Ultrasonographic Examination of Compression Neuropathy in the Upper Extremity (상지의 압박성 신경병증의 초음파 검사)

  • Compression neuropathy around elbow and wrist are one of the common disturbing problems in the upper extremity. The understanding of normal nerve architectures and pathophysiologic changes in compression neuropathy is important to interpret the ultrasonographic images correctly. Compression neuropathies have characteristic ultrasonographic imaging features of flattened nerve at compression and hypoechoic swollen nerve with loss of fascicular patterns at proximal segments. Dynamic ultrasonographic imagings on motion can show dymanic subluxation of ulnar nerve and medial head of triceps muscle over the medial epicondyle in snapping triceps syndrome. Dynamic compression of median nerve also can be visualized in pronator teres syndrome by dynamic imaging studies. A quantitative measures of cross sectional area or compression ratio can be helpful to diagnose compression neuropathies, such as carpal tunnel syndrome or cubital tunnel syndrome. With the clinical features and electeophysiologic studies, the untrasonographic imagings are useful tool for evaluation of the compression neuropathies in the upper extremities.

Design of the reinforced concrete lining in bakun diversion tunnels (말레이지아 바쿤 가배수로 터널의 철근콘크리트 라이닝 설계)

  • The completion of the Bakun Diversion Tunnel is subsequently to the Main Dam construction. Therefore, the completion date is very important for the Bakun Hydroelectric Project. Generally, the tunnel lining work as a finishing phase of the tunnelling project occupies a important portion as well as an excavation and a support work of the tunnels in respect to the construction cost and period. Internal section of Bakun Diversion Tunnel is designed circular shape to reduce the roughness of the water flow with 12 meters in diameter of total length 4314.6 meters of 3 tunnels. The lining thickness is varied between 500 mm and 700 mm depending on the structural condition. From the original Tender design of the Bakun tunnels, the required quantity of steel bars was 5,985 ton designed by Reinforced Concrete (RC) through the entire tunnel linings. During the detail design stage by the consideration of the rock conditions and various load conditions, we could suggest five kinds of RC lining type including plain concrete lining type. Through the detail design modification, we could reduce the required amount of steel bars to 2,178 ton, as a half of original Bill of Quantity. Finally, this design modification give us the time and cost saving effect to catch up the construction progress in time.

Ultrastructure of the Fertilized Egg Envelope from Dark Sleeper, Eleotrididae, Teleost (경골어류 구굴무치과 얼룩동사리의 수정란 난막 미세구조)

  • The ultrastructure of the fertilized egg envelope from dark sleeper, Odontobutis obscurus interrupta belong to Eleotrididae was studied using scanning and transmission electron microscopes. The fertilized egg of dark sleeper was of transparent, ellipsoidal, adhesive and demersal type, and there were numerous oil droplets in the yolk sac and adhesive filaments in the area of the animal pole. The outer surface of egg envelope was smooth with pore canal. The fertilized egg envelope consisted of two layers, an outer nonadhesive layer and an inner layer, consisting of seven horizontal low electron-dense lamellae alternating with the middle electron dense interlamellae. These ultrastructural characters of fertilized egg envelope from dark sleeper can be utilized in taxonomy of teleost.

A study on the heat transfer characteristics of swirling flow in a circular sectioned $180^{\circ}C$bend with uniform heat flux (균일 열플럭스가 있는 $180^{\circ}C$ 원형단면 곡관의 선회유동 열전달특성 연구)

  • An experiment was performed to local heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number in the circular duct of 180.deg. bend for Re=6*10$^{4}$, 8*10$^{4}$ and 1*10$^{5}$ at swirling flow and non-swirling flow conditions. The test tube with circular section was made by stainless which has curvature ratio 9.4. The wall of test tube was heated directly by electrical power to 3.51 kw and swirling motion of air was produced by a tangential inlet to the pipe axis at the 180 degree. Measurements of local wall temperatures and bulk mean temperature of air are made at four circumferential positions in the 16 stations. The wall temperatures show particularly reduced distribution curve at bend for non-swirling flow but this effect does not appear for swirling flow. Nusselt number distributions for swirling flow which was calculated from the measured wall and bulk temperatures were higher than that of non-swirling flow. Average Nusselt number of swirling flow increased about 90 ~ 100% than that of non-swirling flow whole through the test tube. The Nu/N $u_{DB}$ values at the station of 90.deg. for non-swirling flow and swirling flow are respectively about 2.5 and 4.8 at Re=6*10$^{4}$. Also that is good agreement with Said's result for non-swirling flow. flow.

An Ultrastructural Study of Sertoli Cells in Human Fetal Testes (태아 고환에서 버팀세포의 미세형태학적 연구)

  • Sertoli cells in the normal adult testis are nondividing cells, which are relatively inconspicuous on cross section of the seminiferous tubule and comprise about 10% to 15% of the tubular cellular elements. Ultrastructurally, Sertoli cells have characteristic nucleoli, plasma membrane, and cytoplasmic components. The plasma membrane has two types of intercellular junctions which are developed at puberty: junctions between adjacent Sertoli cells and Sertoli cell-germ ceil junction. However, the ultrastructural findings of Sertoli cells in human fetus is not fully elucidate yet. In the present study, human fetal testes ($14\sim27$ weeks) obtained from artificially induced abortions legally without gross malformation were studied using transmission electron microscopy to make clear the differentiation process of Sertoli cells in human. In human fetal testes from 14 weeks to 27 weeks, the cell junctions of Sertoli-germ cells and Sertoli-Sertoli cells are desmosome like structure and not tight junction or desmosome. The Overall intracytoplasmic organelles of Sertoli cells are relatively sparse. The mitochondrias are relatively abundant but no developed cristae. And the rough endoplasmic reticuli are abundant and smooth endoplasmic reticuli are sparse. The amount of lipid droplets are regularly observed in human fetal Sertoli cells. No microfilaments or Charcot-Bottcher's crystalloids are present. From the results, Sertoli cells in human fetal testes are somewhat different ultrastructural findings with puberty or adult. However, to make clear the differentiation process of Sertoli cells in human, further study for 28 weeks to puberty is required.

Safety of Ductility Demand Based Seismic Design for Circular RC Bridge Columns (원형 철근콘크리트 교각에 대한 연성도 내진설계법의 안전성)

  • Seismic design for bridge columns of the current Korea Highway Bridge Design Specifications which adopt full ductility design concept results in reinforcement congestion problems in construction site. It is due to large amount of confining steel is required even for small ductility demand which is a normal case in low and moderate seismicity regions like Korean peninsular. Therefore a new seismic design method based on limited ductility concept was proposed, which is called ductility demand based design method. It uses the new confining steel design equation considering ductility demand and aspect ratio of the column as well as material strength. The purpose of this study is to verify safety of the ductility demand based design method by the confining steel design equation. Eighty nine circular column test results are selected and investigated in terms of ductility factor and its safety. The safety factor for the circular column test results ranges between 1.11 and 3.98, and the average is 1.90. In this paper, the basic concept and detailed design procedure of the ductility demand based design method are also introduced as well as the investigation of the safety with respect to the major variables in confining steel design.

An Experimental Study on Flexural Behavior of Steel Fiber Reinforced Ultra High Performance Concrete Prestressed Girders (강섬유 보강 초고성능 콘크리트 프리스트레스트 거더의 휨거동 실험 연구)

  • This paper examines the flexural behavior of full-scale prestressed concrete girders that were constructed of steel fiber reinforced ultra high performance concrete (UHPC). This study is designed to provide more information about the bending characteristics of UHPC girders in order to establish a reasonable prediction model for flexural resistance and deflection for future structural design codes. Short steel fibers have been introduced into prestressed concrete T-girders in order to study their effects under flexural loads. Round straight high strength steel fibers were used at volume fraction of 2%. The girders were cast using 150~190 MPa steel fiber reinforced UHPC and were designed to assess the ability of steel fiber reinforced UHPC to carry flexural loads in prestressed girders. The experimental results show that steel fiber reinforced UHPC enhances the cracking behavior and ductility of beams. Moreover, when ultimate failure did occur, the failure of girders composed of steel fiber reinforced UHPC was observed to be precipitated by the pullout of steel fibers that were bridging tension cracks in the concrete. Flexural failure of girders occurred when the UHPC at a particular cross section began to lose tensile capacity due to steel fiber pullout. In addition, it was determined that the level of prestressing force influenced the ultimate load capacity.

  • 하천에서는 나라마다 하천마다 구간마다 독특한 하도특성을 지니고 있다. 우리나라는 전 국토의 70 %가 산지로 이루어져 있으며, 이로 인하여 특이한 하도형태의 모습을 보이는 구간이 산재하고 있다. 그 대표적인 모습이 충적하도와 침식하도가 연속해 발생하는 과정에서 나타나는 것이 하천 협착부 구간이다. 이러한 하천협착부 주변지역은 전형적인 수해상습 구간이 되는 경우가 많다. 이러한 상황임에도 불구하고 현재까지 우리 나라에서는 이러한 협착부 구간에서 하도특성을 반영한 연구 및 설계 사례가 전무한 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 낙동강 선산지역의 하천 협착부에서의 하도 수리학적 의미와 하도형태에 대하여 조사하고 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 모래하천인 조사구간의 저수로 하상에서 아주 미세한 유사분급 현상은 확인할 수 있었지만, 명쾌한 자연 영력에 의한 유사분급 현상이라 판단하기에는 어려운 부분이 있었다. 이는 완만한 하상경사, 균일성에 가까운 하상재료의 공급에 기인한다고 추정할 수 있었다. 그러나 이와 같은 자연적인 현상보다는 골재채취 등의 원인에 따른 유사분급이 확연하다고 추정되었다. 그리고 협착부의 배수구역에서 과거 활발했던 이동상 단단면 하도형태가 유심부의 이동과 더불어 최근 급격하게 복단면화가 진행되고 있음을 확인하였다. 이와 더불어 저수로의 하폭이 크게 줄어드는 현상을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 현상은 궁극적으로 이상홍수 발생시의 복단면 가중 또는 홍수단면적 축소, 저수로에서의 호안 또는 제방 아래부분의 국소세굴이 야기될 수 있음을 시사한다.원주교각에 대한 국부세굴 특성을 검토하였다. 또한 원주형의 교각에서는 단일원주보다는 원주군으로 설치되는 경우가 대부분이며 이때 교각의 직경(D)에 대한 교각 사이 간격$(L_d)$의 비$(L_d/D)$에 따른 전면교각에서의 수류변화의 영향이 후면교각에 작용하여 상호 복합적인 흐름 및 세굴특성을 나타내므로 이와 같은 복렬형 원주군의 세굴특성을 파상형 원주교각에 적용하여 국부세굴의 크기 변화를 해석하였다. 따라서, 교각주위에서의 수류특성 및 세굴의 변동은 원주군 및 교각파상의 크기와 간격 등과 같은 구조물의 배열조건과 Froude 수, 수심 등의 수리학적 조건에 따라 달라지므로 이의 조건을 체계적으로 변화시켜 가면서 교각주위에서의 국부세굴 및 세굴 감소특성을 검토하였다. 실험결과 오목 및 볼록 파상형 원주 주위에서의 세굴크기는 원형원주와 비교하여 전체적으로 감소하는 것으로 확인되었으며 특히 오목형 $B/\acute{h}=3$에서는 세굴경감효과가 탁월하여 70%이상 감소하는 것으로 확인되었으나 볼록형 $B/\acute{h}=5$에서는 세굴촉진특성이 나타나고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 파상형 원주에서는 하강류나 와류를 파상형의 내부로 유도하여 세굴의 크기를 조절할 수 있는 최적의 파상이 존재하고 있는 것으로 예측되었다.원 분야 소프트웨어의 개발에 기본 토대를 제공할 것으로 판단된다.았다. 또한 저자들의 임상병리학적 연구결과가 다른 문헌에서 보고된 소아 신증후군의 연구결과와 큰 차이

Initial Imperfection and Axial Strength of Struts with Octagonal Hollow Section fabricated from HR Plate (열연강판 팔각강관 버팀보의 초기편심과 축방향 압축강도)

  • Developed in this study were Octagonal-hollow-section(OHS) struts, whose compressive strengths against flexural and local buckling is higher than H-shape or rectangular-hollow-section(RHS) struts with the same unit weight. OHS members are also advantageous in handling and storing compared to circular hollow sections(CHS). OHS members were fabricated from HR Plates by cold forming and fillet welding. 5 numbers of 20m long OHS struts were assembled, each of which consist of two 9.6m long OHS member and two end connection elements made of cast iron. The compressive strength of the OHS strut was evaluated by comparing the test results, design codes and FEM analysis each other. Test results show that all of the struts have almost same or larger compressive strength than Korean Road Bridge Design Code(KRBDC) (2012). The initial imperfections can be estimated by using measured strains and are turned out to be less than L/450 for all the struts tested. The results of FEM analysis show that the variation of initial imperfection has less effects on the compressive strength for struts with vertical surcharge than for those with self-weight only, while the strength decreases as the initial imperfection increases. As the result of this study, the allowable initial imperfection for 20m long OHS struts is recommended to be less than L/350 on job sites.

Study on Bending and Shear Strength Setting of Full-scale Model Additional Walls for Additional Wall Test Bed Combined with PHC-W Pile Retaining Wall (PHC-W말뚝 흙막이와 결합된 지하증설벽체 테스트베드 구축을 위한 실대형 지하증설벽체의 휨강도 및 전단강도 설정 연구)

  • Test bed additional wall combined with PHC-W pile retaining wall has been constructed. To determine the dimensions of test bed additional wall, bending and shear tests of full scale core members of additional wall were tested. Basement additional walls utilizing PHC-W pile retaining wall, which were developed by modifying the cross-section of PHC piles, were classified into the composite additional wall and the non-composite additional wall. Their tests were conducted to obtain bending strength and shear strength of basement additional walls ultilizing PHC-W pile retaining wall. Since bending strengths and shear strengths of the composite additional wall and the non-composite additional wall were similar, it could be confirmed that the non-composite additional wall could be applied instead of the composite additional wall. Full-scale model additional wall was 200 mm thick, thus the thickness of additional wall combined with PHC-W pile retaining wall could be reduced by 100~200 mm.
