Convergence Effects of Positive Psychological Capital and Social Support in Adolescents on Depression (청소년의 긍정심리자본과 사회적 지지가 우울에 미치는 융복합적 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine relationships among positive psychological capital and social support on depression and identify the factors that influence on depression in the adolescents. The data were collected from 140 adolescents in the two middle school located J city using self-reported questionnaires and May 9 2017 to May 19 2017. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, T-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS 20.0 program. Depression was found to be in a significant negative correlation with positive psychological capital and social support. The result of the stepwise multiple regression indicates the positive psychological capital, social support and economic status predict 22.4% (F=14.38, p<.001) of depression. Therefore, it is necessary to develop convergence positive psychological capital and social support strategy program for decrease and prevents depression in adolescents.

The Effects of Community Participation Factors and Social Capital on Empowerment of Single Mother (한부모 여성의 공동체 참여요인과 사회자본이 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand direct and indirect impact and the paths of community participation and social capital, which affect improvement of single mother's community participation factors, social capital, and empowerment. To accomplish this purpose structural relationships between single mother's community participation factors, social capital and empowerment have been analyzed. For the analysis 420 single mothers, who had participated various types of communities, were surveyed and structural equation modeling had been used and optical theory structure model(χ2=86.851, df=28, GFI=.958, CFI=.944), which explains the structural relationship among the factors, had been chosen. From the result, first, there was differences between empowerment and community participation levels, which is single mothers' community participation factors, of the impact on social capital and empowerment. Empowerment level of community, which was mediated by community participation level and social capital, affected empowerment, in the other hand, community participation level affected empowerment more directly than the impact of social capital. Second, single mothers' community participation factor affected more improvement of empowerment when it mediated by the accumulation of social capital. Third, single mothers' social capital directly affected the most improvement of empowerment. Based on the fact the implications of the study were presented.

The Effects of Health Promotion Initiatives with Community Participation and Parterships: The Case of Sabong-Myeon in Jinju City (지역사회참여와 파트너쉽에 기반을 둔 지역건강증진사업의 효과: 진주시 사봉면 사례)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to identify the effects of area-based health promotion initiatives with community participation and partnerships conducted in Sabong-Myeon, Jinju City for three years. Methods: We used data from the '2008 Sabong-Myeon Health Survey' and the '2011 Health Plus Happiness Plus Community Health Survey'. The study comprised 520 systematically sampled individuals, composed of 300 adults in 2008 and 200 adults in 2011. We compared some health behavior and mental health indicators as well as social capital levels between these two surveys. Results: The prevalences of smoking and walking exercise in 2011 were significantly higher than those in 2008. The prevalences of high risk alcohol consumption in men, stress perception, depressive symptoms experience, and suicide ideation were significantly lower than those in 2008. The proportion of people having a high level of social capital in 2011 was significantly higher than that in 2008, regardless of sex or marital status. However, the difference in the proportion was not statistically significant among people with a high educational background. Conclusions: This study suggested that the 3 years' implementation of area-based health promotion initiatives conducted in Sabong-Myeon might help to improve the mental health and social capital level of this community. The long-term health effects of area-based health promotion initiatives with community participation and partnerships need to be studied further, and lessons from these initiatives can be obtained by adapting proper evaluation methods.

Consumers' Value-in-Behavior and Practice of Pro-social Consumption: Focused on Moderating Effect of Social Capital (친사회적 소비에 대한 소비자의 행동적 가치인식과 실천행동: 사회적 자본의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • This study examined the effects of value-in-behavior toward pro-social consumption behavior on consumers' pro-social practices and the moderating effects of consumer's social capital based on trust and reciprocity that enhances collective actions to seek socially common values. The result showed that the value-in-behavior toward pro-social consumption was positive in general, and altruistic value was the highest, followed by emotional value, social value, and functional value. The pro-social behaviors of age groups were significantly different. In all pro-social behaviors, the older group was more active, except for the rejection of the unfair business. The result also showed that the functional value and emotional value have significant effects on consumer's pro-social practices. The interaction effects between trust and emotional value and between reciprocity and functional value were significant. Based on these results, the theoretical and practical implications for facilitating the transition to the direction of consumer's role in making positive social impacts.

The Influence of Individual-Level Social Capital on Depression (개인수준의 사회적 자본이 우울증에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the relationship between individual-level social capital and depression. Methods: Data from the 2009 Community Health Survey were analyzed for this study. We used chi-square tests and hierarchical logistic regression analyses to determine the relationship between individual-level social capital and depression. The Korean version of the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale was used to measure depression. Results: After controlling for socio-demographic factors such as, health behavior and chronic illness morbidity, that are associated with individual-level social capital, trust and informal participation significantly affected depression. Respondents with "be trust"(0.536, 95% CI 0.419-0.685) and who participate in "informal groups"(0.657, 95% CI 0.516-0.836) had significantly lower odds ratios of depression. Conclusions: Considering and introducing measures to increase the social capital of residents, need reduce depression. It is especially necessary to enhance resident empowerment.

Effects of the Social Capital of individual Civil Servants on the Efficiency of Public Service - Focus of civil servants in Jeju province (공무원 개인의 사회적자본이 공직업무효율성에 미치는 영향 - 제주특별자치도 공무원을 대상으로)

  • This survey research was performed to determine the social capital that public officials generate within the relationship of the community at the individual level by performing their public office work as an administrative duty. To this end, a survey was conducted on 500 civil servants in Jeju province. The survey period was May 19-23, 2014. 476 subjects were analyzed using a T-test, One way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis to on SPSS 19.0Win software. As a result of the analysis, 1. The norms of the community cultural, male staff participation and cooperation, and social capital level of civil servants, showed a significantly higher association than female civil servants. There was a difference between the populations of registration to an association to the work location type. In addition, the social capital increases generally as the level of the officers increases. 2. The sub-category in the social capital of a personal level on civil servants family & associates trust, participation & cooperation and neighbor trust had a positive impact on the efficiency of public services. On the other hand, community cultural associations (network) did not have an influence on efficiency.

  • The Effects of Social Capital on Occupational Aspiration in University Students This study aims to understand the impact of social capital (parent-child relationship, human network, and SNS use) on the occupational aspiration level in university students based on Coleman's Social Capital Concept. To achieve this, statistical significance test was conducted through correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The major study findings are as follows. As a result of correlation analysis, it was found that Other variables, except for parent's occupational of social capital had a positive effect on vocational aspiration. Also. as a result of hierarchical multiple regression analysis, it was found that parent-child relationship, human network obtained from social activities, Social Networking Service use and usefulness of information - social capital factors - had a statistically significant impact on occupational aspiration. Such findings suggest that the process of possessing and acquiring social capital among university students served as an important achievement-oriented value in terms of social mobility.

The Relationships Among Job Burnout, Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Work Engagement, and Social Capital via Smartphone use in The Navy Soldiers on Duty: A Moderated Mediation Model (해군 병사들의 직무소진과 조직시민행동의 관계: 직무열의와 스마트폰을 통한 사회적 자본의 조절된 매개효과)

  • This study attempted to verify the relationship between job burnout and organizational citizenship behavior among South Korean soldiers in the Navy force by applying the Job Demands-Resource Model and Conservation of Resource Theory, and the moderated mediating effect of social capital through the work engagement and smartphone use. The mediating effect of work engagement and the moderating effect of social capital via smartphone use were examined in the relation between job burnout and organizational citizenship behavior. We combine the mediation effect model and the moderation effect model and tested the moderated mediation effect. To perform this study, the survey was conducted on the navy soldier on duty, and total of 324 data were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows: the complete mediation effect of work engagement in the relation of job burnout and organizational citizenship behavior was verified, social capital via smartphone use moderated the relation between job burnout and work engagement, and the moderated mediation effect of social capital via smartphone use in the relation between job burnout and organizational citizenship behavior through work engagement was identified. Based on the results, implications, limitations, and future research directions of the current study were discussed.

The Study on the Explanatory Factors of the Disabled Women's Safety in the Convergence Society (융복합 사회에서 장애여성 안전의 설명요인에 대한 연구)

  • This study aimed to explore the factors explaining the safety of disabled women in the convergence society and was surveyed 374 disabled women nationwide. This study examined the factors that explain the safety of disabled women from the accidents and crimes in terms of individual, familial, and community characteristics. Main findings are as follows: 1) the safety from accident was largely explained by the community type and social capital condition in characteristics of community domain. The material hardship in characteristics of familial domain and disability level in characteristics of individual domain explained the safety from accident also. 2) the safety from crime was largely explained by the material hardship in characteristics of familial domain. And the community type and social support condition in characteristics of community domain and the educational level in characteristics of individual domain explained the safety from crime. Based on the findings, we suggested practical and institutional implications to ensure the disabled women's safety.

Social Capital and Health in South Korea: Considering Socio-economic Factors and Health-related Lifestyles (한국인의 사회자본과 건강: 사회경제적 요인 및 건강 관련 생활습관을 중심으로 한 분석)

  • Objectives: This research intended to examine the relationships among social capital, socioeconomic factors, and health-related lifestyles and the effect of these factors on self-rated health in the Republic of Korea. Methods: The data of the social statistics survey that the Korea National Statistical Office conducted in 2006 were chosen and 37,928 people from them, who were 25~59 years old were sampled. This paper made path analysis to examine the relationships among social capital, socioeconomic factors, and health-related lifestyle and the influence of these factors on self-rated health. Results: In relation to the overall influences of socioeconomic factors, social capital, and health-related lifestyle on self-rated health, the following factors had a significant positive direct effect: education(0.069), subjective class(0.108), marriage(0.054), satisfaction with family relationships(0.087), reliability of institutions(0.020), citizens' participation(0.021), exercise(0.037), and refrain from smoking(0.011). However, abstinence from alcohol(-0.067) had a negative direct effect on self-rated health Conclusion: Based on the results, this paper can suggest that the plan of keeping and building up social capital should be considered in the whole aspects of the society and the project promoting drinking moderation is required to consider social culture than individuals.
