  • Measurement of welding residual stresses is one of important tasks to assess the structural integrity of welded structures. For operating components, especially, nondestructive techniques are required. By now, authors have proposed a new residual stress evaluation method, the bead flush method, where residual stresses are calculated from eigenstrain distribution determined by surface removal of reinforcement. In this paper, a brief description of the bead flush method is given and its utility and problem to be overcome are discussed. And also stabilization method of solution set of eigenstrain in inverse analysis is proposed.

  • In boiler high-temperature pipelines such as main steam pipe, header and steam drum in fossil power plants, conventional measurement techniques(replica method, electric resistance method, and hardness test method) for measuring creep damage have such disadvantages as complex preparation and measurement procedures, too many control parameters. And also, these techniques have low practicality and applied only to component surfaces with good accessibility. It needs to apply a reliable and quantitative ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation method that can be replaced for these equipment. In this study, both artificial creep degradation test using life prediction formula and frequency analysis by ultrasonic tests for crept specimens were carried out for the purpose of nondestructive evaluation for creep damage. As a result of ultrasonic tests for crept specimens, we conformed that the high frequency side spectra decrease and central frequency components shift to low frequency band, and also their bandwidth decreases as increasing creep damage in backwall echos.

  • The present study investigates the thermal characteristics of a nanoscale superconductor material. A thin-film of $YBa_2Cu_3O_7-x$ was deposited on a $SrTiO_3$ substrate by using a pulsed-laser deposition technique and characterized using an ultrafast laser system. In order to extract a thermal conductivity value, a numerical solution for a transient one-dimensional heat conduction equation was obtained using a finite-difference method. The curve-fit shows a value 1.2 W/mK, which is relatively lower than those of bulk materials. This research provides a material property of superconductor thin-film required for the thermal design of micro or nanodevices.

  • It is attempted to verify the Quantitative relationship between fracture mechanical parameters (${\Delta}K$, $K_{max}$) and X-ray parameters (residual stress, half-value breadth) of A12009-15v/o $SiC_w$ composite, and normalized SS41 steel. In this study, fatigue crack propagation test were carried out and X-ray diffraction was applied to fatigue fractured surface in order to investigate the change of residual stress and half-value breadth on fatigue fractured surface. And it is loaded prestrain to each tensile specimen, A12009-15v/o $SiC_w$ composite(0.3, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2%) and normalized SS41 steel(0.63, 2.25, 7.50, 13.7, 20%), for investigating plastic strain rate using nondestructive measurement method. X-ray diffraction was applied to the prestrained tensile specimens in order to measure the change of residual stress and half-value breadth.
