  • Air pollution caused by particulate matters (PM) has become a global issue. PM is known to threaten human health by causing respiratory and cardiovascular disease. PM can be introduced to human gastrointestinal track through food intake, causing inflammation and changes in gut microbiota. Even at low PM concentrations, prolonged exposure to PM can cause significant accumulation of PM in food products. The adsorption of PM onto food surfaces is expected to be strongly influenced by the properties of food surfaces, but few studies have been reported. This paper examines several important food surface properties that may affect the interactions between PM and food surfaces, including surface wettability, surface charge, and surface microstructure. Understanding the adsorption of PM onto food surfaces can provide useful guidance for classifying PM-sensitive foods and controlling food chains, including cultivation, processing, preservation, and cooking, to ensure food safety against PM.

  • This study aimed to identify the change trajectories and clusters of Korean women's family values and depression levels, and the factors affecting depression, to use balanced panel data from the 1st to 7th rounds of the Korea Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families(KLSWF). The subjects of this study were 5,048 female panelists who participated in the KLSWF, and LSTM analysis was conducted using Python to divide the clusters of Korean women suffering from depression. In addition, descriptive statistical analysis, ANOVA, multinomial logistic regression analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. Results, It was confirmed that women's depression increased with age, and family values had a significant impact on depression. It was found that the more open the marriage values of women in the married group, the higher the level of depression. The family values trajectory and depression level of the analyzed subjects were not a single pattern, but included four clusters. To prevent depression among Korean women and provide more concrete interventions, a humanities and sociological system that can identify depression groups should be prepared.

  • This study aimed to identify the change in the public perception of "bats" after the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. Text mining and network analysis were conducted for blog posts, the largest social network in Korea. We collected 9,241 Naver blog posts from 2019 to 2020 just before the outbreak of COVID-19 in Korea. The data were analyzed with Python and NetMiner 4.3.2, and the public's perception of bats was examined through the relationship of keywords by period. Findings indicated that the frequency of bat keywords in 2020 increased more than 25 times compared to 2019, and the centrality value increased more than three times. The perception of bats changed before and after the outbreak of the pandemic. Prior to COVID-19, bats were highly recognized as a species of wildlife while in the first half of 2020, they were strongly considered as a threat to human society in relation to infectious diseases and health. In the second half of 2020, it was confirmed that the area of interest in bats expanded as the proportion of ecological and cultural types ofresearch increased. This study seeks to contribute to the expansion and direction of future research in bats by understanding the public's interest in the potential impact of the species as disease hosts post the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Recently, the public's interest in the air environment has increased, and public health is threatened by fine particulate matter. Furthermore, the government continues efforts to improve air quality by expanding the monitoring of air pollutants and reinforcing environmental standards. Since air quality differs depending on the region in the Korean Peninsula, it is currently necessary to identify the cause and search for influencing factors. In this study, the atmospheric environment and regional differences in cities located in the Chungnam Province were observed. As a research method, regression analysis was performed for weather conditions, such as temperature, wind speed, precipitation, and season and targeted at air pollutants, such as SO2, NO2, CO, O3, PM10, and PM2.5, as well as heavy metals contained in particulate matter, such as Pb, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, As, Mn, Fe, Al, Ca, and Mg. In the case of PM10, the concentrations of Mn(0.4884) in Cheonan, CO(0.3329) in Dangjin, and Mg(0.5691) in Seosan were highest. In the case of PM2.5, Cheonan NO2(0.4759), Dangjin CO(0.4128), and Seosan NO2(0.3715) were significantly affected. In summary, the influencing factors vary according to the region in Chungnam province in terms of air quality, and there is a difference in the degree of contribution. Therefore, it is considered that the Korean government's management of air quality is required for each region.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic, which began in December 2019 and continues to this day, has left the public needing information to help them cope with the pandemic. However, COVID-19-related fake news on social media seriously threatens the public's health. In particular, if fake news related to COVID-19 is massively spread with similar content, the time required for verification to determine whether it is genuine or fake will be prolonged, posing a severe threat to our society. In response, academics have been actively researching intelligent models that can quickly detect COVID-19-related fake news. Still, the data used in most of the existing studies are in English, and studies on Korean fake news detection are scarce. In this study, we collect data on COVID-19-related fake news written in Korean that is spread on social media and propose an intelligent fake news detection model using it. The proposed model utilizes the frequency information of parts of speech, one of the linguistic characteristics, to improve the prediction performance of the fake news detection model based on Doc2Vec, a document embedding technique mainly used in prior studies. The empirical analysis shows that the proposed model can more accurately identify Korean COVID-19-related fake news by increasing the recall and F1 score compared to the comparison model.

  • This study aimed to investigate factors influencing depressive symptoms among middle-aged women based on walking and nonwalking. The participants of the study were 56,007 women aged 40-64 years. A complex sample statistical analysis was conducted. Notably, 48.9% of middle-aged women were in the walking group and 51.1% were in the nonwalking. In the nonwalking group, relative to the walking group, more people had high school diploma as their highest level of education, and were 40-49 years old, unemployed, and public assistance recipients than in the walking group. In addition, in the nonwalking group, more people had sleeping durations of less than 7 hours, perceived stress, and depressive symptoms than in the walking group. Factors influencing depressive symptoms were identified as less than 7 hours of sleeping duration and high perceived stress in both the walking and nonwalking groups, and the degree of influence was higher in the walking group than in the non-walking group, suggesting than further studies are needed to identify the cause. The results confirmed that perceived stress and depressive symptoms in middle-aged women could be reduced by walking. Therefore, if middle-aged women continue to engage in walking practices appropriate for them, it will enhance their walking rate, reduce stress, and improve their depressive symptoms.
