  • Gravity method produces subsurface density distribution, which is direct information of soundness of basement. Therefore, microgravity is one of the most effective method for detections of limestone cavities, abandoned mine-shafts and other tunnels, The paper show the effectiveness of microgravity by three different field cases.

A Study of Carvernous Limestone Aquifer of Jeon Cheon Basin (전천 석회암 대수층에 관한 연구)

  • In the Jeon Cheon Basin, unconsolidated alluvium and marine clay beds overlying Tertiary conglomerate and impermeable mudstone, and Cambro-Ordovician sedimentary rocks composed of mainly cavernous limestones, and age-unknowned crystalline rocks are occured. Most productive rock is Cambro-Ordovician limestones containing a lot of solution openings and secondary porosities and shows its transmissivity of 1836$m^2$/day and storativity of 1.47 $\times$ $10^{-3}$. The storage of deep seated groundwater in linestone aquifer is estimated about 1059 $\times$ $10^6$ metric tons, being equivalent to 6 years total precipitation of the basin. The safe yield of the groundwater to be abstracted from the aquifer is about 126,000 tons/day. To pump at least 100,000 tons/day of groundwater from the said aquifer, a well field comprising 34 deep wells ranging in depth from 80 to 100 meter and penetrating the cavernous limestone aquifer shall be established at middle and down stream area.

  • 석회동굴은 Karst지형 지역에서 지하 형성물로 나타나는 공동지역으로, 이 공동화된 공간에 2차적으로 석순, 석주, 종유석등이 침전되어 생긴 동굴이다. 이런 Karst 지형은 석회암지층에서 용식작용으로 생겨나는데, 우리나라에서는 황해도의 서흥, 신막, 수안, 곡산 물질지역과 평안남도의 덕천, 성천, 강동지방, 그리고 강원도의 삼척, 영월, 평창, 정선, 명주지방, 충청북도의 단양, 제천, 괴산지역 그밖에 경상북도의 울진 지역에도 분포한다.(중략)

  • Recently, complaints or environmental problems caused by the noise and dust generated from crusher of the mine and quarry are emerging. Therefore mining facilities such as crushers and mills have been installed in an underground. In order to facilitate crusher equipments in the underground, excavation of large space is required and then the stability of the large space underground structure is an important issue. In this study, the blast experiments, which use a block of the limestone, are performed. Based on the blast experiments, the numerical model was prepared and simulated using dynamic fracture process analysis code(DFPA) with considering the rising time of applied borehole pressure and microscopic tensile strength variation. Comparing the non-dimensional crack length and no-dimensional tensile strength obtained from blast experiments and numerical analyses, the input parameters of DFPA code for predicting a radial tensile crack in limestone blasting were determined.
