  • 본 논문은 WCDMA 시스템의 역방향 링크에서의 빔포밍 적용에 관하여 기술하였다. 제안된 빔포밍 구조는 제어채널의 파일럿 심볼을 이용한 빔포밍 계수계산과 데이터 채널에 적용하는 분리구조를 가지고 있다. 적응 빔포밍의 대표적 방식인 LMS 알고리즘과steering 알고리즘을 적용하여 성능 분석과 시뮬레이션을 수행하였으며, 다양한 환경 변수에 따른 시뮬레이션 결과는 빔포밍 알고리즘의 구현과 설계에 있어 중요한 지침을 주리라 기대된다.

  • 본 논문은 WCDMA 시스템의 역방향 링크에서의 빔포밍 적용에 관하여 기술하였다. 제안된 빔포밍 구조는 제어채널의 파일럿 심볼을 이용한 빔포밍 계수 계산과 데이터 채널에 적용하는 분리구조를 가지고 있다. 적응 빔포밍의 대표적 방식인 LMS 알고리즘과 steering 알고리즘을 적용하여 성능 분석과 시뮬레이션을 수행하였으며, 다양한 환경 변수에 따른 시뮬레이션 결과는 빔포밍 알고리즘의 구현과 설계에 있어 중요한 지침을 주리라 기대된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 IMT-2000 WCDMA 시스템의 기지국의 수신신호에 대한 WCDMA 역방향링크 디지털 빔포밍 적용구조를 제시하고, 이의 성능을 측정하기 위한 빔포밍 시뮬레이터를 구현하였다. 실제 WCDMA 시스템에 근거해 수신 신호를 모델링하고, 기본 신호 모델을 대상으로 빔포밍과 전력제어등의 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 또한 셀네의 각 사용자들의 이동을 정의한 사용자 이동 프로파일을 구성하여 적용함으로써 실제 이동통신이 이루어지는 환경과 유사한 시뮬레이션 환경을 설정하게 되었고, 이를 통하여 빔포밍을 적용한 시스템에 대한 성능 분석의 신뢰도를 향상시켰다

  • This paper considers hybrid beamforming for millimeter wave system in uplink transmission where multiple users send their data streams simultaneously. Hybrid beamforming has low-cost and low power consumption features compared to conventional digital beamforming schemes. We assume that each user uses one transmit antenna and sends one data stream, while the base station has multiple receive antennas and multiple radio frequency chains. Therefore, hybrid beamforming is performed only at the base station. We also assume that each user does not know instantaneous channel side information (CSI), while the base station is able to estimate the CSI from all users accurately. Under this channel assumption, the outage probability is not zero. We evaluate the outage probability of the considered hybrid beamforming as a performance metric through computer simulations. We show that the outage probability of hybrid beamforming approaches that of digital beamforming in some cases.

Beamforming Technology in Medical Ultrasound System (초음파진단기의 빔포밍 기술)

  • Medical ultrasound systems have been used since 1950s, and are now widely used in most hospitals as indispensable diagnostic imaging systems. Since array probe was introduced in 1970s, beamforming technology using electronic signal processing has been adopted to the medical ultrasound system, and has been improved. Beamforming is a important technology which defines the resolution of the ultrasound system. In this paper, the technologies are introduced from basic beamforming principles to current trend. They include principles of beamforming using array probe, basic theory, and practical implementation, and recent topics of synthetic aperture imaging, adaptive beamforming, 2-dimensional beamforming using 2-dimensional array are also introduced. These various technologies will improve system performances continuously by merging innovatively with various technologies in other fields.

Combining deep learning-based online beamforming with spectral subtraction for speech recognition in noisy environments (잡음 환경에서의 음성인식을 위한 온라인 빔포밍과 스펙트럼 감산의 결합)

  • We propose a deep learning-based beamformer combined with spectral subtraction for continuous speech recognition operating in noisy environments. Conventional beamforming systems were mostly evaluated by using pre-segmented audio signals which were typically generated by mixing speech and noise continuously on a computer. However, since speech utterances are sparsely uttered along the time axis in real environments, conventional beamforming systems degrade in case when noise-only signals without speech are input. To alleviate this drawback, we combine online beamforming algorithm and spectral subtraction. We construct a Continuous Speech Enhancement (CSE) evaluation set to evaluate the online beamforming algorithm in noisy environments. The evaluation set is built by mixing sparsely-occurring speech utterances of the CHiME3 evaluation set and continuously-played CHiME3 background noise and background music of MUSDB. Using a Kaldi-based toolkit and Google web speech recognizer as a speech recognition back-end, we confirm that the proposed online beamforming algorithm with spectral subtraction shows better performance than the baseline online algorithm.

Design and Implementation of 2.4 GHz Beamforming antenna using 4×4 Butler Matrix (4×4 버틀러 매트릭스를 이용한 2.4 GHz 빔포밍 안테나 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, it is designed and analyzed the beamforming antenna using the butler matrix. The operating frequency of the proposed beamforing antenna is ISM band of 2.4 GHz band and the component of the beamforing antenna consisted of a 1×4 array antenna and a 4×4 butler matrix. Each output port of 4×4 butler matrix outputs the signal having a different phase, it is provided to each input port of 1×4 array antenna. The beamforming antenna with four output ports forms a total of four beams. In order to analyze the radiation pattern of the beamforming antenna, it was provided by switching the signal to the input port and proceeded the Individual analysis for the input port 1 to 4. The main beams of the proposed beamforming antenna were formed in the -12°, 40°, -40° and 12° directions according to each input port, respectively.

  • 본 논문에서는, 다중송수신안테나 직교주파수분할다중화 (MIMO-OFDM) 시스템에서 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 위한 제한 피드백 기법을 고려하였다. 공간적 상관도가 존재하는 다중전달경로 채널에서, 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 위한 제한 피드백 기법과 코드북을 제안하였다. 모의실험 결과를 통해 제안한 기법이 낮은 복잡도를 가짐에도 불구하고 기존의 iterative 알고리즘을 기반으로 하는 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 이용한 제한 피드백 기법보다 우수한 성능을 보임을 확인하였다. 또한, 제안한 코드북이 랜덤 벡터 양자화 코드북보다 우수한 성능을 보임을 확인하였다.

  • We consider a limited feedback based hybrid beamforming which reduces the energy of feedback information. In the millimeter wave channel, some rays with large ray gain dominate energy of the channel. Using this point, we propose a channel feedback scheme that employs limited number of channel rays. Also, we provide a hybrid beamforming scheme for the limited feedback system. Based on the simulation results, the proposed scheme shows a comparable data rate performance with conventional schemes, while it remarkably reduces energy of channel feedback.

  • To improve the performance of mobile communication systems, beamforming technology is being considered. However, the number of antenna should be more than four to implement beamforming technology. Therefore, the existing 2-Tx RU (radio unit) for $2{\times}2$ MIMO (multiple input multiple output) should be replaced by 4-Tx RU for beamforming function. In this paper, we propose a new method to implement 4-Tx beamforming RU reusing the existing 2-Tx RU. We think that our method is very useful from the viewpoint of cost and environment because the existing 2-Tx RUs can be reused.
