For this study, first year middle school students in the first year of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCPYS 2018) were analyzed. As a result of the study, it was found that depression, aggression, social withdrawal as individual factors of adolescents, negative parenting attitude as parent factors, academic helplessness, negative friendships, smartphone dependence, persistence, etc. as school factors influence delinquent behavior of adolescents. In addition, it was found that smartphone dependence and persistence play a partial mediating role in the process of personal factors, parental factors, and school factors affecting adolescents' delinquency experiences. Based on these results, first, we need to break stereotypes about adolescents and understand the accurate understanding of adolescents' delinquent behaviors and what expectations they have. Second, practical education is required for parents and grandparents for consistent parenting attitudes and effective parenting. Third, a positive self-awareness and correct human relationship formation program should be operated in order to improve the friendship among adolescents. Finally, correct smartphone usage and counseling interventions and prevention programs to alleviate impulsivity are needed.

  • The present study compared the self report and parental report on the behavior problems of adolescents as a way to explore similarities and differences in the ways that adolescents and their parents conceptualize behavior problems of adolescents. Specifically, K-CBCL and YSR data from 3271 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 were subjected to factor analyses. Five factors;Depression/Anxiety/Withdrawal, Aggressiveness, Somatic Symptom, Disruptiveness, Attention Getting were obtained from the YSR data with the first factor, Depression/Anxiety/Withdrawal explaining 14.23% of the total variance. K-CBCL data yielded somewhat different factor structure with Aggression/Delinquency as the first factor explaining 14.08% of the total variance, followed by Somatic Symptoms, Social Withdrawal, Disruptiveness, and Depression/Anxiety. Total K-CBCL and YSR score showed a moderate correlation(r=.51), and correlation between pairs of comparable K-CBCL and YSR factor scores were also moderate. Regression analyses of the variables contributing to the total problem score of the K-CBCL and YSR suggested that social competence and academic achievement are two important sources of influence on the evaluation of behavior problems both in self-report and parental report. However, externalizing problems such as aggressiveness/delinquency appeared to be more salient for parents, while adolescents themselves appeared to be more concerned with internalizing problems such as depression/anxiety. Implications of these subtle differences for assessment of adolescent behavior problems were discussed.

  • This study identified which aspects of perceived social support influence children's internalizing problems. The participants were 91 children from divorced families and 87 children from non-divorced families. They completed a questionnaire assessing the level of perceived social support and their teacher rated their internalizing problems(withdrawal, depression/anxiety) on K-CBCL scale. Sixth graders from non-divorced families perceived evaluative support higher than sixth graders from divorced families. In withdrawal, third graders from divorced families were rated higher than preschooler and sixth graders by their teacher. In depression/anxiety, third graders from divorced families were rated higher than sixth graders by their teacher. Internalizing problems of children from divorced families were affected by their perceived emotional support. Namely, children from divorced families who perceived less emotional support experienced more withdrawal and depression/anxiety.

Also, total competence (p<0.05) in high school students appeared significantly lower as compare to those middle school students. Withdrawn (p<0.01) in high school students appeared significantly higher as compare to those middle school students. The though problems (p<0.001) and aggressive behavior (p<0.05) in middle school students appeared significantly higher as compare to those high school students. The distribution of clinical group was school 93.8%, total competence 32.6%, attention problems 8.8%, total behavior problems 8.6%, anxious/depressed 7.7%, aggressive behavior 6.4% et. al. The social (p<0.05), anxious/depressed (p<0.05), attention problems (p<0.01), internalizing problems (p<0.05) and externalizing problems (p<0.05) in girls of clinical group were more frequent significantly as compared to those the boys of clinical group. Also, the social (p<0.01) in middle school students of clinical group was more frequent significantly as compared to those the high school students of clinical group. Conclusions: This study result will be significant in that it can provide basic data for the school mental health services.

  • This study investigated the longitudinal transition of adolescents' psychological character profiles, which includes self-esteem, acculturative stress, depression, and social withdrawal, and the predictive effects of parental efficacy, families' support, and friends' support in multicultural families. The sample consisted of 1,188 adolescents in elementary school, who were re-examined in three years, when they were in middle school from the part of waves 2 and 6 of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study. A latent profile analysis identified three distinct profiles of psychological character among adolescents in elementary school and middle school: stable, social withdrawal, and unstable. As compared to elementary school, adolescents' psychological characteristics stayed stable and played critical roles on the latent classes. Parental efficacy, and supports from family and friends played critical roles on the latent classes. Specifically, as adolescents perceived full of supports from friends, they were more likely to make transitions to the stable group. Implications for intervention in multicultural families are discussed.

  • This study sought to identify developmental trajectories of bullying victimization from late elementary school through early high school, and to examine internalizing and externalizing problem outcomes associated with the trajectory group membership. Data from Seoul Panel Study of Children were collected annually over a 7-year period from 5th grade of elementary school through 2nd grade of high school (2005~2011). Latent class growth analysis yield three trajectory classes corresponding to stable low (81.2%), stable high (3.5%), and declining bullying victimization (15.6%). Findings from analysis of covariance indicated that students in both stable high and declining trajectory groups reported significantly higher means in internalizing behavior (withdrawal, depression/anxiety, and suicide ideation), compared to those in the stable low group. For externalizing behavior such as aggression and juvenile status offense, students in the stable high group showed higher means, compared to those in the stable low and declining trajectory groups. Developmental pattern of bullying victimization over multiple development stages and associated internalizing and externalizing outcomes are discussed as are the implications for the bullying prevention.

  • In this study, we try to find out and analyze the results of reduced self-esteem and loss using text mining. Physical health is important, of course, but these days, mental health is considered more important. In order for the mind to be healthy, it is important to have self-esteem and self-confidence first. Self-esteem decreases, and if lost, it directly leads to depression. If depression is severe, the worst will lead to self-harm and suicide. However, more and more people are committing suicide these days because both ordinary people and entertainers cannot overcome depression. For this reason, the seriousness of depression and loss of self-esteem are also considered important and become an issue. Therefore, we want to collect data for a certain period of time through Naver, Instagram, and Twitter searches and extract the words of the data to anticipate and analyze the cause of loss of self-esteem, how serious the recent depression is, and what the consequences of loss of self-esteem are.

  • This study examined how much Korean male middle school students used YouTube to determine if the social support from parents, teachers, and friends might moderate the relationships between YouTube overuse and internalizing and externalizing problems. Three hundred and twenty male middle school students completed questionnaires asking about their YouTube use, levels of YouTube addiction, internalizing and externalizing behaviors, and the degree of social support from parents, teachers, and friends. The results indicated that the YouTube addiction was positively related to the levels of internalizing and externalizing problems. Parental support moderated the relationships between YouTube addiction and internalizing problems. On the other hand, the moderating effects of teachers' or friends' supports were not significant. In contrast, teachers' support was the most crucial moderating factor regarding externalizing problems, while parental and friends' supports were only related to delinquency but not to aggression. These results suggest that the role of parental or teacher supports should be unique depending on the types of problem behaviors. Furthermore, the 'protective effects' of social support were not found in the highly addicted group, suggesting that the early prevention of YouTube overuse is a crucial intervention.
