Generally, most people use the photo management method which clusters lots of photos into each folders according to photo shooting time and date. However, since the number of photos to manage is getting more increasing, it takes much time and burdensome work. This paper describes PHOTOLAND, a system that visualizes hundreds of photos on a 2D grid space to help users manage their photos. It closely places similar photos in the grid based on temporal and spatial information. Most photograph management systems use a scrollable view based on a sequential grid layout that arranges the thumbnails of photos in some default order on the screen. Our system decreases drag and drop mouse interaction when they classify their photos into small groups comparing to the sequential grid layout. We conducted experiments to evaluate temporal coherence and space efficiency.
The digital camera is impossible to preserve the appearance of a scene containing high dynamic range due to a limitations of the sensing hardware. The Retinex was proposed on the purpose to solve these problems. While the Retinex enhances visibility and color constancy, it sometimes suffers from color distortion, halo effect and reduced global contrast. This paper presents an advanced Retinex algorithm working on the YCbCr color coordinate to reduce the processing time and to improve the global contrast and color. Simulation results show that our algorithm significantly reduces the total processing time, and provide the superior result image by improving the global contrast and color consistency as well as by reducing the halo effect around the boundaries.

Stauntonia hexaphylla and Raphiolepis indica, cold-tolerant broadleaved evergreens ranging through the southern region of South Korea, were assessed on salt tolerance with NaCl treatment using visual damage, chlorophyll florescence image, and malondialdehyde (MDA) analysis. As NaCl concentrations increased, the soil pH decreased and EC increased, and the soil of S. hexaphylla was affected more strongly by the treatment than that of R. indica. In visual damage, S. hexaphylla withered above 200 mM NaCl at 20 days after the treatment. All individuals of R. indica survived during the experiment though the leaves of R. indica showed visual damages up to 400 mM NaCl. The color changes in chlorophyll fluorescence showed a strong correlation with the degree of visual damage. As NaCl increased, the red color of the leaves of S. hexaphylla was distinctly changed to blue and chlorophyll fluorescence decreased starting from the margin to the middle of a leaf. R. indica showed subtle color changes and remained in red color during the experiment. At five days after the NaCl treatment, the MDA of S. hexaphylla was above $4.56nmol{\cdot}g^{-1}$ when plants showed the highest visual damage and EC. The MDA of R. indica in all treatments showed below $1.5nmol{\cdot}g^{-1}$ except 400 mM NaCl treatment during the experiment.

In the safety diagnosis of fire-damaged concrete structures, it is difficult to evaluate the strength and changes in materials due to high temperatures with the existing durability analysis method. In particular, the compressive strength of specimen with different damage levels by thickness is used as a representative value for reducing the compressive strength of the structural member. In this study, a heating experiment was performed with only top face heating and fully heating conditions at 400℃ to 800℃. After heating, splitting tensile test and color analysis were performed to sliced specimens with a thickness of 20mm accompanied by the compressive test of a fully heated specimen. As a result of the experiment, the compressive strength reduction rate calculated from the splitting tensile strength of every sliced specimen appeared to be within 10% of the fully heated specimen on aver age, and the hue value analysis showed consistent color values were observed by red at 400℃-600℃ and gray at 700℃ or above. It follows that the techniques proposed in this study are reasonably assessable to estimate heated temperature and residual compressive strength and damage depth of concrete.
Internet GIS sites are currently being emersed as one of important places to acquire spatial information in stead of traditional paper map. This paper is intended to identify critical factors in evaluating internet GIS site quality. While there should be a considerable number and variety of factors associated with internet GIS site quality, this paper focuses on the site characteristics that generate visitor satisfaction. After carefully reviewing the previous literature of general website evaluation, four criteria that are critical to internet GIS site quality were identified: (1) contents (2) design (3) navigation (4) spatial analysis. An empirical study for a case study site has been conducted to confirm the validity for the four evaluation factors. A site diagnosis by the criteria provided many valuable information for Web site quality. For example, it was found that many symbols in the site made the visitors confusing and navigation interface was not very user-friendly to track required positional information due to inconsistency in terms of cartographic concept. The results indicate that the evaluation criteria may be used not only as a tool to evaluate internet GIS sites, but also as a checklist to improve the quality of a web site that is under development and requires remodelling. As a result, the research findings have established the new concept of ‘the quality assurance of the internet GIS site’, proposed as an initial aim of this paper Many of the issues unresolved in this project could be improved, based on the understanding of the four criteria suggested in this paper.
As the Internet has been a daily instrument of our lives, the numbers of Internet users are increasing rapidly. Especially, we have to pay special attention to about rapid increasing of juvenile users. In the 1990's, Kids are growing up literally surrounded by new technologies and mu1timedia experiences. For these kids, most of the techno1ologies that we adults find surprising or even incredible are a part of their everyday landscape, a fact of life. Currently, only few of research and discussion has gone into understanding this field. And most of these web sites, set importance on furnishing information only. So educational characters of web are not manifested fully as well as children soon get board with learning with Internet so that feel difficulties in searching and accepting information. At this point, we must try to develop educational sites Not only to show information but also to offer a rich and entertaining time for kids while providing playful teaming and increased technological fluency. Fer this purpose, Web site should be all about combining play with learning. Site navigation should be easy and the pages load quickly. The page download time is also being considerable, which could send kids withy mouse-fingers looking for entertainment elsewhere. Everything about the site must have a familiar feel, uses adequate colors to be satisfied with the juveniles. Multimedia can help the communications in the websites. To maximize the educational effect, technological research and continues invest are need, in addition to usability test.
Image segmentation and supervised classification techniques are widely used to monitor the ground surface using high-resolution remote sensing images. In order to classify various objects, a process of defining a class corresponding to each object and selecting samples belonging to each class is required. Existing methods for extracting class samples should select a sufficient number of samples having similar intensity characteristics for each class. This process depends on the user's visual identification and takes a lot of time. Representative samples of the class extracted are likely to vary depending on the user, and as a result, the classification performance is greatly affected by the class sample extraction result. In this study, we propose an image classification technique that minimizes user intervention when extracting class samples by applying the histogram back-projection technique and has consistent intensity characteristics of samples belonging to classes. The proposed classification technique using histogram back-projection showed improved classification accuracy in both the experiment using hue subchannels of the hue saturation value transformed image from Compact Advanced Satellite 500-1 imagery and the experiment using the original image compared to the technique that did not use histogram back-projection.
In this paper, we introduce a visualization framework for cell image data obtained from optical diffraction tomography (ODT), including a method for representing cell morphology in 3D virtual environment and a color mapping protocol. Unlike commonly known volume data sets, such as CT images of human organ or industrial machinery, that have solid structural information, the cell image data have rather vague information with much morphological variations on the boundaries. Therefore, it is difficult to come up with consistent representation of cell structure for visualization results. To obtain desired visual representation of cellular structures, we propose an interactive visualization technique for the ODT data. In visualization of 3D shape of the cell, we adopt a volume rendering technique which is generally applied to volume data visualization and improve the quality of volume rendering result by using empty space jittering method. Furthermore, we provide a layer-based independent rendering method for multiple transfer functions to represent two or more cellular structures in unified render window. In the experiment, we examined effectiveness of proposed method by visualizing various type of the cell obtained from the microscope which can capture ODT image and fluorescence image together.
The distribution of radionuclides in soil and plants were calculated, assuming an accidental release of radionuclides from Yeonggwang Nuclear Power Plant. The results which show the concentration change with time and regions were displayed by GIS. GIS Included the commercial program, ArcView(ESRI), and a basic digital map of 1:5000 scale for 30km by 30km area around Yeonggwang Nuclear Power Plant. The target material was $^{137}Cs$ in soil around Yeonggwang area. Given denosited $^{137}Cs$ concentrations, ECOREA-II code computed the $^{137}Cs$ concentration of the soil and the plant in the area divided by 16 azimuth, 480 unit cells in total in which the concentrations also varied with time. The results were introduced into the attributed data of previously designed polygon cells in ArcView. In order to display the concentration change with time by monotonic color, the RGB value for ArcView color lamp was controlled. This display is useful for the public to understand the concentration change of radionuclide around Yeonggwang area definitely.
