수산물 EPS상자의 용도가 날로 확대되는 가운데 일본 아오모리현 수산 종합연구센터 증양식 연구소는 가리비 조개의 선도유지를 위한 EPS상자를 개발했다. <월간 포장계> 2009년 2월호에 소개 된 개발 용기 내용을 요약했다.

This study was conducted to develop the corrugated fiberboard box which is suitable to pre-cooling and low temperature distribution of chinese cabbage Consider from a cooling performance viewpoint, the folding type box with 5.4% vent hole ratio was most efficient for fast cooling and even temperature distribution in the packaging box. At the end of storage periods, the compressive strength of the folding type box was less than the bliss type box. However, the compressive strength of the folding type box after storage was higher than required safety compressive strength for long term storage. So the folding type box was considered to have no problems toy practical use. The shelf-life of the chinese cabbage packaged with the developed box was 6∼7 days which was 2∼3 days longer than usual packaging.

협회 최주섭 부회장은 5월 26일부터 3박4일간 일본 츠키지 농수산물도매시장, 환경박람회 등을 한국해양수산개발원, 수산신문, 자원순환사회연대, 구리농수산물도매시장관리공사, 스티로폴 재활용사업자 등과 함께 민산관 합동으로 수산물상자 사용 및 재활용기술에 대한 현지견학을 다녀왔다. 이번 행사는 선진국의 수산물상자 사용 및 재활용실태를 기초로 하여 귀국 후 관련 전문가 간담회를 개최하여 최근 시설 현대화계획 중인 가락동, 노량진, 구리 농수산물도매시장 등 수도권 농수산물도매시장의 수산물 포장상자의 사용 및 재활용방법에 개선방안을 제시함으로서, 수산물의 유통의 청결 유지, 시장 환경 개선 및 포장상자의 자원화에 기여하고자 하였다.

This study was measured weight loss, total ascorbic acid, titratable acidity, and soluble solids content to investigate the effect of EPS(expanded polystyrene foam, foaming rate 55 times V/W) box, LDPE film pouches and double wall corrugated fiberboard box during storage at 20$\^{C}$. Weight loss of apple packed with corrugated paperboard box after 40 days storage was 5.7%, arid those of LDPE, CE(zeolited coated film) film and EPS box were 0.2-0.5%. Ascorbic acid content of apple packed with LDPE, CE, EPS was higher than that of control. Titratable acidity and total soluble solid content of control were changed 40% and 10%, but the EPS were changed 27% and 4%, respectively. Overall appearances of ‘Fuji’apple packed with LDPE, CE and EPS were better than that of control.

Packaging bags and corrugated boxes prepared from newly developed antimicrobial packaging paper had greater ability to prolong freshness of packed fruits, and lower weight loss of fruits and microbial growth than non-treated bags and boxes. Addition of zeolite to paper greatly increased absorbance of aging hormone, $C_{2}H_{4}$, emitted from stored fruits, and contributed to decrease in putrefied fruits during storage. Water repellent agent such as alkyl ketone dimer played significant role in preventing functional paper from absorbing water from stored fruits, leading to preservation of fresh weight in stored fruits. Because rise in production cost of functional packaging paper could be offset by reduction of fruit and vegetable wastes, storing fruits and vegetables in functional paper containers was more economical than storing in non-treated containers.

이번호에 소개되는 모자모양의 매직상자는 골판지로 만든 상자 중 가장 손쉽게 만들 수 있는 원통 상자를 응용한 제품이다. 매직상자는 정성껏 준비한 발렌타인데이와 화이트데이의 기획제품을 담아 판매하거나 매장의 디스플레이용으로 진열해도 손색없는 상자포장이다.

과실 포장화물(packaged freight)은 과실, 완충재 및 겉포장 상자로 구성되며, 속포장(내포장)하지 않는 것이 식품 포장이나 다른 포장과 구별된다. 그러나 과실 개개를 보호하기 위한 낱포장(단위포장)은 중요시되며, 사용되는 완충재가 이 기능을 한다. 과실 포장에 사용되는 겉포장 상자는 제품 취급의 편리성을 도모할 뿐만 아니라, 물류 과정 중에 제품의 보호와 상품에 대한 정보를 제공하는 포장 역할의 주체가 된다. 또한 완충재는 포장물에 전달되는 충격과 진동 등의 외력 완화와 응력 분산, 포장물의 표면보호, 상호간의 접촉방지 및 이동방지의 기능을 수행한다. 종전까지는 골판지 상자에 의한 포장화물 단위로 취급되는 경우가 대부분 이었는데, 농산물의 물류합리화와 물류비 절감 문제가 본격 대두되면서, 팰리트를 활용한 단위화물 적재 시스템(ULS) 즉, 팰리트 화물(palletized freight) 상태로 취급되는 경우가 점차 확대되고 있고 정부에서도 이를 적극 지원하고 있다.
