With the relaxation of regulations on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the USA, the development of related industries is expected. Hence, it is anticipated that the number the UAVs will reach approximately 600,000 in the USA in 2017. However, automated flights of commercial UAVs are restricted owing to concerns about accidents. To deal with the possibility of collisions, several studies on collision prevention and the routing of UAVs have been conducted. However, these studies do not deal with various situations dynamically or provide efficient solutions. Therefore, we propose a centralized routing method for the UAV that uses vehicular networks. In the proposed scheme, vehicular networks regard UAVs as data packets to be routed. Accordingly, the proposed method reduces UAV processing power required for route searches. In addition, the routing efficiency for UAV flight paths can be improved since congestion can be minimized by using a vehicular network.

Airworthiness certification is critical, in ensuring the flight safety of military aircraft for development tests and production operations. The MIL-HDBK-516C, latest airworthiness certification document, handles the field of flying qualities in Chapter 6 (flight technology), and refers to specific chapters of MIL-STD-1797B, which is the specification document for developing military aircraft. Since the MIL-STD-1797B released in 2006 by the U.S. Department of Defense is not disclosed to other countries, the Chapter 6 (flight technology) of MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded, the former certification standards pursuant to flying qualities, has to be applied to military aircraft being developed in the Republic of Korea. However the requirements of Chapter 6 of MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded comprise unclear sentences, because of contents from various development specifications. Also, clarification is needed in that the same requirements have to be verified in different criteria. In this paper, the results of this study present an effective verification method, for acquiring the airworthiness certification in field of flying qualities based on MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded.

In KSLV-I launch mission, real-time data from the tracking stations are acquired, processed and distributed by the Mission Control System to the user group who needed to monitor processed data for safety and flight monitoring purposes. The processed trajectory data by the mission control system is sent to each tracking system for target designation in case of tracking failure. Also, the processed data are used for decision making for flight termination when anomalies occur during flight of the launch vehicle. In this paper, we propose the processing mechanism of slaving data which plays a key role of launch vehicle tracking mission. The best position data is selected by predefined logic and current status after every available position data are acquired and pre-processed. And, the slaving data is distributed to each tracking stations through time delay is compensated by extrapolation. For the accurate processing, operation timing of every procesing modules are triggered by time-tick signal(25ms period) which is driven from UTC(Universial Time Coordinates) time. To evaluate the proposed method, we compared slaving data to the position data which received by tracking radar. The experiments show the average difference value is below 0.01 degree.

Along with global interest, drones are expanding the base of utilization such as transportation of goods, forest protection, and safety management, and cluster flights are being applied in various fields such as military operations and environmental monitoring. Currently, specialized networks such as e-UM 5G for services in specific industries are being established in Korea. In this regard, drone systems are also moving to establish specialized networks to provide services that are fused with AI and autonomous flight. As drones converge with various services, various security threats in various environments are also subordinated, and in response, requirements and guidelines for drone security are being prepared in Korea. In this paper, we propose a technology method for peer identification and safe information provision between cluster flight drones by utilizing a cryptographic module equipped with wireless LAN and quantum entropy-based random number generator in a cluster flight system and a mobile communication network such as e-UM 5G.
The aviation has improved safety through technological innovation and strengthened flight safety through safety regulations and supervision by aviation authorities. As the industry's safety approach has evolved into a systematic approach to the aircraft system, airlines have established a safety management system. Technical defects or abnormal data in an aircraft can be warning signs that could lead to an accident, and the risk of an accident can be reduced by identifying and responding to these signs early. Therefore, management of abnormal warning signs is an essential element in promoting data-based decision-making and enhancing the operational efficiency and safety level of airlines. In this study, we present a model to statistically analyze quick access recorder (QAR) flight data in the preliminary analysis stage to analyze the patterns and causes of crab landing events that can lead to runway departures when landing an aircraft, and provide a precursor to a landing event. We aim to identify signs and causes and contribute to increasing the efficiency of safety management.
This study presents the numerical investigation of the trajectory of rocket launched from a helicopter. The nonlinear mathematical model of armed configuration of UH-60 helicopter was developed while Hydra 70 unguided rocket was modeled to simulate the rocket behavior. The effects of various inflow models on the launched rocket trajectory are obtained. Similarly, rocket launch simulation was performed to determine the unsafe flight maneuver condition where the rocket trajectory is critically close to the helicopter main rotor tip path plane.

Flight tests for aircraft development and certification have higher air accidents risk than other aerospace industries. Accordingly risk identification necessary for risk management in the safety management system is a very important factor in preventing similar air accidents during flight tests. But internationally issued accident statistics are usually confined to commercial transport aircraft and they do not reflect characteristics of flight tests, also databases to hazards identification during flight tests are not established or available in Republic of Korea. Therefore, we identified flight test procedures and traced the major causes of aviation accidents based on the statistics and preventive materials for risk management which were issued by international organizations and advanced countries of aviation. A total of 312 final reports classified as flight test among air accident/incident database held by U.S. NTSB were researched and about 200 flight test hazard were identified. The results of this study will be used as basic data for establishing the safety management system of the national comprehensive flight performance test site.

The purpose of this study is to ensure safety by proactively identifying hazards that could be derived from changes in mission form and environment as the advanced aircraft such as F-35A stealth fighter, KC-330 Multi-role transport and tanker, RQ-4B high altitude unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, etc are introduced that the Republic of Korea Air Force(ROKAF) has never been operated so far. To this end, the safety management methods based on proactive and predictive approaches used in advanced countries(US Air Force, UK Royal Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force) operating aircraft types same or similar things being newly powered by the ROKAF were reviewed. In addition, the direction for improvement of the safety management methods operating in the ROKAF and the measures necessary for establishment of the new safety management techniques to be applied were suggested.
To overcome the limitation of ground inspection for Navigational Aid, Korea Airport Corporation (KAC) developed a drone system for Navigational Aid inspection. This drone system has the advantage that they can inspect the air radio signal at the perspective of user (aircraft). Since drones have more free flight paths and easier control of flight speeds compared to aircrafts, drones can check sections of suspected airborne radio wave distortions at desired paths and speeds. Recently, with the acceleration of the development around the airport, there is a concern about the deterioration of the quality of radio signal of Navigational Aid. In order to analyze radio distortion of Navigational Aid, a radio wave environmental survey was conducted using drones. When the signal received by each flight path of the drone was measured, the origin of the reflected wave was identified by analyzing the section in which the radio signal was distorted.
