The Effect of Psychological Characteristics and Competency Factors of Traditional Market Merchants on Business Performance: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of Government Support Policies (전통시장 상인의 심리적 특성과 역량요인이 사업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study identifies related factors by analyzing the effects of the psychological characteristics and competency factors of traditional market merchants on business performance, and at the same time verifies the moderating effect of government support policies. The research focus was on verifying the causal relationship. This study was conducted targeting the representative traditional market merchants in the metropolitan area who have experience in traditional market specialization projects or are currently in the process of specialization projects. An empirical study was performed based on the collected data. The analysis results are as follows. First, it was found that self-esteem as a psychological characteristic factor of merchants, customer management competency as merchant competency, and informatization capability had a significant positive (+) effect on financial performance among business performance. Second, as a result of examining the moderating effect of government support policies, it was found that product capability had a significant positive (+) effect on financial performance among business performance. It was found that self-esteem and product competency had a significant positive (+) effect on the will to continue business among business performance. The practical results of this study are the research papers to measure the business performance of traditional market merchants using the government support policy as a moderating variable, using the psychological characteristics and competency factors of traditional market merchants as independent variables. For this purpose, it will be positively evaluated that the psychological characteristics of merchants and merchant competency factors affect business performance, and that meaningful research results are derived by analyzing the moderating effect of government support.

  • This study focuses on analyzing the key success factors of the traditional market by analyzing the impact on the business performance of merchants in the traditional market. Based on the existing research on entrepreneurship, psychological characteristics, capabilities, and physical characteristics of the market were considered as merchant characteristics. As a result, the risk characteristics and merchant pride, which are internal characteristics of merchants, have a significant effect on business performance. Among the competencies of merchants, product competency, customer management competency, and price competency were found to have a significant impact on business performance. Among the physical characteristics of the market, reputation and product diversity were found to have a significant effect on business performance. The results of this study are meaningful to empirically prove the relevance of the merchant's internal characteristics and capabilities, and the market's physical characteristics to the business performance of market merchants. Could be utilized. However, the limitation of this study is that there may be differences in each industry in the case of market merchant products. In future studies, empirical studies on the trader's relevance to business capability and business performance should be continued.

  • This study analyzes business performance factors for young startup, one of the solutions to the youth unemployment problem, and explored the effects of individual characteristics, capability, and environmental factors of young entrepreneurs on business performance. The study targets young traders operating in traditional markets and shopping streets nationwide. The 159 sample data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and Smart PLS 2.0 for frequency analysis, reliability and validity analysis. The Entrepreneur's individual characteristics such as challenge spirit, start-up capability, and market characteristics affect absorptive capacity and interorganizational network. And absorptive capacity and interorganizational network affect financial and non-financial business performance. As a result, it was found that young traders need to reinforce their individual characteristics, start-up capability, and interorganizational networks in order to improve business performance. This study is intended to provide theoretical and practical implications.

The Impacts of Entrepreneurial Proclivity and Merchandising Strategy on Conventional Market and Its Policy Implications (한국 재래시장상인의 창업가정신과 상품화 전략이 시장이미지와 경영성과에 미치는 영향과 재래시장 정책에 대한 시사점)

  • The main purpose of this study is to define relevant factors that influence successful start-ups and management innovations of traditional markets from the point of market structures and relations. To do this, we devide an entrepreneurship of merchant into two factors, risk taking and managerial experience and choose product planning and its implementation to see merchandising of traditional markets. In this study we identify that several factors we chose are contributing to generating management performances through market promotional parameters. Also we confirm that image factors of traditional markets is consist of awareness and value of markets, and that these factors shows some sequential and continual patterns in the course of generating performances. In additions, it is identified that four independent factors have positive effects to star-up success; risk taking 0.29(t 2.61), managerial experience 0.04(t 1.79), merchandising implementation 0.374(t 2.61), market value 0.47(t 5.25), market awareness 0.22(t 2.30). This study can help merchants of traditional markets to make and change their market strategies, restructure their businesses and survive in the field. This also provide some ideas and guidances to relevant government agencies in formulating traditional market policies.
