FBG sensors are capable of measuring the strain of structures easily and more durably than electric resistance gauges. Thus, many researches are dedicated to the application for the response monitoring or non-destructive evaluation of structures using FBG sensors. Additionally, the measured strains at the top and bottom of a cross-section can be transformed into the curvature of the section, which can be used to calculate its vertical displacement. Hence, this study aims to measure the dynamic strain signals of a steel section simply supported beam and to estimate the dynamic displacement from the strain signals, after which the estimated displacement is com pared with the measured displacement. The dynamic characteristics (natural frequency, damping ratio and mode shape) of the beam are predicted from both the estimated and measured displacement signals, and from the strain time history of the FBG sensors. The predicted properties are compared with those of an analytical model of the beam. The estimated displacement. However, the predicted dynamic properties from both the estimated displacements and the measured strains are well-correlated with those from the measured displacement. It is therefore appreciated that the estimation of the dynamic properties of FBG sensor signals is reasonable. Especially, the strain signal of the FBG sensor was amplified at a higher-frequency region in comparison with the displacement estimation with higher-mode properties.

The strength of concrete is one of the most important parameters in evaluating the properties of concrete. Compressive strength of concrete has been widely used because of its convenience of experiments and generality. Compressive strength of concrete varies according to materials and curing conditions. Even with the same materials, the strength varies according to the curing conditions. Therefore, if we want to know the strength of concrete from the construction field, we have to put it in exactly the same curing condition with the construction field. But it is impossible to make the exactly same curing conditions in the laboratory. Also damages occur in order to measure the strength of concrete, because the core hat to be made into the pavement. To overcome these limits, many studies of nondestructive method have already been researched. It was already proven that shear wave velocity was very closely related to the compressive strength. In this study, three different curing temperatures with the same mixture paste were used, and compressive strength and shear wave velocity, according to the aging were measured. The relationship between these two parameters was examined. As results, curing temperature affected the compressive strength and the shear wave velocity, but did not affect the relation between them.
For the assessment of exsiting concrete structures, it is important to get the real strength of concrete. The load test or core test has many problems due to cost time, easiness, structural damage, and reliability and so on. Thus, various non-destructive test and statistical analysis techniques for strength assessment have been developed. As a result the real strength of concrete can be obtained by both direct and indirect test. In this study, a series of experimental tests of core strength and Schmidt hammer tests on 3, 7, 14, 28, 90, 180, 365, and 730 days' were done for predicting the compressive strength of high strength concrete with 65.0MPa of 28-days' strength. Each experimental results was analyzed by simple regression analysis. Then, reliability level and error rate between the proposed equations and the existing ones was examined. However, the application of the exsisting equations was inadequate to high strength concrete, because they were conducted under normal strength concrete. Therefore, the following compressive strength equations were proposed for predicting the compressive strength of high strength concrete by Schmidt hammer test. The proposed equations by Schmidt hammer test are as follows.
Purpose: Cavity growth process monitoring is to periodically monitor changes in common size and topography for general and observational grades to predict the rate of common growth. The purpose of this study is to establish a systematic cavity management plan by evaluating the general and observational class community in a non-destructive method. Method: Using GPR exploration equipment, the acquired surface image and the surrounding status image are analyzed in the GPR probe radargram in depth, profile, and cross section of the location. The exact location is selected using the distance and surrounding markings shown on the road surface of the initial detection cavity, and the test cavity is analyzed by calling the radar at the corresponding location. Result: As a result of monitoring tests conducted at a cavity 30 sites of general and observation grade, nine sites have been recovered. Changes in scale were seen in 21 cavity locations, and changes in size and grade occurred in 13 locations. Conclusion: The under road cavity is caused by various causes such as damage to the burial site, poor construction, soil leakage caused by groundwater leakage, waste and ground vibration. Among them, indirect factors could infer the effects of groundwater and localized rainfall.

This paper proposes an approach to predict the reliability of high temperature heaters by identifying their primary failure modes and mechanisms in the field. Test specimens were designed to have the equivalent stress conditions with the high temperature heaters in the field in order to examine the effect of stress conditions on the solder joint failures. There failures often result from cracking due to intermetallic compound (IMC) or void formation within a solder joint. Aging tests have been performed by exposing the test specimens to a temperature of $170^{\circ}C$ in order to reproduce solder joint failures in the field. During the test, changes in IMC formation were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) on the cross-sections of the test specimens, while changes in void formation were monitored both by resistance spectroscopy and by micro-computed tomography (microCT), alternately. The test results demonstrated the void volume within the solder increased as the time at the high temperature increased. Also, the phase shift of high frequency resistance was found to have high correlation with the void volume. These results implied the failure of high temperature heaters can be non-destructively predicted based on the correlation.
Thermal power generation accounts for the highest percentage of domestic power generation, among which coal-fired boiler generation accounts for the highest percentage. Coal boilers generate harmful substances and fine dust during coal combustion and have a serious effect on air pollution. So, fluidized-bed boilers have been introduced as eco-friendly coal boilers. It uses a fluid medium which affect the combustion temperature of coal. Because of it fluidized-bed boilers emit less pollutants than original one. Water-wall tubes play an important role in this fluidized bed boiler. Due to the fluid medium, the wall damage is more severe than the existing boiler. However, there is no quantitative maintenance technique in Korea yet. Remote field eddy current testing is a non-destructive evaluation technique that is often used for inspection of inner and outer wall of tube. it can inspect with non-contact and high speed. However, it is an inspection that proceeds from inside the pipe, and the water-wall tube is not able to enter the interior. In this study, we designed and simulated an external remote field eddy current sensor suitable for water-wall tube of a fluidized - bed boiler using simulations. By obtaining a signal similar to the existing remote field eddy current test, the criteria for the external remote field eddy current sensor design can be presented.
Non-Destruction Test (NDT) is a method to check internal defects without destroying the product. Among them, radiographic testing (RT) uses high-energy radiation, so it is very important to prevent radiation exposure of workers. Therefore, in this study, in this study, a radiation sensor structure that improves radiation detection performance compared to the existing PbI2 and can immediately detect accidents in RT was presented. For evaluation, the conversion efficiency was analyzed in the gamma ray source through FLUKA simulation. PbI2 with overlapping Gd2O2S:Tb presented in this study showed a higher radiation sensitivity from 1.22 to 3.22 times than that of non-overlapping PbI2. This indicates that the presented sensor is suitable for use as a radiation sensor for source detection in RT.

The National Museum of Korea Conservation science division conducted a precise diagnosis and a non-destructive investigation to comprehensively assess the overall damage of the Twin-lion stone lantern from the Godalsa Temple site, Yeoju to be placed on display in the museum's outdoor stone garden, then reviewed the relevant conservation and management plan and applied conservation treatment to the artifact. The museum carried out the treatment in the following order: precise diagnosis; dismantling of the previously-restored part of the roof stone; reinforcement and restoration of the roof structure with new stone; restoration of the previously-restored part of the lantern's support stone (jungseok); surface texture treatment to the restored area; cleaning (basic, laser); and color matching. The previously-restored part of the roof stone was removed and restored with new stone material, based on the results of a safety diagnosis regarding the separation at the said part. Granite from the Sangju area was selected as the material for the restoration in consideration of the results of mineral analysis as well as the surface color and particle size. The new stone was divided into three pieces based on the descending edges of the octagonal roof structure and joined together using epoxy resin. The structure was further strengthened by inserting titanium rods. It is expected that the status diagnosis and conservation treatment of the twin-lion stone lantern from the Godalsa Temple site in Yeoju will be used as a reference for the future conservation and management of outdoor displays of stone cultural heritage.
