  • The purpose of this study was to understand barriers and problems associated with physical activity of older adults in a small town and to provide improvement plans based on socio-ecological model. This study employed three independent phases including survey, accelerometer study, and photovoice. Three phases were analyzed based on nesting design among diverse mixed method designs. Among 134 older participants, 73 older individuals reported that their physical activity per week was less than 150min in the first phase. Among the 73 older individuals, 40 older individuals participated in the second phase. In the second phase, 32 older individuals does not meet at least 150min of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) suggested by DHHS. Finally, 6 older adults participated in the third phase. Five major themes emerged including 1) lack of proper information and service regarding physical activity, 2)lack of support from people close to them, 3)some limits due to chronic disease, 4)lack of appropriate facility, and 5)lack of opportunity due to existing inactive lifestyle. Based on these five themes, this study attempted to provide the improvement plans with socio-ecological model.

  • The closure of education office is due to a decrease in the number of students, but it is necessary to look at various causes of this decrease. In particular, unlike other regions, Gyeonggi Province has a large number of students due to redevelopment, relocation of businesses, and changes in school districts. In addition, it is necessary to set the overall direction for the use of closed schools and seek ways to establish an efficient operation and management system in preparation for the changing future of the educational environment. Through this study, the closure of schools in Gyeonggi-do is different from that of local schools. The measures to utilize closed schools in Gyeonggi-do Province should be different and contribute to realizing the utilization of closed schools.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the perceptions and tasks of lifelong education for individuals with disabilities, including the necessity of lifelong education and the range and content of it for the disabled. The research method is a focus group interview with 4 managers of lifelong education institutions for the disabled, and the data were analyzed according to the process of thematic analysis method proposed by Braun and Clarke(2006), which is one of qualitative data analysis methods. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, the lifelong education for the disabled is needed, because, unlike the non-disabled, the disabled are less able to recognize and respond to social changes, which requires equipment or convenience facilities to improve it. Second, the range of lifelong education for the disabled was suggested as social life including daily life, vocational ability development education, culture·art·physical training, and those required by individuals with disabilities. Third, the lifelong education institutions for the disabled are lack of experts and have difficulty in communicating between practitioners and the disabled. In conclusion, it is required to provide lifelong education by self-determination of the disabled in the community by priority.

  • The objective of the study was to examine and compare health behavior between rural area and urban area in Soonchun city. Data were collected through personal interviews from 25, April to 30, May in 1998. Questions were asked to the rural area residents(n=399) and urban area residents(n=149) about their health behaviors, including such as self-recognition of health status, health related behaviors(smoking, drinking, eating habit, and exercising), status of disease and prevention, and utilization of hospital. As we examine the demographic characteristics, rural area residents were more aged(p<0.001) than urban area residents. And the urban residents had higher education(p<0.01), higher income(p<0.01) and higher health care cost(p<0.01) than rural residents. There were difference in health status existed between rural and urban residents. Rural residents had poorer health status(p<0.01) than urban residents, and however urban residents had more anxiety about their health(p<0.01) than rural residents. Comparison of the health related behavior between rural and urban area residents, rural residents were more likely to smoke(p<0.05), less intake of milk(p<0.01), do not exercise(p<0.01), and less try to lose their weight(p<0.01) than urban residents. Rural resident used to suffer from chronic diseases than urban residents(p<0.01). Consideration of health care need for rural residents are required due to the results shown as above. Therefore, the health care center, where most of the rural residents depend on for their treatment and prevention of disease, should make inquiries about resident's health care need and evaluate the important information sources for construction of a health care information system.

  • This study evaluated the ecological value of waterside parks by investigating the animal distribution and ecological feature in 92 waterside parks and analyzed the change of ecological awareness by users and non-users of waterside parks through ecological education and promotion based on the investigation results. The result confirmed inhabitation of various animals including 9 endangered species (Pernis ptilorhynchus orientalis, Accipiter soloensis, Falco subbuteo, Charadrius placidus, Felis bengalensis euptilura, Lutra lutra, Kaloula borealis, Polyphylla laticollis manchurica, and Leptalina unicolor) in waterside parks. Although waterside parks were constructed to be hydrophilic areas for human use, some of them with high natural characteristics are valued as biological habitat. We investigated user status in 5 areas (Daejeon, Sejong, Cheongju, Kongju, and Buyeo) located at Guem river basin to evaluate people's perception of waterside parks and carried out the ecological education and promotion based on the investigation result. The survey of 200 people showed that there were more users of waterside parks than non-users and that people in their 40's showed the highest use rate. The use frequency of waterside parks located in Daejeon and Cheongju was lower than in other areas (Sejong, Kongju, and Buyeo). We considered it was because Daejeon and Cheongju were urban areas and had relatively more leisure areas such as sports facilities and cafe than other areas, and thus the residents had a lower reliance on waterside parks. Moreover, users used waterside parks more frequently when they were nearer to users' residence. It is because most users perceived waterside parks as the leisure sports facility and thus preferred them to be within walking distance. The users' perception of waterside parks as the ecological space "to be preserved" increased after the ecological education and promotion. The change of the perception was higher among users (80%) than non-users (38%). Therefore, ecological education and promotion were potentially more effective to people who user waterside parks and thus had a higher understanding of the characteristics and specification. In conclusion, 1) although waterside parks were constructed for human use, some parts had high ecological value for the distribution of endangered species and outstanding natural beauty, and 2) it is necessary to change the perception of waterside parks from the hydrophilic attribute to the conservation attribute. Such change of perception would contribute to establishing waterside parks that feature both hydrophilic and conservation attributes in the management or upgrading plan of waterside parks in the future.

  • The This study aims to verify the causal relationship among physically disability persons participation in exercise, heart rate variance, and facial expression recognition. To achieve such research goal, this study targeted 139 physically disability persons and as for sampling, purposive sampling method was applied. After visiting a sporting stadium and club facilities that sporting events were held and explaining the purpose of the research in detail, only with those who agreed to participate in the research, their heart rate variance and facial emotion awareness were measured. With the results of measurement, mean value, standard deviation, correlation analysis, and structural equating model were analyzed, and the results are as follows. The quantity of exercise positively affected sympathetic activity and parasympathetic activity of autonomic nervous system. Exercise history of physically disability persons was found to have a positive influence on LF/HF, and it had a negative influence on parasympathetic activity. Sympathetic activity of physically disability persons turned out to have a positive effect on the recognition of the emotion, happiness, while the quantity of exercise had a negative influence on the recognition of the emotion, sadness. These findings were discussed and how those mechanisms that are relevant to the autonomic nervous system, facial expression recognition of physical disability persons.
