  • In this paper, we propose a new method for displaying colored defects by measuring the relative density with the wide-area and local densities of X-ray. The relative density of one pixel represents a relative difference from the surrounding pixels, and we also suggest a colorization of X-ray images representing these pixels as normal and defective. The traditional method mainly inspects materials such as plastics and metals, which have large differences in transmittance to the object. Our proposed method can be used to detect defects such as sprouts or holes in images obtained by an inspection machine that detects X-rays. In the experiment, the products that could not be seen with the naked eye were colored with pests or sprouts in a specific color so that they could be used in the agricultural product selection system. Products that are uniformly filled with a single ingredient inside, such as potatoes, carrots, and apples, can be detected effectively. However, it does not work well with bumpy products, such as peppers and paprika. The advantage of this method is that, unlike machine learning, it doesn't require large amounts of data. The proposed method could be applied to a screening system using X-rays and used not only in agricultural product screening systems but also in manufacturing processes such as processed food and parts manufacturing, so that it can be actively used to select defective products.

  • In this study, iron oxide (FeOx) nanoparticles were synthesized using iron (Fe) by-products recovered from NdFeB permanent magnet scraps, and the effect of heat-treatment temperature on the physical properties of the FeOx nanoparticles was investigated. In order to prepare the FeOx nanoparticles, 2.0 M ammonia (NH4OH) solution was added to an iron by-product solution diluted to c.a. 10 wt% in D.I. water, which led to the precipitation of the iron oxide precursor. Then, the FeOx nanoparticles were synthesized by heat-treatment at 300 ℃, 400 ℃, 500 ℃ and 600 ℃. After that, the physical properties of the FeOx nanoparticles were investigated in order to understand the effect of the heat-treatment temperature. The results of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the diffraction peak in accordance with the <104> direction increased as the heat-treatment increased, and a diffraction peak indicating the α-Fe2O3 crystal structure was detected at heat-treatment temperatures above 500 ℃. The BET specific surface area analysis revealed that the specific surface area decreased as the heat-treatment temperature increased to above 400 ℃. Observation with a high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) showed that rod-shaped nanoparticles were formed, and the size of the nanoparticles showed a tendency to increase as the heat-treatment temperature increased.

  • Petroglyphs is an essential part of the worldwide cultural heritage since it plays a key role for the comprehension of prehistoric communities previous to writing. nowadays 3D data are a critical component to permanently record the form of important cultural heritage so that they might be passed down to future generations. Recent 3D scanning technologies allow the generation of very realistic 3D model that can be used for multimedia museum exhibitions to attract the users into the 3D world. In this paper, we develop the 3D petroglyph VR contents based on a novel gesture recognition method. The proposed gesture recognition method can recognizes the movements of the user using 3D depth sensor by comparing with the pre-defined movements. Also this paper presents new approaches for 3D petroglyphs data recording using 3D scanning technology as accurate and non-destructive tools.

  • With a view to supporting the provisions of the current Korean food code for the detection of Benzo[a]pyrene, various analytical methods of detection in foods were evaluated and established in terms of linearity, limits of detection/quantitation, efficiency, and accuracy, amongst others. It was observed that to improve the technologies involved in the application of these methods, complicated and combined preparation processes of foods, including extraction, separation and purification, have been the main focus of efforts at optimization. Recently, on-site quick reaction for the detection of hazardous substances in the environment and food materials aims at developing simplified examination processes, such as lable-free and non-invasive technological analysis, to reduce the costs and time involved in the examination. Herein, current benzo[a]pyrene detection methods are reviewed in addition to new Raman spectroscopy-based trials established to pursue improve the speed, simplicity and suitability of testing.

  • Friction welding has emerged as a reliable process for high-production commercial application with significant economic and technical advantages. But nondestructive test in friction weld was not clearly developed. Therefore the experimental verification is necessary in order to understand the characteristics of the pulse echo effects according to various change in welding conditions. This paper presents a new attempt to detect the bond strength of friction welds by ultrasonic. Instead of looking for a flaw or cracks at the interface, the new approach evaluates the coefficient by reflection which provides a single quantitative indicator involving the acoustic energy reflected at the interface. The objective of this study is to find the relationship between the reflection coefficients and the weld strength. Results of the bar-to-bar friction welding of aluminum to copper and stainless steel and such relationship investigation are presented and interpreted.

  • Non-destructive inspection using X-rays is used as a method to check the inside of products. In order to accurately inspect, a X-ray image requires a higher spatial resolution. However, the reduction in pixel size of the X-ray detector, which determines the spatial resolution, is time-consuming and expensive. In this regard, a DMM has been proposed to obtain an improved spatial resolution using the same X-ray detector. However, this has a limitation that the motion blur phenomenon, which is a decrease in spatial resolution. In this paper, motion blur was removed by applying Non-Blind Deconvolution to the DMM image, and the increase in spatial resolution was confirmed. DMM and Non-Blind Deconvolution were sequentially applied to X-ray images, confirming 62 % MTF value by an additional 29 % over 33 % of DMM only. In addition, SSIM and PSNR were compared to confirm the similarity to the 1/2 pixel detector image through 0.68 and 33.21 dB, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to set the Korean mandarine quality standards based on consumer preference survey. Until now the Korean mandarine's quality standards has been based on the fruit size. The Korean mandarine's quality in agricultural cooperative, citrus agricultural cooperative federation, and some agricultural corporation has been selected in accordance with its own brand of quality grade using a non-destruction sorting machine. But, setting the Korean mandarine's quality standards has been based on the convenient and routine method rather than the scientific and objective method, consumer's preference. According to the grade contents, the highest grade brand was required more than sugar $12^{\circ}Bx$ and less than acid 1.0% and the following grade brand was required more than sugar $11^{\circ}Bx$ and less than acid 1.0% uniformally. Thus, in this study, based on the consumers' preference of Korean mandarine, 4-level grades of sugar and 4-level grades of acidity were divided into the total 16-level grades. Based on them, 5-level grades were set.

  • The method of etching tracks in PN-3 dosimeter has been applied to tracks of recoil protons from a neutron source. Both the etch and the detection response of PN-3 has been studied as a function of etched-track diameters against various parameters. We could obtain very useful informations about charge, energy, and mass of particles and the relationship between the track etching rate and the track forming procedure in order to analyze the particle recorded in the solid state track detector. The best etching condition could be found by means of changing the etching circumstances for various energies and particles in order to detect the charged particle accurately. It could be influenced widely that the polymer plastic detector could develep the detecting technique for the low energy level neutron and could be used as a neutron dosimeter in the radiation field such as the nuclear power station, the medical institute and the nondtructive testing institute.

  • Current discriminating technique of rice variety is known to be not objective till this time because of depending on naked eye of well trained inspector. DNA finger print method based on genetic character of rice has been indicated inappropriate for on-site application, because the method need much labor and skilled expert. The purpose of this study was to develops the identification technique of polished rice varieties using CCD camera images. To minimize the noise of the captured image, thresholding and median filtering were carried out, and edge was extracted from the image data. Image data after pretreatment of normalize and FFT(fast fourier transform) were used for library model and feedforward backpropagation neural network model. Image processing technique using CCD camera could discriminate the variety of rice with high accuracy in case of quite different rice of shape, but the accuracy was reached at 85% in the similar shape of rice.
