  • Malfunctioning of telecom systems can have serious implications on the safe navigation and operation of vessels and off-shore plants. Most safety-related accidents incur significant monetary damages and pollution due to complicated arrangements of the working environments and facilities. Therefore, an automated monitoring system that can collect data from configured telecom equipment connected to a network based on IP is required to ensure safe navigation and operation of such crucial institutions. This paper reports a list of such system requirements, system functions, and user-centered requirements based on the NORSOK T-100 (a standard of telecom management system). These findings were made through research with the newly designed and developed telecom management system (TMS). The TMS was tested by a testbed configured with CCTV, PA/GA, and other network equipment.

  • The cargo of ships and offshore structures is the number of oil of combustibility and volatile, oil processing cargo. Furthermore heavy cargo of the vehicle or container box or bulk cargo are occupied the remainder of cargo. In addition, there is a possibility to move the location of the cargo and the vessel because it is received periodic / non-periodic a load of wave and ocean current. Therefore a shipboard hazard is much greater than onshore industry hazard. Monitoring and preparation for safety are necessary things because there is always risk of accidents arise from the impact of the freight and cargo of ships and offshore structures. In this study, we conducted a study with respect to the introduction of the wireless sensor network monitoring system to ensure the safety of the crew and workers on shipboard.

  • In order to perform scientific evaluation of dredge results, it is needed to construct the system which is able to manage and evaluate the work process by monitoring in real-time the dredge process such as dredge ship position, dredge depth and dredge volume. This research aims to develop the hydrographic dredge surveying system adding water depth measurement method to both precise positioning and navigation methods using GPS, which allows a high rate of measurement and long distances between the control point and dredging points, operate in all weather conditions, and does not require line of sight to points. We constructed Beacon DGPS-based hydrographic dredger guidance and position management system and developed the operation program which makes the dredge operation perform as monitoring work situation in real-time. It is expected that this developed system will be able to contributes to reducing ultimately the cost in hydrographic dredging or hydrographic construction industries.

Study on Development of Remote Mental Health Care Program with VR for Seafarers

  • Seafarers play an important role in shipping and logistics. However, seafarers are relatively vulnerable to mental illness because they have to board ships for a considerable period of time and work in isolation. In particular, in the pandemic situation caused by COVID-19, the crew change is delayed due to the closure of many ports around the world, increasing the mental burden on seafarers. The mental health management of the crew is important because these mental problems can lead to major accidents of lives and ships. This paper identified the necessity of mental health management of seafarers through a survey and identified problems with the currently operated mental health management program and curriculum. Especially, this study proposed VR-based programs to help crews receive mentally counseling treatment in a timely manner and to reduce the mental burden on them by preventing sensitive personal information exposure. Through this, it is expected to contribute to the stable development of the logistics industry by establishing a safe seafarers working environment.

  • The primary purpose of this study is to examine empirically the effect of foreign crew's cultural and organizational characteristics on their self-efficacy and organization commitment. Currently, the restrictions on the employment of the foreign crews are being eased in the Korean shipping industry and many problems are occurring consequently. However, specific and empirical studies on the relevancy of cultural characteristics to the crew's self-efficacy and organizational commitment on board the vessels with combined crews have not yet been carried out. To solve these problems, we examined how the cultural characteristics such as acculturation and accommodation of different culture related to the improvement of cultural homogeneity of vessels with combined crews influence on the self-efficacy, job satisfaction and organizational commitment of the foreign crews through SEM analysis. According to the results, hypothesis 1 and 2 were all supported with statistical significance. To conclude, this study suggests that foreign crew's cultural homogeneity and their self-efficacy should be firstly enhanced in order to improve organizational commitment on the vessel with combined crews. Furthermore, a study on self-efficacy of crew organization is urgently needed to enhance the effectiveness of an organization in a vessel with combined crews that has special environment. The result of this study will contribute a lot to the organization management of a vessel with combined crews.

Feasibility Study of Developing Ship Engineering Control System based on DDS Middle-ware (DDS 미들웨어 기반의 선박 통합기관감시제어체계 개발 가능성 연구)

  • In systems like the combat management system of a naval ship or smart city of civilians, where many sensors and actuators are connected, the middle-ware DDS (Data Distribution Service) is mainly used to transmit large amounts of data. It is scalable and can effectively respond to the increase in sensors or equipment connected to the system in the future. The engineering control system (ECS), which plays an important role similar to the combat management system of a naval ship, still uses Server-Client model with industrial protocols such as Modbus and CAN (Controller Area Network) bus, to transmit data, which is unfavorable in terms of scalability. However, as automation and unmanned systems advance, more sensors and actuators are expected to be added, necessitating substantial program modification. DDS can effectively address such situations. The purpose of this study is to confirm the development possibility of an integrated monitoring and control system of a ship by using OpenDDS, which follows the OMG (Object Management Group) standard among the middle-ware DDS used in the combat management system. To achieve this goal, field equipment simulators and an ECS server were configured to perform field equipment data input/output and simulation using DDS was performed. The ECS prototype successfully handled data transmission, confirming that DDS is capable of serving as the middle-ware for the ECS of a ship.

The Impact of Capital Structure for Ship Investments on Corporate Stability (선박투자자금의 조달구조가 기업의 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • The capital structure of the shipping business, which is characterized by its capital intensity and extreme market volatility, is closely related to long-term stability. Research in this area has been conducted mostly in the form of deriving the determinants of capital structure from company-wise financial ratios. This research, on the other hand, has a different approach to the topic. It identifies the relationship between actual cash profit and loss and other variables - i.e. actual vessel prices, interest rates and leverage ratio - by employing historical simulation. The result demonstrates that the P anamax cash profit shows 0 (break-even point) when the debt weight reaches 64.38% (debt ratio 180.74%) and the Cape, 73.04% (debt ratio 270.92%). Additionally, the ships of different types show a divided pattern for the pre- and post-'Super Boom'. It indicates that the business area and the market cycle should be considered when a leverage strategy is established. This research benefits shipping companies set a rational leverage strategy as well as delivers a reasonable guideline to government authorities for the development of a sound policy on shipping finance.

부산항 미세먼지 감축정책 추진현황

  • 미세먼지 등 대기오염에 대한 국민적 관심 증가로 정부에서는 2022년까지 국내 배출량 30% 감축을 목표로 하는 '미세먼지 관리 종합대책'을 수립(2017년)하였으며, 국제해사기구(IMO)는 선박의 대기오염물질 배출량 감소를 위한 규정을 강화는 등 대기오염물질 감축을 위한 다양한 노력이 추진되고 있다. 그러나, 부산항을 포함한 부산지역의 미세먼지 농도는 선진국 및 WHO 기준에 비해 여전히 2~3배 높은 수준으로 부산의 주요산업인 부산항을 관리 운영하는 주체인 부산항만공사는 '부산항 미세먼지 종합대책'을 수립하여 추진하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 부산항 내 운영 중인 항만 내 대기오염측정소 데이터를 포함한 항만 인근지역과 타항만의 미세먼지 농도를 분석하였으며, 부산항만공사에서 추진한 항만 하역장비 대기오염물질 배출량 조사결과와 '야드트랙터 LNG 연료전환사업', 'AMP설비 설치사업' 등 '부산항 미세먼지 종합대책'과 그 성과를 소개하고 있다.

  • 블록 트랜스포터는 조선 산업의 생산필드에서 많은 물류비용과 생산지연비용을 유발시킨다. 이러한 트랜스포터를 효율적으로 운용하기 위해서는 운송경로의 최적화가 필요하고, 운송경로를 최적화하기 위해서는 실시간으로 트랜스포터의 위치를 확인하는 과정이 선행되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 실시간으로 블록 트랜스포터의 위치를 측위하기 위해 모바일 RFID를 이용한 실시간 위치 측위 구현 방법을 제안하였다. 스마트폰에 포함된 모바일 RFID 리더기를 사용하여 트랜스포터에 부착되어 있는 RFID TAG를 인식하여 트랜스포터의 이름 및 하중 정보등을 수신 받고, GPS 및 AP를 이용한 위치측위 정보를 트랜스포터 정보와 함께 서버로 전송한다. 서버로 전송된 정보를 통해 선박 블록 이동을 위한 효율적인 배차를 가능하게 하여 조선 산업 전체 공정에 대한 관리를 강화할 수 있다.
