  • Transportation decisions of ship liners are crucial for policy formulation in ports and shipping lines. Ship liners' port selection depends on the location characteristic of port. With network theory based, we empirically investigated determinants of global ship liners' port selection focused on major trade ports in China and Korea during 1995-2007. We present a detailed discussion on the related literatures about port selection, and develop hypothesis using network-based view. With conditional logit model, empirical results show that global liners select globally positioned ports rather than domestic oriented ones. Global ship liners select ports which have intra national network centrality, global ship network centrality and global network linkage.

  • Recently Incheon Port and Pyeongtak·Dangjin Port called as Capital Region Ports have enjoyed ever-increasing cargo volumes. However, there is a lack of research on this region while plenty of outputs were suggested on mega hub and regional hub ports in terms of shipping companies and stakeholders' port choice criteria. To identify and evaluate the Capital Region Ports, this paper identifies the factors and sub-components influencing their port choice and presents a structure for evaluating them. Based on the literature related to port selection and competition, a regional survey employed Factor Analysis to reveal that 'port facility and link', 'cost and service', 'port hinterland' and 'information service and port operation policy' are the determining factors in these regions. From the overall evaluation using Fuzzy Theory, Port of Incheon Port obtained high score compare to that of Port of Pyeongtak Dangjin.

  • This study examines the factors influencing container shipping carrier selection among coastal shippers in China amid the pressing external challenges posed by the U.S.-China trade conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic, during a period when China is implementing policies to open its maritime market. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze survey data, the research identifies multi-modal transportation services, carrier operational capabilities, and logistics risk management as key determinants. Notably, salesperson professionalism, cargo safety, and fleet stability during peak periods emerged as critical factors for shippers. The disruptions caused by the trade conflict and the pandemic have heightened shippers' focus on risk management and transportation reliability, further emphasizing the importance of carrier service quality and operational capabilities. This study underscores the need for carriers to strengthen their risk management capacities and enhance service quality in response to shifting global conditions. Additionally, the findings suggest that policymakers should consider regulatory adjustments to mitigate uncertainties in the shipping industry. Future research should delve deeper into the long-term impacts of external shocks on carrier selection decisions.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the components and verify the relationship among service quality, customer satisfaction and relationship quality in liner shipping company. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, literature survey related to service quality, customer satisfaction, relationship quality was carried out and took an empirical analysis by the use of questionnaire method for employees in international freight forwarders. The final results are as follows; First, correlations between service quality and customer satisfaction are found to be positive. But service quality component of tangibles and responsiveness with customer satisfaction are not to be positive. Second, as the other study on the similar logistics industries, the correlation between customer satisfaction and relationship quality is found to be positive in this study.

  • In this paper, we estimate the difference of port preference and attributed importance by diving subjects of the survey into internal and external shipping companies considered as the main customers of port. From the results of conjoint analysis, it is found that there are differences in preference between domestic shipping companies and foreign ones. The difference in port preference shows; foreign shipping companies mark Shanghai port in the first place in the preference of transshipment port, while domestic shipping companies prefer Busan port. Similar results are applied to preference of rolling port. The result of the survey means it is necessary to group shipping company, when port is analyzed, because the port preference is subject to wether internal or external shipping companies. Also, it implies target marketing strategies should continuously be needed in order to maintain Busan port's preference gaining advantage over other ports and major target would be shipping companies.

  • Radiologist image perceived by radiology students plays important role for them in establishing a positive Radiology professionalism as well as having a satisfaction on their job. Thus, this study was conducted to examine the image of Radiologist perceived by both radiology students. Q-methodology was used for this study. 110 Q statements were extracted from qualitative survey from 110 radiology students. The selected statements were reviewed and revised by experts and 33 Q samples were finally selected. Then, 30 radiology students were recruited for this study and were asked to arrange the statement cards on a 9 point scale, which shaped a normal distribution. The data were then analyzed by using PQ method program. As a result, two types of Radiologist's images were explored: 'professional technology type', 'safety of patient type' The results of this study will be helpful to provide the direction that we have to pursue regarding educational and political perspectives.

  • The implicit assumption of port selection studies based on survey and respondents' perceptions is that the preference of the port selection attributes is proportional to the selection behavior. Further, the straight lines of the port selection attributes could also have non-linear properties. This study confirms nonlinear characteristics of selection attributes by using Kano model. The findings of this study showed that several properties of carriers were evaluated as nonlinear characteristics, such as the intermodal links and network accessibility, and size of port and terminal. Hence, port service providers such as port authorities and terminal operating companiesl, should construct a port operation strategy that reflects the non-linear port selection characteristics of shipping companies. Since this study aimed at exploring the forms of port selection characteristics, long-term additional verification studies on ports and stakeholders at domestics and abroad were needed. The Kano model and importance-selection analysis method used for analysis and strategy establishment also need to be improved to capture evident characteristics and to present strategic guidelines.
