Perception Related to Recycling Clothing and Analysis of the Actual Conditions for the Unused Clothing (의복 재활용에 대한 인식 및 사장의복 실태 분석)

  • This study analyzed the perceptions related to recycling clothing and the actual conditions of unused clothing based on demographic characteristics to help reduce environmental pollution. A total of 833 questionnaires were used in data analysis for this survey study. The subjects consisted of men and women in their 20s to 50s who resided in Gyeongnam and Ulsan, Korea. The data were analyzed by χ2-test using SPSS. The results obtained were as follows. The intention to recycle others' clothing was significantly different for all the demographic characteristics. Overall, the response "I have an intention to recycle others' clothing" was reported by a relatively high proportion of the respondents. The analysis of the motivation to others' clothing showed a significant difference in all demographic characteristics except gender. The main motivation for recycling clothing was because "I wanted to recycle the clothing". The factors hindering recycling others' clothing showed significant differences according to gender, marital status, and occupation. The main hindrance factor was reported as "feeling uncomfortable". The causes of occurrence of unused T-shirts significantly different for all demographic characteristics. The causes of occurrence of unused trousers and skirts was significantly different for all demographic characteristics except monthly income. The cause of undisposed, unused clothing was related to all demographic characteristics Overall, the response "reluctant to dispose of" was reported by a relatively high proportion of the respondents.

  • This study, focused on reuse of the concepts of unused clothing recycling, was intended to provide basic materials and suggestions for establishing the drastic measures necessary for consumer education related to recycling by investigating how experiences in the recycling of unused clothes would show up according to environmental consciousness and recycling consciousness and then probing the scheme for the recycling of clothes. Since it was found that recycling consciousness was the variable that exerted a great effect on experiences in recycling unused clothes, consumer education about recycling will have to be revitalized. And detailed and specialized education on environmental consciousness is more important than emphasis on the importance of environmental consciousness.

A Study on Clothing Recycling Disposition Behavior -Focusing on the Unmarried Women Workers- (의복재활용처분행동에 관한 연구 -미온 취업여성의 사장의복을 중심으로-)

  • This study puts an emphasis on the importance clothing and its reuse, dealing with the unmarried women workers who will be main domestic consumers. Questionnaire survey method was used in this research. The sample was taken from 546 unmarried women workers. The major findings are summarized as follows, it was found that Factor I was the cause of unplanned clothing management, Factor II was the cause of clothing modification and body type changes and Factors III was the cause of fashionmongering. Second, it was shown that as for experiences in hoarded clothing recycling disposition behavior subjective social strate had the high level, the group of sale and technical jobs / self-employed jobs had the higher level than the group of specialized skil / management jobs, the group in office-going and leaving clothing had the higher level than the group of people in separate uniform as working dress and the group of those experienced in environmental education had the high level.
