahedron and plane containing a face of the tetrahedron.

For a signal such as speech showing piece-wise linear shape in a very short time period, a nonuniform sampling method based on the inflection point detection (IPD) is proposed to reduce data rate. The method exploits the geometrical characteristics of signal further than the existing local maxima/minima detection (MMD) based sampling method. As results, the reconstructed signal by the interpolation of the IPD based sampled data resembles the original speech more. Computer simulation shows that the proposed IPD based method produces about 9~23 dB improvement over the existing MMD method. To show the usefulness of the IPD technique, it is applied to speech coding, and compared to the continuously variable slope delta modulation (CVSD). The nonuniformly sampled data is binary coded with one bit flag set "1". Noninflection samples are not sent, but only flag bits set 0 are sent. The method shows 0.3 ~ 9 dB SNR and 0.5 ~ 1.3 mean opinion score (MOS) improvements over the CVSD.

This paper introduces the inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) imaging technique for rear view target of an automobile, which uses both linear frequency modulation-frequency shift keying(LFM-FSK) waveform and monopulse tracking. LFM-FSK waveform consists of two sequential stepped frequency waveforms with some frequency offset, and thus, can be used to generate ISAR images of rear view target of an automobile. However, ISAR images can often be blurred due to non-uniform change rate of relative aspect angle between radar and target. In order to address this problem, one-dimensional(1-D) Lagrange interpolation technique in conjunction with angle information obtained from the monopulse tracking is applied to generate uniform data across the radar's aspect angle. Simulation results show that the proposed method can provide focused ISAR images.

To detect faults in an inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive under the circumstance having faults in a stator winding and inverter switch, an on-line basis fault detecting scheme during operation is presented. The proposed scheme is achieved by monitoring the second-order harmonic component in q-axis current and the fault is detected by comparing these components with those in normal conditions. The linear interpolation method is employed to determine the harmonic data in normal operating conditions. As soon as the fault is detected, the operating mode is changed to identify a fault type using the phase current waveform. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed fault detecting scheme, a test motor to allow inter-turn short in the stator winding has been built. The entire control algorithm is implemented using DSP TMS320F28335. Without requiring an additional hardware, the fault can be effectively detected by the proposed scheme during operation so long as the steady-state condition is satisfied.
