  • This study was conducted to investigate bird community and to suggest a proper way how to manage protect bird community in Gap stream. The survey was carried out over four sections by the line transect method and point counts method from September 2001 to August 2002. Natural stream region as Gasuwon Bridge - Mannyeon Bridge are observed birds were 11 orders 29 families 67 species, Artificial stream region as Mannyeon Bridge - Daedeok Bridge are observed birds were 6 orders 10 families 30 species, Daedeok Bridge - Wonchon Bridge are 8 orders 12 families 28 species, Wonchon Bridge - Gap Stream Bridge are 8 orders 18 families 40 species. All the observed birds in artificial stream region are 8 orders 19 families 47 species. Number of species in natural stream region was higher than artificial stream region owe to a various habitat environment such as forest, cultivated land, streamside forest, sandy plain, gravelly field, reedy field etc. and can not add with the interface and the usage of the human. Number of species in artificial stream region was lower than natural stream region owe to a simple habitat environment and the water ecosystem is severed with embankment block and grass plot with the land ecosystem. The furtherance of various habitat environment which considers the ecosystem like the natural stream as the water ecosystem is joined together with the land ecosystem is desired to attract various wildbirds in Gap stream. The design is desired with the maintenance of the stream to consider the stream corridor which plays ecological important role as connect the fragment habitats.

  • In this study, not only to present the management plan but also to verify the effectiveness for a area of improving the landscape and the area of creating the base of bio-inhabitation in Tancheon stream concrete embankment where were practised the vegetation-mat measures for greening via monitoring i.e. restoration progress. The results of monitoring, there were a total of 41 taxa, 18 families, 38 species, 3 varieties in 2006, moreover in the 2007, there were a total of 59 taxa, 19 families, 56 species, 3 varieties and in the period 2008, 64 taxa, 29 families, 59 species, 8 varieties. Therefore, these site has increased the plant spaces year by year. The distribution of vegetation characteristics shows that Miscanthus sacchariflorus and Pennisetum alopecuroides expands their influence in the area of applying the construction method. Those area appears a diversity of native species by the stream deposition at the flood. Thus, its condition is very soundly ecological health and eco-friend. At present, native species have been dominant, however, disturbed species and invasive species can be expected to increase dramatically in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to a long-range monitoring and management for maintaining an environmentally sound aquatic ecosystem. On this area refer to mix the river vegetation of primary succession and disturbed vegetation. For that reason, the method of constructing the vegetation-mat measures for greening in embankment does not need to remove the concrete and can install a coir-mat on the top. It leads to improve the landscape, moreover, it was analysed the such dramatic changes in the vegetation species richness by providing continuous the plant growth basis have a impact on in bio-diversity.

  • Recently public concerns about the endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC) have resulted in the increased legistrative and regulatory attentions in many countries. Endocrine disrupter is an exogeneous chemical interfering the synthesis, transport binding, action or elimination of natural hormones in the body, which are responsible for the maintenance of homeostasis, reproduction, development and/or behavior. Reported possible harmful effects on human and animal lives, possible developmental anomalities, reproductive malfunctions and behaviors, and the ways of EDC accumulation in animal kingdom are reviewed. The current scientific papers and knowledges on the global contamination of EDCs demonstrates the conclusive data that EDCs have the potentials to cause the calamitous extermination of human and animal species by the global contamination.

  • Acetaminophen (paracetamol), generally used as a pain reducing agent, has good analgesic efficacy in toothaches and headaches, but is of little use in inflammatory and visceral pain. This study was performed to analyze the level of acetaminophen in the Kyongahn river and to investigate the ecological risks of target compounds. Sampling sites were Haesil, Soopyo, Wangsan, Kyongahn, Jiwol, Kwangdong, Paldang and they were analyzed in June and August, 2005. Acute toxicity of acetaminophen wwas evaluated for Daphnia magna. From the ecotoxicological results, environmental risk assessments were performed for acetaminophen residues in Kyongahn river to predict their potential adverse effect. Acetaminophen was detected at Kyonahn river, $0.439{\mu}g/l$). The toxic concentration of acetaminophen calculated with 48-h $LC_{50}$ values as 16.9 mg/l. These results indicated that acetaminophen had no significant ecotoxicological impact on short-term acute exposure.

  • Nauralized plants in Ulleungdo were enlisted as 65 taxa, 21 families,49 genera,63 species and 2 varieties by field survey and flora lists of literature cited. Family Compositae covered 27.7% and Family Gramineae, Family Leguminosae and Family Polygonaceae covered 7.7% each. In this study, the nine taxa such as Rumex nipponicus, Trifolium campestre, Oxalis articulata, Anthriscus caucalis, Ipomoea purpurea, Coreopsis Ianceolata, Galinsoga parviflora, Tritonia crocosmaeflora and Festuca arundinacea are added as Nauralized plants in Ulleungdo. Annual plants ratio is 36.9% by life-form spectrum and Europe ratio is 40.0% by origin. The Urbanization Index was 22.0 and the Ratio of Naturalized has increased by flora lists of literature cited each. Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior is growing in Ulleungdo by a plant cause disturbance. Spread prevention and minimization incoming of gardening plants by management plan of naturalized plants might be required. Moreover, it is needed to induce the succession for the recovery of the cut-slope using the native plants.

  • The freshwater lakes located at the fringe of urban cities are a habitat for diverse organisms. However, they are facing severe danger of environment deterioration and water pollution caused by reckless development of the area. In this study, an ecological management plan was suggested to promote the biodiversity through appointing management area based on the research and analysis data of flora and fauna as well as maintain biodiversity and harmonize utilization of freshwater lakes such as Duryang Reservoir at Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do. Base on the data of ecological research and analysis, this study conducted research on biotope assessment, wild life habitat assessment and presence of protected species. As a result, the ecosystem conservation area including multi-layer structured natural forests, waterside and wetland that are home to various species and the edge area with high habitat diversity were recognized as highly preservable regions. Management areas were ecologically disturbed region, highly polluted commercial district and damaged waterside caused by fishing. Proactive management must be implemented through vegetation management such as vegetation transition and shrub planting as well as establishing pollutant management system. The deterioration of waterside and forest vegetation of freshwater lake has a direct influence on biodiversity and water quality. Therefore, the conservation area and development area should be totally separated from each other, and the development area must be restored and managed strictly.
