  • The integrity of components and piping of operating nuclear power plants has been identified by in-service inspection(ISI) requirements and activities commensurate with standards and codes such as KEPIC MI or ASME Code Section XI. However, the other various degradation mechanisms not considered during design stage of nuclear power plants have been checked by enhanced ISI. The requirements of enhanced ISI have been voluntarily developed by the industry itself or strickly issued by regulatory body. Even though the requirements were developed by the industry, they should be reviewed by regulatory body for their application in nuclear power plants. The enhanced ISI activities and requirements of non-destructive examination(NDE) which reflect the degradation issues in nuclear power industry will be primarily discussed in this paper.

  • 원자력발전소의 주요 기기들에 대한 가동중검사는 관련법규에 따라 철저히 수행되고 있다. 그러나 최근 선진국에서는 이에 만족하지 않고 원전 기기의 안전성을 더욱 확고히 하기 위해 기존의 가동중검사 요건을 계속 강화하고 있으며, 원전 관련 당사자들은 강화된 요건들을 충족시키기 위한 노력을 끊임없이 계속하고 있다. 이 글에서는 원전 기기 가동중검사 신규 요건들인 초음파탐상검사 시스템의 기량검증(Performance Demonstration) 요건, 비파괴검사자 및 초음파검사자 자격 인정 요건(ANSI/ASNT CP-189, Appendix VII of ASME Sec. XI), 증기발생기 전열관 와전류검사, 신호평가자 자격인정(Qualified Data Analyst : QDA), 미국규제기관(NRC)에서 발행하고 있는 NRC Bulletin, NRC information 등의 가동중검사 관련 사항들을 살펴보고 선진 외국에서는 이들 요건 및 정보에 대해 어떻게 대처하고 있는가를 알아본다. 또한 국내에서도 이들 신규 요건에 대한 대처 현황과 대처 방안을 모색한다.

Ultrasonic Inspection Technology of Defect Detection of Propellant/Liner Debond & Propellant Microcrack (초음파를 이용한 추진제/라이너 미접착 및 추진제 미세 크랙의 결함 검출 기법)

  • Ultrasonic inspection method is more profitable than X-ray radiographic inspection in cost and effect of defect detection such as debond, damage, and it doesn't need special constructions. The method can also be a possible real time inspection with safety. This report explains 1)the experiment and analysis of ultrasonic property of solid propellant, 2)the inspection methods of propellant/liner debond by inside or outside inspection, and 3)the inspection methods of propellant microcrack by damage. From the results, it is possible to detect the defect of propellant/liner debond by inside or outside inspection. Futhermore, it can be possible to detect the propellant microcrack caused by damage using the ultrasonic attenuation.

The Optimization of NDT Method for Real Time X-ray Imaging (X선 실시간 영상장치를 이용한 비파괴시험 조건 최적화 연구)

  • This study has investigated the optimization of NDT method and the minimum detectable defect size for complex structures such as the solid propellant rocket motor using real time X-ray imaging system. Test specimens were made of steel plates with various defect size, and installed with proper thickness for which solid propellant, rubber, and case converted to the steel equivalent thickness according to the radiographic equivalent theory. As the results, this examination obtained optimum magnification and X-ray energy, dose rate according to steel equivalent thickness, also, obtained the relationship between minimum detectable defect size and the ratio(defect depot/object thickness). Thus, this simulated test is the preliminary procedure before performing NDT for real objects, and is possibly applied for NDT of other complex structures.

A Study on the Gamma Scanning Test Used for Nondestructive Test Radiation Shielding Material (방사선 차폐체의 감마스케닝검사법에 대한 고찰)

  • As nuclear industry in Korea is being expended, the number of user for radioisotope and radiation generators has being remarkably increased. As a result, radiation shielding problem for radiation safety has rasied as a question of great interest nowaday. In this report, gamma scanning test (GST), one of the nondestructive test methods of radiation shielding material was introduced and the review of the test method and its application were described. In addition for accurate evaluation of the test result, necessary basic equipments for the test and for improvement of the equipment were suggested. If the effective test method described above were widely and properly applied by GST related companies, the technology would be used effectively, as one of the safe nondestructive test for radiation shielding material in future.
