Performance Test of Turbopump Assembly for 75 Ton Liquid Rocket Engine Using Model Fluid (75톤급 액체로켓엔진용 터보펌프 조립체의 상사매질 성능시험)

  • Performance test of a full-scale turbopump assembly for a 75 ton class liquid rocket engine was carried out at full speed. Model fluid was used as a working medium: liquid nitrogen for the oxidizer pump, water for the fuel pump, and hot air for the turbine. The turbopump was operated stably, satisfying the performance requirements. Head coefficient and flow coefficient of the pumps remained constant at the speed-increasing period. In terms of performance characteristics of pumps and turbine, the results from the turbopump assembly test showed a good agreement with those from the turbopump component tests.

  • The transverse cylindrical projection has been used in Korea since 1910s when the nationwide geodetic network was firstly established. However, the projection has a number of different types of functions according to a way of its mathematical derivation as well as a section of its coefficients and terms, for instance Gauss- Schreiber(GS) and Gauss-Kruger(GK) types. Although the transverse cylindrical projection itself is assigned to a system, projected coordinates would be diverse with respect to the function used in the actual calculation. In order to investigate impact of functions used in the computation, five different equations (i.e., 2 GS and 3 GK) were implemented in this study by using MATLAB. A series of numerical simulation tests has been carried out to compare and characterize them in terms of projection accuracy, difference of projected coordinates and distortion. Furthermore, a comparison between GS and GK function was made under the Korean gridding system, consisting of four zones. Results from the numerical computations were qualitatively analyzed and summarized in this paper.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the turbine performance of a turbopump in the third stage engine of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II. The turbine is a supersonic impulse type with a single rotor. One nozzle is for starting and four remaining nozzles are for steady operation. A similarity test was carried out in the high air test facilities at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. Test results showed that turbine efficiency changed much more from rotational speed variations than by pressure ratio variations. These results showed characteristics similar to other supersonic impulse turbines.

  • In this paper, a thrust prediction method for a developing vertical launching missile is proposed through considering a verified vertical launching missile(a baseline missile) as a model. In order to predict thrust profile of a developing vertical launching missile, both Similarity law and Pi theory are applied to the model. By comparing prediction results based on the 6-DOF program of a baseline missile with simulation results of a developing vertical launching missile, the proposed method has been indirectly verified.

  • When plan breakdown by permeation of fill dam, bank by original decision scale model test of sound, original decision scale model test of sound that destroy having used water was carried out. And original decision scale model test of sound that use viscous fluid is carried out, but doubt remains in experiment result in state that verification of law of similarity is not achieved.   • The critical speed of railway bogie is very important in terms of the verification of the vehicle design procedure and safety. The dynamic performance of bogie is tested on the railway roller rig in a laboratory in place of field testing on track. But, the testing on the full scale roller rig caused many problems relating to test costs, test time and has the difficulty in test condition setup. To overcome these problems, scaled models were used in the filed of railway vehicle design and test. In this paper, we have studied the critical speed of scaled bogie model. We have made the 1/5 scaled bogie, the scaled roller rig and analyzed the critical speed of the scaled bogie through the numerical simulation and running test of the scaled bogie. We have confirmed that the analysis results of the critical speed correspond with the test results.

  • Small-scale models have been frequently used for seismic performance tests because of limited testing facilities and economic reasons. However, there are not enough studies on similitude law for analogizing prototype structures accurately with small-scale models, although conventional similitude law based on geometry is not well consistent in the inelastic seismic behavior. When fabricating prototype and small-scale model of reinforced concrete structures by using the same material, added mass is demanded from a volumetric change and scale factor could be limited due to aggregate size. Therefore, it is desirable that different material is used for small-scale models. Thus, a modified similitude law could be derived depending on geometric scale factor, equivalent modulus ratio and ultimate strain ratio. In this study, compressive strength tests are conducted to analyze the equivalent modulus ratio of micro-concrete to normal-concrete. Then, equivalent modulus ratios are divided into multi-phase damage levels, which are basically dependent on ultimate strain level. Therefore, an algorithm adaptable to the pseudodynamic test, considering equivalent multi-phase similitude law based on seismic damage levels, is developed. Test specimens, consisted of prototype structures and 1/5 scaled models as a reinforced concrete column, were designed and fabricated based on the equivalent modulus ratios already defined. Finally quasistatic and pseudodynamic tests on the specimens are carried out using constant and variable modulus ratios, and correlation between prototype and small-scale model is investigated based on their test results. It is confirmed that the equivalent multi-phase similitude law proposed in this study could be suitable for seismic performance tests on small-scale models.
