Factors related to Problem Drinking of Male Workers according to Occupational Classes (남성 근로자의 직종별 문제음주 관련 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to problem drinking in male workers according to occupational classes. Data were derived from the 2012 Korean National Survey on male workers. A total of 391 office workers, 707 manufacturing workers, and 309 service workers participated in this study. Data were analyzed using Rao-Scott $X^2$-test, simple and multiple logistic regressions. Problem drinking was defined as ${\geq}8$ points in the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test. The problem drinking rates were 45.1% in office workers, 39.1% in manufacturing, and 42.3% in service. In office workers, the factor related to problem drinking was only smoking. In manufacturing workers, the factors related to problem drinking were spouse, smoking and prevalence of Diabetes. In service workers, the factors related to problem drinking were age and smoking. Therefore, different intervention should be developed for each occupational class in order to manage the problem drinking in male workers.

A Study on the Differences in Self-perceived Oral Health Levels in Workers at Seoul-Inchon Area (경인지역 근로자의 자기평가 구강건강수준 인식에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to determine potential differences in self-perceived oral health levels between blue-collar and white-collar workers. It is based upon questionnaire survey data dating from Mar. 1 to 30, 2011. All the data collected from 200 blue-collar workers and 100 white-collar worker was analyzed using statistical tools like SPSS ver. 19.0. Self-perceived oral health levels were analysed across three sub-factors - physical, psycho-social, and psychological factors - which were confirmed through factor analysis. The psycho-social factor was statistically significant for age and shift work. Self-perceived oral health levels across the three factors were quantitatively correlated except for psychological factors in blue-collar workers. The study found that occupational group affects workers' self-perceived oral health level. The explanatory power of these 4 variables total 51% in blue-collar group. In case of white-collar group, it was found one variable total 30%. Since oral health levels differ between blue-collar and white-collar workers, oral health promotion projects should differentiate between the two groups, and workers with an interest in their tooth for the prevention, yet negligent act because it will keep your personal oral health care in the prevention-oriented oral health promotion.

Concept Analysis about Workers Health (산업체 근무 생산직 근로자의 건강에 대한 개념분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the phenomenon worker's health as a basis for the future study. Concepts help us to identify how experiences are similar or equivqlent by categorizing all the things that are similar. The concept of health in workers was investigated using the Chinn and Krammer's method. The process of analysis involves choosing the concept, clarifying the purpose, using evidence of data, exploration of context, and value and category formalization. Dimensions of health in workers were identified as follows: \circled1 clinical dimension \circled2 role execution \circled3 coping with dimensia \circled4 mental well being \circled5 possibility \circled6 concrete activity \circled7 symbolization \circled8 hardiness Characteristics of anality of health in workers are activity, dimension of symbolization and of hardiness. Through this study it is identified that health in workers is with the beyond physical well-being, focused functional ability, and harmony environment.

Stress and Coping of Manufacturing Male Workers (생산직 남성 근로자의 스트레스와 대처유형)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify stress and coping patterns of manufacturing male workers. Method: Data were collected from 215 manufacturing male workers and analyzed by SPSS WIN 12.0 Results: The total job stress score was 41.41 and the mean of the daily hassles score was 1.60. Related to the coping type, direct-active coping was the highest among four types of coping. Indirect-active coping was the second, followed by direct-passive coping and indirect-passive coping. Job stress score and daily hassles score were highly correlated by passive coping types. Conclusion: Occupational health management program including coping strategy is required to relieve workers' stress.
