  • This study was investigated to identify the factors influencing health related quality of life in older women with low muscle strength in Korea. The study design was a cross sectional study based on 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data and the data were analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 program. The level of Health related Quality of Life(HRQoL) in older women with low muscle strength was 0.84. There were significant differences on HRQoL according to age, education level, perceived health, aerobic exercise, perceived stress, arthritis, osteoporosis and depression. The risk factors of HRQoL in older women with low muscle strength were age, education level, perceived health, perceived stress, aerobic exercise and arthritis. Based on this results to improve HRQoL, physical activity intervention should be developed to improve muscle strength and to manage arthritis in older women.

  • The quality of life is emphasized as one of the important issue in modern society. Such attention to quality of life started getting more attention lately as it is coupled with the country's competitiveness. In spite the quality of life is very significant, the level of the quality of life in the country is not satisfactory. So, the purpose of this study was to analyze the Korean standard measuring technology in terms of the QOL. First, We identified constructs of the QOL on the basis of several studies to derive an analytical framework. Then, We analyzed the distribution of the measurement standard technology in the country in accordance with the framework. The results of the analysis, many of the current measurement technologies described it regardless of the quality of life. Even if the technologies are relevant. they showed a state biased to the economic QOL. This means that QOL was not considered in the measurement technology standard. Therefore the further improved will be needed.

This study used data from the 7th-3 Period Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Data were analyzed using the SPSS program. The health related quality of life of living-alone elderly was lower than that of living-together elderly. The significant predictors of health related quality of life of living-alone elderly were depression, subjective health status, age, stress. The significant predictors of health related quality of life of living-together elderly were depression, subjective health status, age, gender. injury, stress. These results suggested that the living type affect the health related quality of life. The influencing factors should be reflected in the relevant program development.

  • This study examined how walking moderates the influence of depression on quality of life in elderly. Data of the study were analysed using the sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V-2, 2014). The subjects were elderly aged 65 years or more and the number of the sample was 1,263. Using hierarchial regression analysis, walking as a moderator of the depression and quality of life relationship was examined. Quality of life for elderly showed significant differences according to sex(t=8.26, p<.001), age(t=5.19, p<.001), number of chronic disease(F=37.88, p<.001), depression(t=9.62, p<.001) and walking per week (t=47.36, p<.001). Walking moderated the relationship between depression and quality of life in elderly. Based on these findings, the enhancement of walking in depressed elderly is recommended to promote the quality of life.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this article was to evaluate the health related quality of life (HRQoL) of cancer survivors and to identify its predictors according to gender. Methods: The research was conducted with the data for 203 (cancer survivors?) taken from the 6th wave of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the EQ-5D index score was used for the measurement of the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The independent variables inluded socio-demographic data, health related factors (survival duration, disability, subjective health recognition), and psychosocial factors (stress, unmet medical needs). The data were analyzed by the t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: the HRQoL of the female cancer survivors was significantly worse than that of the males in terms of their mobility, usual activities, pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression quality of life. The only statistically significant factor affecting the HRQoL of the male cancer survivors was their subjective health recognition. In the case of the female cancer survivors, the statistically significant factors were their age, subjective health recognition and unmet medical needs. Conclusions: the results of this study showed a different pattern of predictors according to the gender of the cancer survivors. Therefore, gender should be considered when assessing and addressing the individual care needs of cancer survivors, in order to obtain optimal treatment outcomes.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sedentary time on quality of life and oral health-related behaviors using the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 19,983 data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 25.0 program, and complex sample logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the effect of sedentary time on health-related quality of life and oral health-related behaviors. As a result, the longer the sitting time, the worse the quality of life (p<.05). There was an increase in the number of cases of not brushing (p<.05). Also, as for dental treatment, the longer the sitting time, the more prophylactic treatment and periodontal treatment increased (p<.05). Therefore, it is judged that it can be used as basic data to improve the quality of life and increase oral health-related behaviors in consideration of the socio-demographic characteristics of prolonged sedentary time.

  • This study was conducted to identify the factors affecting the quality of life of cancer patients based on demographic characteristics, health status, and mental health using the results of the 6th National Health and Nutrition Survey. The research tool used the demographic characteristics, health status, mental health, and quality of life of the KNHANES VI-2. Data analysis was conducted using SAS 9.3 version. There were significant differences in the quality of life in the study results by age, gender, economic activity, individual income quartile, subjective health status, mental health status, activity limitation, stress perception, and experience of depression symptoms. Factors influencing the quality of life of cancer patients included age, sex, income quintiles(individual), subjective health status, activity limitation, and experience of depression symptoms, which together explained 39.1% of the quality of life. To improve the quality of life of cancer patients, comprehensive management is required from diagnosis to treatment to return to society. It is also necessary to develop and apply long-term programs including multidimensional approaches and improvement of quality of life, early screening of cancer and cancer prevention education, management of depression symptoms, and social support.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the correlation between oral frailty and health-related quality of life (HINT-8) among older adults in Korea. Methods: The data of 1,318 individuals aged ≥65 years who participated in the eighth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019) were analyzed using complex sample statistical analysis. Results: Chewing discomfort was found to decrease the HINT-8 scores by 1.246, 1.324, and 1.089 times in the physical, social, and mental domains, respectively. Speech discomfort was found to decrease the HINT-8 scores by 1.275, 1.449, and 1.175 times in the physical, social, and mental domains, respectively. The HINT-8 scores of participants with ≤19 natural teeth were lower in the physical and social domains. Similarly, the HINT-8 scores of participants with brushing frequency of ≤2 were lower in the positive health domain. Non-use of oral hygiene products led to a reduction in the HINT-8 score in the social health domain. Conclusions: Oral frailty in older adults reduces the health-related quality of life. Thus, it is necessary to formulate policies to manage oral frailty in this population and develop specialized programs for the management of oral frailty.
