Analysis of Nutritional Components of Cornus officianalis (산수유의 영양성분 분석)

  • To accept basic data of utilizing of Comus of officianalis as a raw material of new food and industrial products, major chemical components were investigatied. Comparing proximate composition of flesh and seed of Cornus officianalis, seed contained higher crude ash, crude protein, crude fat and crude fiber, with less moisture and reducing sugar. The main components of free sugars in flesh and seed were fructose. The main components of organic acid in fresh and seed were malic and citric acid. Analysing total amino acids, 18 kinds of components were isolated from Cornus officianalis. The total amino acid contents of flesh and seed were 230.41 mg% and 883.81 mg%, respectively. Although the amino acid compositions of flesh and seed were different, glycine, leucine, histidine and lysine were the major components in both portion. The total amount of free amino acid were less than those of total amino acids. As a results of mineral analysis, the content of K was much higher than those of Fe, Zn and Cu. The contents of linolenic and linoleic acid were higher than those of oleic, palmitic and stearic acid.

Effect of Complex Extract Including Cornus officinalis on the Cimetidine/Ethanol-induced Erectile Dysfunction Model in Rats (산수유를 포함한 복합추출물이 cimetidine으로 발기부전을 유도한 동물모델에서 성기능 개선 효과)

  • Erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence, is the inability to attain and sustain an erection firm enough to have sexual intercourse. Frequent ED may be a symptom of health problems including heart disease, obesity, alcoholism, stress, smoking, and depression, that need treatment. This study aimed to effect of complex extract (CPL) including Cornus officinalis on sexual function factor in the erectile dysfunction rat model. The erectile dysfuction rat model was induced by cimetidine (500 mg/kg in 5% ethanol, oral injection 2 weeks). Rats were oral administered with different concentration of CPL in rat erectile dysfunction model. As a results, sexual function factors (NO, cGMP) significantly improved in CPL treated groups (CPL-300, 600, 900 mg/kg) compared to CON group. Serum testosterone was increased in a dose-dependent manner after CPL treatment. Furthermore, administrations of CPL restored lumen areas of the prostate in the erectile dysfunction rat model. These results indicated that CPL alleviated erectile dysfunction by increasing sexual function factor and testosterone in rat model. CPL could be used to natural treatement for erectile dysfunction. However, further study is required to identify active ingredient and its mechanism of erectile dysfunction.

Biological Activities of Ethanol Extract from Corni fructus (산수유 에탄올 추출물의 생리활성)

  • In order to use Corni fructus as functional food materials, we investigated the biological activities of ethanol extracts from Corni fructus (EECF). The hydrogen-donating activity of EECF was increased in a dose dependent manner compared with untreated control, and the activities by EECF were 64 and 74% at 300 and $500{\mu}g/mL$ concentration, respectively. The NO productions in the RAW264.7 marcrophage cells treated with EECF were increased in dose dependent manners. EECF significantly inhibited the growth of MCF-7 human breast cancer cells in dose and time dependent manners. EECF of $500{\mu}g/mL$ concentration inhibited the proliferation by over 60% in the MCF-7 cells when treated for 72 hr. Also, the proliferations were increased in the MCF-7 cells cultured in the charcoal-treated FBS (cFBS) medium with environmental hormones such as bisphenol or $17{\beta}$-estradiol of $0.1{\mu}M$ whereas the proliferations were decreased in the MCF-7 cells treated with the environmental hormones after treatment of EEFC for 72 hr. The results suggest that Corni fructus would be used as functional food materials.

Effects of Cornus Officinalis Extract on Blood Fatigue Substance, Muscle Damage and Liver Function during Winter Training in Middle School Male Soccer Players (동계훈련 시 산수유 추출물 섭취가 남중 축구선수의 혈중 피로물질, 근 손상 및 간 기능에 미치는 영향)

  • Twenty male soccer players volunteered as the experimental subjects. The subjects were randomly assigned to the "Winter training with Cornus officinalis extract intake group"(WCI; n=10) and "Winter training group"(WT; n=10). The variables of blood fatigue substance, muscle damage and liver function where measured in all the subjects before the start of the Cornus officinalis intake after at the end of the 4 weeks winter training. Winter training program was proceeded with 6 days a week for 4 weeks. Exercise intensity was measured using the HRR(70~95%). Changes in the heart rate were also measured with the Polar. WCI group were ingested 80 mL of Cornus officinalis extract after every breakfast and dinner for 4 weeks. The test data were analyzed by paired t-test, and independent t-test(%diff), and the alpha level of p<.05 was set for all tests of significance. Lactate in WCI group had significantly decreased, and the changes between the groups were significantly lower in the WCI group than in the WT group. Ammonia in WCI group had significantly increased. CK in WCI group had significantly decreased. LDH in both group had significantly decreased. AST in WCI group had significantly decreased, and the changes between the groups were significantly lower in the WCI group than in the WT group. ALT in WCI group had significantly decreased. In conclusion, the results of this study show that Cornus officinalis extract seem to have a positive influence on blood fatigue substance, muscle damage and liver function. Therefore Cornus officinalis extract is considered to be able to contribute an ergogenic aids.

괴델의 불완전성 정리:증명된 신화(神話)?

  • 일반적으로 엄밀한 방법을 통하여 증명되었다고 말해지는 괴델의 불완전성 정리는 일련의 전제와 배경지식이 요구된다고 하겠다. 이들 중에서 무엇보다도 중요한 것은 정리의 증명에 사용되는 메타언어상의 수학적 참에 대한 개념이다. 일단 확인할 수 있는 것은 "증명도, 반증도 되지 않지만 참인 산수문장의 존재"라는 불완전성 정리의 내용에서 괴델이 가정하고 있는 수학적 참의 개념이 구문론적인 증명개념으로부터 완전히 독립되어야 한다는 점이다. 문제는 그가 가정하고 있는 수학적 참의 개념이 도대체 무엇이어야만 하겠는가라는 점이다. 이 논문은 이 질문과 관련하여 내용적으로 3부분으로 나누어 질 수 있다. I. 괴델의 정리의 증명에 필요한 전제들 및 표의 도움을 얻어 자세히 제시되는 증명과정의 개략도를 통해 문제의 지형도를 조감하였다. II, III. 비트겐슈타인의 괴델비판을 중심으로, "일련의 글자꼴이 산수문장이다"라는 주장의 의미에 대한 상식적 비판 및 해석에 바탕을 둔 모형이론에 대한 대안제시를 통하여 괴델의 정리를 증명하기 위해 필요한 산수적 참에 관한 전제가 결코 "확보된 것이 아니다"라는 점을 밝혔다. IV. 괴델의 정리에 대한 앞의 비판이 초수학적 전제에 대한 것이라면, 3번째 부분에서는 공리체계에서 생성 가능한 표현의 증명여부와 관련된 쌍조건문이 그 도입에 필수적인 괴델화가 갖는 임의성으로 인해 양쪽의 문장의 참, 거짓 여부가 서로 독립적으로 판단 가능하여야만 한다는 점에(외재적 관계!) 착안하여 궁극적으로 자기 자신의 증명여부를 판단하게 되는 한계상황에 도달할 경우(대각화와 관련된 표 참조) 그 독립성이 상실됨으로 인해 사실상 기능이 정지되어야만 한다는 점, 그럼에도 불구하고 이 한계상황을 간파할 경우(내재적 관계로 바뀜!)항상 순환논법을 피할 수 없다는 점을 밝혔다. 비유적으로 거울이 모든 것을 비출 수 있어도 자기 스스로를 비출 수 없다는 점과 같으며, 공리체계 내 표현의 증명여부를 그 체계내의 표현으로 판별하는 괴델의 거울 역시 스스로를 비출 수는 없다는 점을 밝혔다. 따라서 괴델문장이 산수문장에 속한다는 믿음은, 그 문장의 증명, 반증 여부도 아니고 또 그 문장의 사용에서 오는 것도 아니고, 플라톤적 수의 세계에 대한 그 어떤 직관에서 나오는 것도 아니다. 사실상 구문론적 측면을 제외하고는 그 어떤 것으로부터도 괴델문장이 산수문장이라는 근거는 없다. 그럼에도 불구하고 괴델문장을 산수문장으로 볼 경우(괴델의 정리의 증명과정이라는 마술을 통해!), 그것은 확보된 구성요소로부터 조합된 문장이 아니라 전체가 서로 분리불가능한 하나의 그림이라고 보아야한다. 이것은 비트겐슈타인이 공리를 그림이라고 본 것과 완전히 일치하는 맥락이다. 바론 그런 점에서 괴델문장은 새로운 공리로 도입된 것과 사실은 다름이 없다.

Effects of Extracts of Shanshuyu(Cornus officinalis sieb) on Removal of Lead in Rat (산수유 추출물의 납 제거 효과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of Korean 1% Shanshuyu extract in Pb administered rats. Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats weighed 100 l0g were used for this experiment and divided into following 4 groups; Con(control group), Shan(1% Shanshuyu extract), Pb(1,000ppm alone lead administered group), Pb-Shan(1,000ppm alone lead administered group with 1% Shanshuyu extract group). Food intake weight and FER(Food efficiency ratio) were remarkably decreased in lead added group. Tissue weight of liver, lung, stomach, heart, kidney and spleen of lead exposed rats were reduced by 1% Shanshuyu extract group. The lead content in the rats tissue of lead alone administered group was lower than in the rats tissue of lead administered group with 1% Shanshuyu extract group. AST(Asparatate transferase) and ALT(Alanine transferase) were increased in lead-administered group and lower in the 1% Shanshuyu extract group. These results suggested that 1% Shanshuyu extract may have some protective effects from of tissue demage induce with Lead.

The Growth Promoting Effect of Bifidobacterium bifidum by Combination of Natural Products Bearing Antioxidative Capacity (항산화 천연산물의 조합구성에 의한 Bifidobacterium bifidum의 성장 촉진 효과)

  • The growth of B. bifidum was promoted by natural products bearing antioxidative capacity and mixed combined two, three and four kinds of them. B. bifidum was expressed a good growth by Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner, Corni fructus, Beiamcanda chinensis, alone, and two mixed combinations were composed of Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner and Corni fructus, Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner and Beiamcanda chinensis, Nefumbo nuclfera gaertner and Theae folium, three mixed combinations were oraganized with Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner, Corni fructus and Theae folium, Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner, Corni fructus and Beiamcanda chinensis, Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner, Theae folium and Beiamcanda chinensis, and four mixed combinations were formed with Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner, Theae folium, Beiamcanda chinensis aud Corni fructus, Theae folium, Beiamcanda chinensis, Corni fructus and Glycyrrhizae radix, Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner, Corni fructus, Teae folium and Glycyrrhizae radix, and Nelumbo nuclfera gaertner, Corni fructus, Beiamcanda chinensis and Glycyrrhizae radix. These few mixed combinations promoted cell growth by 2.6 times than that of control, and its antioxidative capacity was also 5.6 times higher, and the ratio of elimination of hydroxyl radical was more than 80% in each dilution rate. As these combinations of natural products could activate some parts of body, they might be applied to pharmaceuitcal applications, functional foods, also expected to multifunctional fermentative beverages.

Discrimination model of cultivation area of Corni Fructus using a GC-MS-Based metabolomics approach (GC-MS 기반 대사체학 기법을 이용한 산수유의 산지판별모델)

  • It is believed that traditional Korean medicines can be managed more scientifically through the development of logical criteria to verify their region of cultivation, and that this could contribute to the advancement of the traditional herbal medicine industry. This study attempted to determine such criteria for Sansuyu. The volatile compounds were obtained from 20 samples of domestic Corni fructus (Sansuyu) and 45 samples of Chinese Sansuyu by steam distillation. The metabolites were identified in the NIST Mass Spectral Library via the obtained gas chromatography/mass spectrometer (GC/MS) data of 53 training samples. Data binning at 0.2 min intervals was performed to normalize the number of variables used in the statistical analysis. Multivariate statistical analyses, such as principle component analysis (PCA), partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were performed using the SIMCA-P software package. Significant variables with a variable importance in the projection (VIP) score higher than 1.0 were obtained from OPLS-DA, and variables that resulted in a p-value of less than 0.05 through one-way ANOVA were selected to verify the marker compounds. Finally, among the 11 variables extracted, 1-ethylbutyl-hydroperoxide (9.089 min), nonadecane (20.170 min), butylated hydroxytoluene (25.319 min), 5β,7βH,10α-eudesm-11-en-1α-ol (25.921 min), 7,9-bis(2-methyl-2-propanyl)-1-oxaspiro[4.5]deca-6,9-diene-2,8-dione (34.257 min), and 2-decyldodecyl-benzene (54.717 min) were selected as markers to indicate the origin of Sansuyu. The statistical model developed was suitable for the determination of the geographical origin of Sansuyu. The cultivation areas of four Korean and eight Chinese Sansuyu samples were predicted via the established OPLS-DA model, and it was confirmed that 11 of the 12 samples were accurately classified.

Quality Characteristics of Yogurt Added with Sansuyu(Corni Fructus) Extracts (산수유 추출물을 첨가한 요구르트의 품질 특성)

  • In this study, we investigated the quality characteristics of yogurt with different amounts(0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0%) of Sansuyu(Corni Fructus) extracts. The yogurt products were evaluated for sensory properties, acid production(pH, titratable acidity) and the number of viable cells during storage up to 21 days at $10^{\circ}C$. The products containing 0.5% and 1.0% Sansuyu extracts showed the highest scores for color, smell, softness, taste, and overall acceptability. For the intensity characteristic scores, color, smell and bitter taste increased as the proportion of Sansuyu extract increased. Softness was lowest, but it was highest in the 0.5% and 1.0% Sansuyu extracts. During storage, titratable acidity increased while pH gradually decreased. pH was lower in the sample with Sansuyu extract than that of the control, and the titratable acidity increased with increasing Sansuyu extract content on day 0. There was significant difference in viable cell counts among the samples. These results indicated that the yogurt added with 0.5~1.0% Sansuyu extract was acceptable.

Antioxidative Effects of Cornis fructus Extract on Chromium Trioxide Toxicity (Chromium Trioxide의 독성에 대한 산수유 추출물의 항산화 효과)

  • This study examined the antioxidative effects of Cornis fructus (CF) extract on cultured C6 glioma cells. For this purpose, cytotoxicity analysis of chromium trioxide ($CrO_3$) was performed and the protective effects of the CF extract on $CrO_3$-induced cytotoxicity was examined after the C6 glioma cells were cultured for 48 hours. The antioxidative effects, such as electron donating activity (EDA) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity were also analyzed. In this study, $CrO_3$ decreased the cell viability in a dose dependent manner. The $XTT_{50}$ value was determined to be $33{\mu}M$ after the cells were treated for 48 hours at a concentrations of $20{\sim}40{\mu}M$ $CrO_3$. The catalase (CAT) antioxidant increased significantly the cell viability that had been decreased by $CrO_3$-induced cytotoxicity. Regarding the protective effect of the CF extract, the cell viability of the CF extract was increased significantly compared to that of $CrO_3$ only. In addition, the CF extract showed antioxidative effects, such as EDA and an inhibitory effect on the LDH activity. These findings suggest that the cytotoxicity of $CrO_3$ is correlated with oxidative stress, and the CF extract effectively prevented $CrO_3$-induced cytotoxicity through the antioxidative effects. In conclusion, natural products, such as the CF extract may be a useful therapeutic agent for the prevention or treatment of toxicity induced by heavy metals via oxidative stress.
