Design and Implementation of an Application to cure Wounded Heart of the Youth using Color (색채를 이용한 청소년의 마음상처 치유 어플리케이션 설계 및 구현)

  • The purpose of this study is to design and implement an application for the smartphone in order to cure the wounded heart of the youth. The heart of the youth can be wounded regardless of their willingness in growing. Not only the wounded heart is hardly cured, but also it can diverse the direction of one's life. It has been tried to adopt color reflection to the smartphone which is accustomed to them. A color reflection curing application based on the smartphone is designed and implemented. The application has been tested with 15 teachers, they were satisfied with it.

The Influence of Cognitive Coping on Hope, Depression and Satisfaction with Life in Hemodialysis Patients (혈액투석환자의 인지적 대처전략에 따른 희망, 우울 및 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향 정도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships between cognitive coping, hope, depression, and life satisfaction of hemodialysis patients based on the stress-coping model. Methods: For this cross-sectional survey, 142 participants were recruited from 10 local clinics in Seoul and Daegu during 2012-2013. The data collection instruments included the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, the Herth Hope Index, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The cognitive coping scores were significantly related to hope, depression, and life satisfaction. The coping strategies explained 80%, 37%, and 38% of the variances in hope, depression, and life satisfaction, respectively. The most powerful coping strategy was positive refocusing, explaining 73% in hope, 25% in depression, and 25% in life satisfaction. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that cognitive coping plays an essential role for psychological adaptation of hemodialysis patients. Thus, interventions integrating positive refocusing would help instilling hope of hemodialysis patients in Korea.

The Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Quality of Life in Dental Technicians (치과기공사에 있어서 직무만족도와 삶의 질의 관련성)

  • This study was carried out to measure job satisfaction and quality of life and to clarify the factors in job satisfaction which influence on quality of life of dental technicians, using developed tools for job satisfaction and WHOQOL-BREF for quality of life. The subjects for this study were 238 people who worked the in the Daegu-Kyungbuk area. The results of this study were as follows; the general characteristics that influenced job satisfaction, were especially education, hobbies, salary level, job career and work hours. The factors that influenced the quality of life, were especially Married status, hobbies, job position, and office hours. All subfactors in job satisfaction were related to each other. Growth-development factor was intensely related with recognition factor. Also, all subfactors in quality of life were in positive relation to each other, especially psychological domain was highly related with social domain. Factors of safety, recognition and accomplishment in job satisfaction intensely affected quality of life. Therefore, It is suggested that social recognition for dental technician should be promoted and it might be needed to adjust office hours and support hobby life.

The Effect of obesity, depression, self esteem, body image on adolescents' life satisfaction (청소년의 비만, 우울, 자아존중감 및 신체 이미지가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purposes of this study were to investigate the life satisfaction, obesity, depression, self esteem, body image of adolescents by their demographic characteristics, to analyze factors impacting on life satisfaction, and to provide basic data to intervention programs for bright and healthy development. Methods: The data in this study came from the Korea Youth Survey Data collected through questionnaires from 10,156 students. To investigate the causal relationship between each variable presented in the research model, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis were carried out by using SPSS Ver. 18.0. Results: The most impacting factor on adolescents' life satisfaction were the self-esteem and depression, followed by the economic level, regular exercise, and regular eating. In conclusion, the strongest factors that influenced adolescents' life satisfaction were self-esteem and depression. Also we found that regular eating, regular exercise, and adequate sleep were the important causes of raising adolescents' life satisfaction. Conclusions: In order to enhance the adolescents' life satisfaction, we should make an effort to increase self-esteem, to prevent obesity, and to reduce depression through regular exercise and eating, adequate sleep. Therefore, it is important to recognize the importance of regular exercise and eating through health education. In addition, it is needed desperately to develop sleeping education program and to efforts to ensure sleeping right of adolescents.

Effects of Social Support and Resilience on Child Care Teachers' Life Satisfaction (보육교사의 사회적 지지와 회복탄력성이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: This study examined the effects of social support and resilience on life satisfaction of child care teachers. Methods: This study was conducted by sampling 162 child care teachers who participated in job training courses in the Gyeongsangbuk-do region. Three kinds of variables, which included social support, resilience, and life satisfaction were measured. The collected data were analyzed using PASW 18.0 program for windows. Results: First, social support, resilience, and life satisfaction of the child care teachers were generally above normal. The resilience subscale showed the highest score in 'affirmative', followed by 'interpersonal ability', 'self-control ability'. And the 'support of colleagues' was higher than 'support of superior' in the social support's subscale. Next, there were no significant differences in social support by child care teachers' background, but there were significant differences in resilience and life satisfaction of child care teachers' according to their working center types and academic levels. Second, life satisfaction was positively correlated with social support, and resilience. The 'affirmative', 'support of superior' variables were factors that predicted life satisfaction. Conclusion/Implications: We suggested ways to increase the life satisfaction of child care teachers through the 'affirmative' and 'support of superior' variables.

A Longitudinal Study on the Effect of Adolescents' Mastery Goal Orientation on Life Satisfaction: Mediating Effect of School Adjustment (청소년의 숙달목적지향성이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향에 대한 종단연구: 학교적응의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of school adjustment in the relationship between adolescents' mastery goal orientation and life satisfaction, and the differences according to gender in the relationship. Methods: The participants were 1,947 students from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th waves of the Korean Child Youth Panel Study(KCYPS). The data were analyzed with structural equation modeling(SEM) and multiple group analysis. Results: First, school adjustment of 1st graders in middle school mediated the relation between mastery goal orientation of 6th graders in elementary school and life satisfaction of 2nd graders in middle school. Second, the differences in gender were confirmed. The effect of mastery goal orientation of 6th graders in elementary school on school adjustment of 1st graders in middle school is higher for boys. In contrast, the effect of school adjustment of 1st graders in middle school on life satisfaction of 2nd graders in middle school is higher for girls. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggested that mastery goal orientation before entering middle school and school adjustment after entering middle school could be important variables to increase adolescents' life satisfaction. Also, it is necessary to consider gender difference for long-term intervention for improving adolescent life satisfaction.

Comparison of Self-esteem, Perceived Life Satisfaction, Depression and Aggression According to Experience of Suicidal Impulse in Adolescents (청소년의 자살충동 경험 유무에 따른 자아존중감, 지각된 삶의 만족, 우울 및 공격성 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare self-esteem, perceived life satisfaction, depression and aggression according to the experience of suicidal impulse in adolescents. Methods: Data were collected from 249 middle and high school students in J city. The constructed questionnaires included items on self-esteem, perceived life satisfaction, depression and aggression. Results: Self-esteem, perceive life satisfaction, depression, and aggression differed significantly between the suicidal impulse group and non-suicidal impulse group. The suicidal impulse group experienced lower self-esteem (OR=3.27), higher depression (OR=12.38) and higher aggression (OR=5.72) than the non-suicidal impulse group. Conclusion: The findings indicate that integrated and effective interventions are needed to prevent suicidal attempts by adolescents who had experiences of suicidal impulse. Information on the cognitive, psychological and social characteristics of adolescents must be considered when developing the interventions.

  • Due to the rapid development of information communication technology, employees have conducted their tasks with smart devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs in the midst of after work hours. In line with this phenomenon, we have examined the relationships among technostress, work connectivity behavior after hours (WCBA) and technostress inhibitors and job satisfaction. Based on the results of prior research, we developed and tested our research model which posits the certain factors such as technostress, WCBA and technostress inhibitors affect work-life conflicts which, in turn influence employees' job satisfaction. Survey data collected from 345 users who have experiences on using smart devices was used to test the model using PLS (partial least squares). In this study, we found that technostress and WCBA were positively related to the work-life conflicts. We also found that the relationship between technostress inhibitors and job satisfaction was significant. The implications of these findings for both research and practice are discussed.

The Effect of Social Support on Adolescents' School-Related Adjustments: The Mediation Effect of Life Satisfaction (사회적지지가 남녀청소년의 학교적응에 미치는 영향: 삶의 만족도의 매개효과)

  • The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social support, life satisfaction, and school-related adjustments of adolescents. The participants were 260 junior high school students (140 male and 120 female students) from the Seoul area. They completed questionnaires on social support, life satisfaction, and school-related adjustments. The collected data were analyzed using basic descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and a multiple regression analysis. Baron and Kenny's method was used and examined, and the Sobel test was performed to determine the mediating model's significance. It was adapted to SPSS ver. 19.0 for Windows. The major findings were as follows: first, social support (parents/teacher/friend) was positively correlated with the adolescents' school-related adjustment. Second, the adolescents' life satisfaction was also positively correlated with the adolescents' school-related adjustments. In addition, social support was positively correlated with life satisfaction. It was further found that the adolescents' life satisfaction tended to play a perfectly/partially mediating role between social support and school-related adjustment; that is, social support (parents/teacher/friend) was shown to have not only a direct effect, but also an indirect effect through the adolescents' life satisfaction, on the school-related adjustments. These results clearly indicated that adolescents' life satisfaction plays a crucial role in the relationship between social support and the adolescents' school-related adjustments.
