This study analyzes how workers become impoverished and have their jobs less stabilized after they suffer from non-job-related sickness. Given that South Korea lacks sickness benefits, which most of OECD member states legislate and implement except US and Switzerland, this study examines its impact on laborers' job stability and povertization in Korea. The researchers have conducted in-depth interviews with nine former or present laborers who have the experiences and four experts on the issue in July-September, 2017 for the qualitative analysis. It is found that laborers, after becoming aware of their sickness, at first endure their pain without informing their employers not to lose their jobs. The attititude is observed especially among non-standard laborers, because sickness more often leads to job loss for them than for standard laborers. After workers have to leave their jobs due to their sickness in the end, they have no choice but to keep working in less stable jobs to compensate for income losses. They become gradually impoverished with their social capital like family bond declining. We observe laborers who are eligible for industrial accident insurance compensation could not benefit from the system because some employers refrain from the legal reporting duty. Due to this illegal practices, some industrial accident victims unduly lose their jobs due to "non-job-related sickness". Second, some employers report to the authority that their sick laborers have left their jobs 'voluntarily' even when they have quitted it without their volition, in which case the newly unemployed are not eligible for unemployment benefits. Large holes in Korea's safety nets for those suffering from multiple risks of sickness and unemployment.

Lipreading is one of the important parts of speech recognition, and several studies have been conducted to improve the performance of lipreading in lipreading systems for speech recognition. Recent studies have used method to modify the model architecture of lipreading system to improve recognition performance. Unlike previous research that improve recognition performance by modifying model architecture, we aim to improve recognition performance without any change in model architecture. In order to improve the recognition performance without modifying the model architecture, we refer to the cues used in human lipreading and set other regions such as chin and cheeks as regions of interest along with the lip region, which is the existing region of interest of lipreading systems, and compare the recognition rate of each region of interest to propose the highest performing region of interest In addition, assuming that the difference in normalization results caused by the difference in interpolation method during the process of normalizing the size of the region of interest affects the recognition performance, we interpolate the same region of interest using nearest neighbor interpolation, bilinear interpolation, and bicubic interpolation, and compare the recognition rate of each interpolation method to propose the best performing interpolation method. Each region of interest was detected by training an object detection neural network, and dynamic time warping templates were generated by normalizing each region of interest, extracting and combining features, and mapping the dimensionality reduction of the combined features into a low-dimensional space. The recognition rate was evaluated by comparing the distance between the generated dynamic time warping templates and the data mapped to the low-dimensional space. In the comparison of regions of interest, the result of the region of interest containing only the lip region showed an average recognition rate of 97.36%, which is 3.44% higher than the average recognition rate of 93.92% in the previous study, and in the comparison of interpolation methods, the bilinear interpolation method performed 97.36%, which is 14.65% higher than the nearest neighbor interpolation method and 5.55% higher than the bicubic interpolation method. The code used in this study can be found a https://github.com/haraisi2/Lipreading-Systems.
This paper presents a ground surface settlement prediction method for shield tunneling in cohesive soils. In order to develop the method, a parametric study on shield tunneling was performed by using a threetimensional elasto-plastic finite element analysis, which can simulate the construction procedure. By using the results of the finite element analysis, the ground movement mechanism was investigated and a base which relates the ground surface settlement and iuluencing factors was formed. The data base was then used to formulate semi -empirical equations for both surface settlement ratio above tunnel face and imflection point by means of a regression analysis. Furthermore, a prediction method for transverse and longitudinal surface settlement profiles was suggested by using the leveloped equations in conjunction with the normal probability curve. Effectiveness of the developed method was illustrated by comparing settlement profiles obtained by using the developed method with the results of finite element analysis and measured data. Based on the comparison, it was concluded that the developed method can be effectively rosed for practical applications at least within the conditions investigated.
We consider sample-size determination problem motivated by comparative clinical trials where patient outcomes are characterized by a bivariate outcome of efficacy and safety. Thall and Cheng (1999) presented a sample size methodology for the case of bivariate binary outcomes. We propose a bivariate Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney(WMW) statistics for sample-size determination for binary outcomes, and this nonparametric method can be equally used to determine sample sizes of ordinal outcomes. The two methods of sample size determination rely on the same testing strategy for the target parameters but differs in the test statistics, an asymptotic bivariate normal statistic of the transformed proportions in Thall and Cheng (1999) and nonparametric bivariate WMW statistic in the other method. Sample sizes are calculated for the two experimental oncology trials, described in Thall and Cheng (1999), and for the first trial example the sample sizes of a bivariate WMW statistic are smaller than those of Thall and Cheng (1999), while for the second trial example the reverse is true.

A face detection plays an important role in face recognition, video surveillance, and human computer interaction. In this paper, we propose a progressive threshold method to detect human faces in real time. The consecutive face images are acquired from camera and transformed into YCbCr color space images. The skin color of the input images are separated using a skin color filter in the YCbCr color space and some candidated face areas are decided by connected component analysis. The intensity equalization is performed to avoid the effect of many circumstances and an arbitrary threshold value is applied to get binary images. The eye area can be detected because the area is clearly distinguished from others in the binary image progressive threshold method searches for an optimal eye area by progressively increasing threshold from low values. After progressive thresholding, the eye area is normalized and verified by back propagation algorithm to finalize the face detection.
In a MPC coding using excitation source of voiced and unvoiced, it would be a distortion of speech waveform. This is caused by normalization of synthesis speech waveform of voiced in the process of restoration the multi-pulses of representation section. To solve this problem, this paper present a method of position compensation(PC-MPC) in a multi-pulses each pitch interval in order to reduce distortion of speech waveform. I was confirmed that the method can be synthesized close to the original speech waveform. And I evaluate the MPC and PC-MPC using multi-pulses position compensation method. As a result, $SNR_{seg}$ of PC-MPC was improved 0.4dB for female voice and 0.5dB for male voice respectively. Compared to the MPC, $SNR_{seg}$ of PC-MPC has been improved that I was able to control the distortion of the speech waveform finally. And so, I expect to be able to this method for cellular phone and smart phone using excitation source of low bit rate.
With the development of industry, product data management system is becoming more and more important. An expanded view of product definition function that include a bill of material and routing database, current and historical engineering data and specifications and engineering changes order history. PDM (Product Data Management) systems hold and manage such material as product specifications, plans, geometric models, CAD drawings and images. Furthermore, PDM enables companies producing complex products to spread product data in to the entire launch process. Especially, PDTnet XML Schema is an international standard for exchanging of PDM data. But PDTnet XML Schema differs from existing XML Schema in the way that its property of IDREF/IDREFS is irregular. Therefore it is important factor that. what do we use storage devices and storage techniques. We developed storage techniques and application supporting various query types and preserving PDTnet XML Schema using a relational database that guaranteeing the performance nowadays. In this paper, we will show that our storage techniques minimize repeated data and optimize query processing by using application comparison with storage techniques of existing XML Schema data.
The KOMPSAT-3A satellite acquires high-resolution MWIR images twice a day compared to conventional Earth observing satellites. New radiometric information of Earth's surface can be provided due to different characteristics from existing SWIR images or TIR images. In this study, the difference image of multitemporal images was generated and compared with existing infrared images to find the characteristics of KOMPSAT-3A MWIR satellite images. A co-registration was performed and the difference between pixel values was minimized by using PIFs (Pseudo Invariant Features) pixel-based relative normalization. The experiment using Sentinel-2 SWIR image, Landsat 8 TIR image, and KOMPSAT-3A MWIR image showed that the distinction between artifacts in the difference image of KOMPSAT-3A is prominent. It is believed that the utilization of KOMPSAT-3A MWIR images can be improved by using the characteristics of IR image.

Consolidation of dredged fill has become important task for site treatment. The variation of stratum thickness during consolidation processing needs to be taken into consideration since hydraulic fill would go through a much larger scale strain than land soil when it is subject to a load. In this study, the consolidation period considering the variation of stratum thickness was analyzed and compared the results with those of existing consolidation studies which did not consider the variation of stratum thickness. According to the results of the study, the consolidation period of the ground with a larger strain was calculated more close to observed value in case of Mikasa theory which takes the variation of stratum thickness into consideration.
Various optimization techniques are deployed in the compilation process of a source program for improving the program's execution speed and reducing the size of the source code. Of the optimization pattern matching techniques, the string pattern matching technique involves finding an optimal pattern that corresponds to the intermediate code. However, it is deemed inefficient due to excessive time required for optimized pattern search. The tree matching pattern technique can result in many redundant comparisons for pattern determination, and there is also the disadvantage of high cost involved in constructing a code tree. The objective of this paper is to propose a table-driven code optimizer using the DFA(Deterministic Finite Automata) optimization table to overcome the shortcomings of existing optimization techniques. Unlike other techniques, this is an efficient method of implementing an optimizer that is constructed with the deterministic automata, which determines the final pattern, refuting the pattern selection cost and expediting the pattern search process.
