  • Inlet hammershock is the critical loads condition for designing the inlet duct structure of a fighter. The sudden flow reduction in engine compressor causes inlet hammershock with high pressure. The traditional method was used to combine extreme conditions (maximum speed, sea level altitude, and cold day) to analyze this compression wave inlet hammershock pressure. However, after the 90s there have been papers that presented the probabilistic approach for the inlet hammershock to achieve the appropriate design pressure. This study shows how to analyze the inlet hammershock pressure by making practical use of the Republic of Korea Air Force real flight usage data under probabilistic approach and then analyze approximately 30% decreased inlet hammershock pressure compared with the traditional valve.

  • In this work, infrared targets for a developed hardware-in-the-loop simulation(HILS) system are proposed for a performance test of a dual-sensor imaging seeker equipped with an infrared and a visible sensor that can lock and track for ground and air targets. This integrated system is composed of 100 modules of heat and light sources to simulate various kinds of target and the trajectory of moving targets based on scenarios. It is possible to simulate not only the position, velocity, and direction for these targets but also background clutter and jamming environments. The design and measurement results of an infrared target, such as the HILS system configuration, developed for testing and evaluation of a dual-sensor imaging seeker are described. In the future, it is planned to test the lock-on and tracking performance of an imaging seeker equipped with single or dual sensors dynamically in real time based on a simulation flight scenario in the developed HILS system.

  • This study quantitatively analyzed the human casualties that can occur when a multicopter-type Urban Air Mobility (UAM) with a weight of about 1 ton and a speed of about 100 km/h falls in an urban area. Based on the population density and building database in Seoul, the population exposed to collisions in the event of a UAM crash was derived. Through the ballistic descent model, the accident impact radius of the UAM fall was calculated. In addition, the change in human casualties on the ground was analyzed when the accident impact radius increased. Finally, the ground risk map was created for Seoul, and it was confirmed that about 1 to 10 people could be injured when a UAM crash.

  • In this paper the Gamma guidance law, which was used for IUS (Inertial Upper Stage), is applied for solid-motor guidance of a upper stage of a satellite launch vehicle. The RCS (Reaction Control System), which activates after burnout of the upper stage, is employed for the convergence of the guidance algorithm and compensation of velocity errors induced by the solid motor. The algorithm is also simplified by replacing the time-consuming numerical integration process to predict final vehicle states with Keplerian trajectories. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated by conducting 3-DOF computer simulations for off-nominal flight conditions. The numerical results show that Gamma guidance can reduce the orbit injection accuracy in comparison with that obtained by applying open-loop commands.

  • The number and locations of force generators and their force directions of Active Vibration Control System(AVCS) are important to maximize the airframe vibration reduction performance of helicopters. The present AVCS simulation using an exhaustive test method attempts to determine the best number and locations of force generators and their force directions for maximization of the airframe vibration reduction performance of UH-60A helicopter at 158 knots. The 4P hub vibratory loads of the UH-60A helicopter are calculated using DYMORE II, a nonlinear multibody dynamics analysis code, and MSC.NASTRAN is used to predict the vibration responses of the UH-60A airframe. The AVCS framework with an exhaustive test method is constructed using MATLAB Simulink. As a result, when applying AVCS with the optimal combination of the force generators, the 4P airframe vibration responses of UH-60A helicopter are reduced by from 19.35% to 98.07% compared to the baseline results without AVCS.

  • It is essential to coincide with moving target planet at future arrival changing point during space flight time in an interplanetary orbit design. Transition orbit elements can be obtained from traditional Lambert solutions by adjusting initial and final positions include flight time. Two-point boundary values of orbits can be selected in the design process. From this point of view, interplanetary orbits are infinite if they can be acquired from departure velocity without limit. However, appropriate and optimized procedures are needed to obtain an optimum interplanetary orbit to meet given conditions. The departure velocity is highly dependent on space launch vehicle's ability up to now. In this paper, algorithms of professor Howard Curtis at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University were applied to obtain Lambert solution and orbit elements.

  • The Lunar orbiter is expected to be inserted into a ~300km low Earth orbit using Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II(KSLV-II). After the states are successfully determined with obtained tracking data, the Trans Lunar Injection(TLI) burn has to be done at appropriate epoch to send the lunar orbiter to the Moon. In this study, we describe in detail the mission scenario of the Korean lunar orbiter from the launch at NARO Space Center to lunar orbit insertion(LOI) stage following direct transfer trajectory. We investigate the launch window including launch azimuth, delta-V profile according to TLI and LOI burn positions. We also depict the visibility conditions of ground stations and solar eclipse duration to understand the characteristics of the direct transfer trajectory. This paper can be also helpful not only for overall understanding of ${\Delta}V$ trend by changing TOF and coasting time but for selecting launch epoch and control parameters to decrease fuel consumption.

  • A test was performed to collect the data to validate an analytic method for vent hole sizing on the nose fairing of a launch vehicle. The bake-out chamber at KARI was used to simulate the ambient pressure drop, and pressure difference data were collected for a model with various kinds of vent holes which was installed in the chamber. The characteristics of the test facility and measurement equipments were evaluated for the measurement of the transient behaviors. The measured data were processed in consideration of the characteristics of the facility and equipments, and the effects of vent hole size and configuration on the pressure variation in the model were analyzed based on the data.

  • Ablation phenomena is very complicated because it includes momentum, energy and mass transfer, chemical reactions as well as phase change. In this paper, ablation at the rocket nozzle throat is modeled as unsteady one dimensional axi-symmetric with proper boundary conditions and field equation is solved numerically. Analytical results are compared with measured ablation data from firing experimental liquid rocket engine. Test variables are combustion pressure and mixture ratio. for low combustion pressure and low mixture ratio, the discrepancy between analysis and experiments are large but for the normal rocket operation range, two results show a simliar trend with maximum discrepancy of $100\%$.

  • The electron energy distributions function were analysed in sulIitur hexaflowide at E/N : 500~800(Td) for a case of non-equilibrium region in the nran electron energy. This papa- describes the electron transport characteristics in $ SF_6$ gas calculated for range of E/N values from 150~800(Td) by the Monte Carlo simulation and Boltzmann equation Irethod using a set of electron collision cross sectioos determined by the authors and the values of electron swarm parameters. The results gained that the value of an electron swarm parameter such as the electron drift velocity, the electron ionization or attachment coefficients, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients agree with the experimental and theoretical for a range of E/N.
