A Case Study on Reinforcement of Slope in PAP Retaining Wall using Back Analysis (PAP옹벽에서 역해석을 이용한 사면보강 사례 연구)

  • The endpoint of the Yangbuk tunnel constructed at the national road between Gyeongju and Gampo is composed of massive cutting because the road is driven through the sides of mountain. PAP(Prestressed Anchor and PC Pannel) retaining wall as a slope stability method was established over this section. Part of the anchor in PAP wall became broken after six months. We performed inverse analysis through its measurements obtained until that time. An geological investigation to confirm the condition of ground layering and the attraction force test to find as to whether some errors might be present in the anchor were made. According to the back analysis, it was turned out that the value with soil parameter 90% that was applied to the original design was pertinent. In the redesign, the permissible stress in the anchor body was changed from 306 kN to 591 kN and 784 kN and the fixation position was increased from 11.0 m to 23.0 m. Nevertheless, five months have passed since the exchange of the anchor, the measurement results validate that stable state has been maintained. This research is considered a case that the immediate maintenance helps prevent the slope accidents.

  • Most conventional systems of fire fighting control in a ship have been based on rule-based system in which expert knowledges are expressed with production rules. Renewing and adding of rules is needed continuously for the improvement of the system capability in an already build-up system and such adding and renewing procedures could hinder users from fluent utilization of a system. The author proposes an advanced fire fighting control intelligent system (A-FFIS) using rule-based and carte-based reasoning by clustering to implement conventional hybrid system (H-FFIS). Compared with H-FFIS, new approach with A-FFIS shows that the system proposed here improves fire detection rate and reduces fire detection time.

  • This study aims to present cases of rock slope failures caused by geological structures. Status of slope failures, results of cause analysis and stabilizing methods are introduced, focusing primarily on rock slope failures caused by specific geologic structures, such as intersection of faults infilled with clay, foliation and fault shear zone by dike intrusion and deep-seated clayey layer along lithologic boundary. Detailed geological survey, geophysical exploration and boring survey were conducted for cause analysis. Stabilizing method to prevent further slope failures and to ensure long-term stability of slopes were established, considering characteristics of geological structures, types of failure and geological conditions.

  • Last Planner System (LPS) developed by Lean Construction Institute consists of four steps: Master Schedule, Phase Schedule, Lookahead Planning and Weekly Work Plan. This paper focuses on the process of measuring Percent of Plan Completed (PPC) at the weekly Work Plan stage. PPC means the percentage of weekly assignments completed. According to the results of the researches that deal with PPC from many other countries, we can assure the benefits or using PPC. However the concept of PPC is unfamiliar in Korea construction industry. This paper analyzes the cases in which PPC is applied in other countries and compares them with the production control system in Korean construction industry. The results of this research will provide the time management system for using PPC in Korea.

  • This paper proposes a modified way to delimit the boundary of Busan metropolitan area and compares the empirical analysis with the existing metropolitan area boundary. More specifically, the present state of the metropolitan transportation network is reflected by service area analysis in our study area. The analysis of the linkage between the central city and its fringes considers various travel behaviors as well as commuting to work and school, based on origin-destination trip information. In addition, more diverse indices are applied to the analysis of urban characteristics, and the land cover map is used as well. Compared with the current Busan metropolitan area boundary, our empirical analysis captures the status quo of the undergoing spatial dynamics such as the newly form ed homogeneous sphere of living in our study area.

  • The PPPs(public private partnerships) which was introduced in the later part of the 1990s has grown since 2005, with the beginning of BTL(Build Transfer Lease) type which retrieves the investment by receiving the lease payment from the government. As application areas and scale of the PPPs have been further expanded, it is expected the demand on special purpose facilities will be increased. We do know only successful foreign practices of the PPPs but have rarely consider the failure cases. Therefore, this paper derives implications by analyzing the case of National physical laboratory project which is known as a typical failure case of UK's PFI. We find that from the perspective of governance, the reasons leading to the failure of business are an insufficient of technical rationality, unsettled social relationships and inefficient risk management. Based on the case study, this study shows how to improve management system for special purpose PPPs business in Korea.

Case Study of Supportive Music Imagery for Enhancing Self-Worth (지지적 음악심상(SMI)기법을 통한 내담자의 자기가치감 증진에 대한 사례연구)

  • As a case study of the application of supportive music and imagery (SMI), this study examined the impact of SMI in helping clients establish greater self-worth. Sense of self-worth was defined as trust and respect for the self as evidenced by understanding of one's individuality and uniqueness. Participants in the study were two adults in need of help with psychological challenges arising from low self-worth. Each of them participated in SMI sessions once a week, for a total of 6 weeks. Participants' statements on the imagery drawn by them during SMI sessions were analyzed in relation to components of the sense of self-worth. The results of this study showed that SMI sessions helped both clients recognize their internal resources and gaining insight into the value of their internal resources increased their evaluation of their own self-worth. Specific factors of SMI sessions that impacted the clients' self-worth and suggestions for future studies are also discussed.

Analysis of Overseas Cases and Field Requirements for SW Education Classrooms (SW교육 교실 구축을 위한 해외 사례 및 현장 요구조사 분석)

  • In this paper, in order to prepare a classroom model that can effectively operate SW education, this study explored cases of creative educational space construction overseas and conducted a demand survey on elementary and middle school teachers. As a result, in overseas cases, classrooms were constructed in various forms, and furniture in the classrooms were produced in various shapes and sizes, and the cases using advanced equipment were explored. As a result of the survey on the education site, it was found that the most desired installation is a fluid type that can restructure the space by freely moving the facilities according to the teaching method. The results of the analysis are expected to be of great help in rebuilding computer labs or building infrastructure for future SW training.

Experimental Study on Random Walk Music Recommendation Considering Users' Listening Preference Behaviors (청취 순서 성향을 고려한 랜덤워크 음악 추천 기법과 실험 사례)

  • Personalization recommendations have already proven in many areas of the e-commerce industry. For personalization recommendations, additional work such as reclassifying items is generally necessary, which requires personal information. In this study, we propose a recommendation technique that neither exploit personal information nor reclassify items. We focus on music recommendation and performed experiments with actual music listening data. Experimental analysis shows that the proposed method may result in meaningful recommendations albeit it exploits less amount of data. We analyze the appropriate number of items and present future considerations for contextual recommendation.

  • The use of text data in big data analytics has been increased. So, much research on methods for text data analysis has been performed. In this paper, we study Bayesian learning based on conjugate prior for analyzing keyword data extracted from text big data. Bayesian statistics provides learning process for updating parameters when new data is added to existing data. This is an efficient process in big data environment, because a large amount of data is created and added over time in big data platform. In order to show the performance and applicability of proposed method, we carry out a case study by analyzing the keyword data from real patent document data.
